I keep hearing that Trump and Sanders share some "types" of supporters .... which is kind of ironic given that in one major way, tax policy, Sanders and Cruz are actually closer. Both want a much simpler tax policy. I love the idea of a much simpler tax policy, one that eliminates 99% of deductions, which are all so often abused by many personal and business taxpayers.

Cruz has a postcard that goes like this:

How much did you make?
How many personal and family member exemptions do you have? Deduct these exemptions.
Apply the flat tax rate to the difference, and send it in.

Sanders also has a simple tax system, that can fit on a postcard. His tax plan is even simpler, and looks like this:

How much did you make?
Send it is.

No, you really don't. You have shown very little respect and absolutely zero acceptance of opinions that differ from yours. You have essentially said that anybody who doesn't accept Bernie's cradle to grave government coddling just doesn't care about people, doesn't care about his fellow man, etc... So yes, you are plain spoken and passionate about your opinions but you are as closed minded about accepting others opinions as anybody on here.

I find it quite ironic that in one thread there is almost universal agreement that giving a kid 60% for not doing the work is stupid, that passing them along and failing to ever hold them accountable for deadlines and work product is wrong, etc... but in this thread, if you don't believe the government should guarantee your maternity leave, your daycare, your education, your higher education, your healthcare, your retirement, guarantee you a wage, guarantee you benefits, guarantee that banks can't raise rates if you are a risk, etc.. well if you don't believe the government should do all that for you, then you aren't compassionate...

It's funny how many people are on the same page, both D and R, for taxes but Washington just can't/won't do anything about it.

OCD and I after going back and forth about Sanders in another thread came to complete agreement over a tax plan that I proposed:

1. No deductions
2. First 40k of EVERYONE's income is exempt.
3. Anything over 40k is taxed at 15%
4. Taxes for SS and Medicare remain in place with no cap making the tax rate closer to 20%.
5. Capital gains is 20%, pretty much the same as income.

We didn't discuss businesses taxes, but something similar.

capital gains should be somewhere around 12-15, not 20. thats too high, IMO.

we should honestly start weening off of SS. i know it's something we are all entitled too. but the issue is that with the advancement of medicine and technology, people are living longer, healthier lives.

which is amazing, but the unintended consequence is that the SS fund is simply drying up too fast.

I am 1000% for eliminating SS. I loved it when Bush tried, and unfortunately failed, to allow individuals to invest money themselves. In another thread I showed how much I would have in my retirement fund outside of what I already have if I could invest what I am paying to SS currently. It was 750k with a modest 5% return per year for the next 20 years.

That is the problem with Ponzi schemes - the money dries up eventually.

I agree capital gains should be lower, but it is something I'd be willing to compromise on to get income taxes reeled in.

I agree with that. While i understand pensions and such, sometimes with these mandatory pay in's, i wonder if the money just can be used on something that benefits the individual more.

especially since most companies offer a 401k type plan anyway. maybe that money from SS can be used to go into that.

i have investments, but i'm so amateurish that i have no idea about the in's and out's of capital gains and such. i only know what i gotta fill out come tax season.

i do know that some of these transaction fees are ridiculous, and some are only required because the feds are taxing the hell out of people. i think when it comes to individual stuff like that, while we should pay taxes, it shouldn't be that much.

Oh I know you Arch that's the problem.

You should know though before I ever responded to you I read not one but everyone of the posts in this thread so I know who you are, and I know what your about.

The real problem is I do know you and that bothers you.

I stand by what I said.

Now DC we started out having a nice little talk about single payer health insurance and you by your own words called yourself selfish, I concur BTW.

That said you and several others provided a link to Bernie's tax plan for paying for the single payer plan. I went to the link and reviewed the numbers, BTW the numbers work.

I then put up an article showing that we will pay 2.6 Trillion for health care this year and challenged your math since 2.6 x 10 = 26 trillion and Bernie's plan would cost @14 Trillion further I said that we couldn't afford not to go with Bernie's plan. And sadly for your side the numbers bear that out.

I also pointed out that everyone would have full insurance and that if as you expressed you didn't think the government could handle it (paraphrasing) then you needed to explain Medicare.

Then you come at me with this great big whine well dry your tears you just got schooled I'm sure its not your 1st time, you should be used to it. rofl

Just a general question

Our Govt cant run the post office, they cant run the VA, they cant balance a budget unless its way into the negative. Why do we expect that they can run our healthcare?

you have to expect somebody can, seeing as the private sector has failed it's people at just about the same rate.

we've come to a point in this country where we're bouncing between the two hoping somebody will finally get it together.

ACA was a step in the right direction 18 million more people have insurance that didn't before so that is progress.

The problem is a, and has been that medical costs continue to out pace inflation. That and prescription drug prices are out of control.

At the end of the day getting insurance companies out of the picture will save about 30% by some estimates. The cost of administering Medicare adds about 3% to its cost for a net savings to the payer of about 27% all by itself.

Anyone who has dealt with the insurance companies knows they sure as hell aren't good at patient care and are profit driven rather then patient outcome driven.

That piece I put up explains a great deal of the problems we all face going forward.

I will say this too, you may not be for it now but in the not to distant future the reality of where we are heading will hit you, just like it has hit me and most Americans.

At the end of the day ACA was a good first step it just didn't fix the bleeder it put a band aid on it. The government has successfully administered Medicare for years they can do this and have for decades.
