With the recent news of Colin Kaepernick asking to be traded, I got excited thinking of Hugh Jackson having the chance to work with him. The question is what would you (as acting GM - err - pro personell person) be willing to give up? I would offer my 32nd pick; or offer to move down to 7 and ask for him in lieu of next year's first round pick. Kaepernick is young (just two years removed from playing in the Super Bowl), big, fast and has a big arm. Add to that Hugh is said to be in love with his talent. This would also give the Browns the chance to grab a playmaker with that 2nd/7th pick and grab a QB in the 3rd or 4th round to develop. I wonder what the analytics are on a trade like this. Hmmm.

i dunno wh yall the love for kaepernick.
but, he'd still be the best QB to ever step foot in the stadium since 99. that's not saying a lot, though.

Maybe.. but something is up out there with either Kap or the Niners.. not sure which.
A few days ago, a niners spokesperson said he expected Kap to continue to be a niner.. and seemingly out of nowhere, his agent is asking for a trade? Something fishy. If it could be sorted out, then maybe, but if not, Pass.

Maybe Kelly showed his hand and is totally dependent on Kap...making his worth up??? Or that he is going for RG3 making Kap ask for a trade.
I heard Hue Jackson was pursuing Kap for the Raiders? Is there carry over on that? Or has something changed with Kap? jmho

Unless you believe Wentz/Goff is a sure-fire pick, why not make this trade and grab a Cardale Jones, Kevin Hogan or the qb out of Penn State after you fill some needs. He is just now the age of Brandon Weeden when he entered the league, but has five years experience and a SB appearance.

Maybe I was dreaming or something. I hadn't heard anything about Jacksone wanting Kap back then, but why would I, I don't follow the Raiders at all.

Don't be so sure Kaepernick would be interested in the Browns...heard this morning on Mike and Mike that Kaepernick has a girl friend in New York and he might want to go somewhere close to her.
Also, the Browns do have a reputation of being a little "unsettled", with coaching and management changes every year or two. Until the Browns overcome that reputation, Cleveland might be a bit of a though sell to some free agents.

SF would have to agree to pay part of his contract, no way would I trade for him under his current agreement. 6/4/2014: Signed a seven-year, $126.97 million contract. The deal contains $61 million guaranteed, although only $13.073 was guaranteed at signing -- a $12,328,766 signing bonus, Kaepernick's 2014 base salary, and a $100,000 first-year workout bonus. Kaepernick's 2015-2017 base salaries are guaranteed only for injury. Kaepernick is eligible for annual $2 million per-game roster bonuses and offseason workout bonuses of $400,000 in years two through seven. 2016: $13.9 million, 2017: $16.5 million, 2018: $17 million, 2019: $18.8 million, 2020: $21 million, 2021: Free Agent There aren't many people not names Kaepernick that think he's worthy of those numbers. http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/6530/colin-kaepernick

It's not whether or not you think those guys are sure-fire picks.. it's whether or not you think they are going to be better than Kaepernick (who is, himself, not a sure-fire QB)... then throw in that Kaepernick is going to cost you 5x as much money over the next 4 or 5 years.

Girlfriend in New York or not, Kaepernick is not a free agent. I highly doubt the 49ers will want to send him where he is requesting to go. The way things have been handled out there, it wouldn't surprise me if they traded him to the Browns out of spite.

With the track record of Kap, you don't invest in that tier of talent considering the contract he has.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Not sure I am interested. Wentz or Goff.

Buy the number one spot. Wentz and Bosa. That is an interesting notion. Can a team buy a draft pick from another team? I don't know, but would be curious to hear everyone's thoughts.

Not for cash, no. The NFL doesn't do that. You can trade other commodities for that, however.... players, draft pics, even coaches.

Book is out on Kaep. He fell from world beater to dead beat in a hurry. Think I've seen enough of these gimmick type QBs. Give us someone cerebral, with an arm that's tall enough to see over his team mates and hates to lose. No idea who that is, but i know who it ain't.

I'd be interested to read Vers's take on Kap.

I'd be interested to read Vers's take on Kap. I am not a big fan of Kap. I have several reasons for that opinion. They are: --His teammates were not fond of him. They complained of him isolating himself from the rest of the team. He reportedly walked around w/his headphones on all the time and did not interact w/his teammates. --Some of his teammates actually asked the 49ers to bench Kap this past year. --I have heard he does not put the time in [study] to make himself better. --He has regressed since his early performance. I think there are two reasons for that. One is that the talent was good then and it isn't now. The other is that his game is limited and defensive coordinators figured out how to stop him. --The guy doesn't read defenses or coverages well. --His off the field stuff is concerning. --He has never picked-up on the nuances of the game. His numbers keep regressing. --He is very expensive. One more note, I think the OP was out of his mind for suggesting the Browns give up that much for Kap. Heck, I really don't think I would sign him [he'll want good money] if he was cut by SF. No way I give up the 32nd pick in the draft or move from 2 to 7 for the bum.

If we determine that we are not drafting a QB, then Kaepernick is likely the best QB on the market. I'd go for him. Kap is just another running QB that excels at the running part, but lacks in the QB skills part..... and as such, those guys' careers have the shelf life of a running back.

*vomits* I wouldn't trade for either unless it was almost no compensation involved. I'm not paying for a QBs salary and giving up picks. Also, I don't think Gabbert is available. I think Chip wants him and Kaepernick to compete for the job.

To choose between Kap and Gabbert?

Riddler, Eotab is really enamored with Wentz and your description of what you want in a quarterback sounded a lot like the arguments that Tab has been making. It was meant as a joke and not a slight to either you or he.
