Can that be right? 10 positions listed and Qb comes in 7th?

Wow,I never knew that the NFL values quarterbacks less than six other positions. If this is true it goes against everyone's theory of the "quarterback being the most important position in football, if not in all of sports." Completely blow away by this.

Just to point it out, he said that he accidentally left out the QB $, and has fixed it.

10.8 million for a safety. That's what we'd be paying to Tashaun if we franchise him.
Sounds like a deal........ Focus on retaining Schwartz and restructuring Mack.
Let's cut Whitner. Save 6 million, and if need be we can start Ibraheim Cambell. Coaches liked him last year, and I always liked Cambell at Northwestern. He was tough and a playmaker.
Whitner was always very overrated to me. I was frustrated we let go of Ward, and whatever benefit we were supposed to get with Donte hasn't been apparent to me.
If we are going to pay 6 million to Whitner and let Tashaun go, why not pay 10 million to Gipson and let Whitner go?

I hate the fact that they lump OTs, OGs & C as one criteria "OL" so much disrespect for the OL positions. At least break it down to Exterior (OTs) and Interior (OGs n C) how hard would that be???

Whit and Ward are very similar players. Whit is a better open field tackler, a little better in coverage, and more of a team leader. Ward is faster, bigger, and is better at blitzing. But really, they are very similar players.

But really, they are very similar players. I disagree, Whitner missed many tackles here and has been shaky in coverage. No better than Ward at either of those things. And Ward is faster, better at blitzing, and better against the run. That might have been the garbage we were sold when Donte came here, and I gave him a fair chance. So far, I've been very unimpressed vs what TJ brought. The only benefit I've seen of him is possible lockerroom presence (which hasn't amounted to much). Donte is going into his 10th year, he was worse this year than last year. I think it's time to cut the dead wood. Cut Donte, franchise tag Tashaun. Let Campbell try to start and maybe bring in a cheaper FA or try out some guys to compete for the job

I think you are both right about Whitner vs Ward
2014 Whitner > Ward 2015 Ward > Whitner
I think Ward is an average at best safety. The move to Whitner was an upgrade immediately but in this past season Whitner had a steep decline in his play. Ward is much younger and his play stayed the same.

jmo Also, people forget that Whitner came into the league at a very young age. He's only 30, but he left OSU at only 21 years old I think. I've always liked Ward, but I've never been impressed with Whitner, just what I've seen. And it's not like I don't like the older guys. I like Dansby a lot. He's the veteran that was absolutely worth bringing to the team. I remember watching Dansby once where someone was on the field (like a fan or a kid) and didn't know what to do or where to go, Dansby went out of his way and helped him along. It was a real genuine thing. I gained a lot of respect for him there. It clearly showed me that he's probably the Captain of the Defense. I don't know if that's the case, but I wouldn't be surprised at all. Anyway, Whitner, I disagree. 2014 - Whitner was closer to Ward's quality than 2015, but I've always been a big fan of the full speed, lay the boom TJ Ward. He plays ferociously, all over the field. Whitner has always been slower, and this year, he clearly lost a step. He was missing tackles all the time, like that one around the 10 yard line (after the RB gained 5 or so yards from the LOS) and then ran right into the endzone. He waited for the RB to come to him, and then was surprised when he was flat footed and out of position when the RB went right by him

Ward always missed too many tackles when he was with us for me to ever get too excited about him.
Whitner definitely lost a step this past year - perhaps 2. I think Whitner is done.

Just wait until we get the Jared Goff returns. Your score is going to go way down (it is weighted for QBs).

Not really.
If the Browns spend the second overall pick on Goff or any other qb for that matter, they will be compelled to give the guy three years MINIMUM.
That means that the Browns will miss out on an impact defensive player at number 2 this year and will pass on QBs that will become available in free agency, trade opportunities, and the draft for the next few years.
Thus, they will find themselves even further behind than they already are...........if that is possible.

I'll stand by what I said and I think I know a little bit about evaluating talent. lol, well that's good that you think you know a little bit about evaluating talent Vers....... but I stand by what I say and I think you're wrong. Donte Whitner sucks. The guy can't cover, he's lost a step athletically, he misses tackles regularly, and he doesn't particularly live up to that Hitner nickname on his Twitter account. I was happy he wanted to come back and turn his hometown team around (but I was unhappy to see Ward go). I gave Whitner a chance, but since he got here in 2014, he never has been better than TJ Ward. I never watched enough of the 49ers to have an opinion about him there. Same with the Buffalo Bills. But I do watch the Browns, and he's been a dud IMO. He was better in 2014 than he was in 2015. But I've never been that impressed. He's been in the league awhile and at 6 million a year, we have no use for him. We are much better off keeping Tashaun Gipson around than keeping Whitner. PS: "I think I know a little bit about evaluating talent" too

Wide receiver is the third highest? These teams clearly don't know how to value positions.

That kinda throws a curve ball into the market.

Glenn plays LT for Buffalo, so it's easier for them to do it. Add Lane Johnson's LT-anticipation contract and the number is huge for Schwartz.
Not sure it's not worth it, though. How much cash would the Browns be willing to pay to get the #33 pick, for example?

He shuts his mouth, works hard and he's had some recent great showings on the field and IMO, dramatic improvements. As stated, there's no questions he's the best on the market now and possibly even before Glenn being tagged. Sashi said it best during his combine presser, and quote: And so it is important for us to keep our own, I think it says something to the locker room when you reward guys that do it the right way and make sure that they understand that being here in Cleveland we want to build through the draft certainly but we also need to retain our guys when we get to free agency.

Hey, he is coachable and improved last year. Put all of our OLine issues to bed. Then you know what to do in FA better and the draft swamp is clearer.
I think it would be wise to address the needs and look harder for upgrades. Shed some losers while you are at it.

Just clicking
Just watched a live interview with Sashi Brown on the Browns network. Should be up on the main site soon I would think.
Anyway, this is the day they have to use a tag and Sashi said none would be used.

I know its not that way always...but I see the possible need for a Franchise or Transition Tag to be a sign of Failure of the front office. Not always but most of the time they had the ability and opportunity to get that player on board knowing how well they are improving signed to a long term 2nd contract....instead they end up playing games and then the last minute after they go to the PRO Bowl or have acclaimed success try to work out a deal...too little too late.
No reason to wait for the end of the rookie contract. If you know this player has been steadily progressing and not at small volumes - Get the kid a new deal - Why to get them to play for minimal salary crap for another season???
