Kevin Ollie gets it done in March, the CBS guys were all over Colorado and I'm just thinking you're about to be wrong.

I stand corrected. The Buckeye Men host the Akron Zips tonight at 7 pm EST in NIT first round play.

I very rarely would root against the Buckeyes. But the Zips have a decent team and this is not a big game for the Buckeyes. It is for the Zips. Akron is ~35th - “other teams receiving votes”, in the AP poll.

It would be one of their biggest victories in recent team history.

Go Zips! (5 point underdawgs)

Sorry anyone other than the Buckeyes I would root for Akron ... GO BUCKEYES!!!

Ya, generally me too. It's just that the Buckeye season has been disappointing. And even if they win the NIT, OK, that's nice. (that wouldn't have been our hope in the preseason)

But Akron can still aspire to a great season (for them).

Do you like to put a few dollars down on games to “make them more interesting”?

A little advice from Uncle rockyhilldawg: Stay away from big spreads!

For instance, tomorrow: Kansas vs. Austin Peay (Austin Peay +26 ½ points).

I wouldn’t touch that game.

Been there, done that, paid bookie.

All righty

The buy-in games start in ~ an hour (First Four):

Holy Cross Crusaders vs. Southern Jaguars and Tulsa Golden Showers (Hurricanes) vs. Michigan Wolverines.

I don’t see any chance of The Crusaders winning. They went 5-13 in the Patriot League. Somehow they won the league tourney.

Southern, a historically black college, has been ineligible from postseason play the last two years due to “academic irregularities”. I suspect the Jaguars are going to be very hungry tonight.

Michigan and Tulsa play in Dayton tonight. Wolverines should defend the Big Ten honor and roll into the field of 64.

My guess, Southern and Michigan move on.

I'm confused, why do the play in games get seeds other than 16? I was always under the impression the play in winners get the 16 seed. I feel like they just started doing this a few years ago, for example Witchitaw State is an 11 seed?

They make the worst mid-major conference winners to be the 16 seeds.

They make the "bubble" (big conference) teams to be the 10 and 11 seeds.

It's so that the first round games provide an advantage for the higher seeds.

Perhaps the best game in the whole tourney will be tomorrow:

Kansas vs. UConn, 7:45 pm EST, Des Moines, Iowa

PS. Do you know why UConn is the Huskys (the dog)?

Because it's UConn - like Yukon, Canada. Husky - sled dog from the Yukon.

Remember UConn Cornelius?

I like to imagine what basketball game crowds were like in the 50s and 60s.

I'm sure plenty of folks are also betting against my Huskies today as well.

How quick they forget two years ago when we were a 7 seed and took Univ of Florida (Tourney Favorites) to school.

Kevin Ollie does three great things with our team

1) The Huskies play excellent defense.
2) The Huskies' Free Throw Percentage is through the roof (very few free points left off the board)
3) Our Basketball Team's Conditioning is as good as any in the business. Our player's legs don't get tired at the end of games because during the offseason the conditioning program is rigorous. This helps with free throws and with defense. It allows us to capitalize on our strength (transition basketball) and wear the other team out.

So Maryland gets to play Kansas... if they shoot the ball the way they did last night, they will lose by 30. Seriously, it won't even be close.

If you didn't watch the game, Maryland made their second FG with 10 minutes to go in the first half.. (but they were only down by 4 because of free throws and well.... they were playing Hawaii)... in the first half they had exactly ONE FG from outside 5 feet..... they made their first 3 pointer about midway through the second half on their 16th attempt (they finished the game 1 of 18)... but had already built a 7 point lead (again.. it was Hawaii)...

Didn't see the game. But I've only seen Maryland play Conn at the beginning of the year.

You guys served us a beating. I think you share a decent shot.

It's just one game. That guy Perry Ellis could be off, and that Melo Trimble could go off on them.

We played them great in the 2nd half. You just can't go down by 24 at the end of the 1st half on that team. Have to push the pace, get the easy transition buckets and make your free throws.

Plus, you gotta get back on defense, and you can't let them get into a rhythm

Hey, some surprising Big Ten second round wins:

Indiana beat Kentucky
Wisconsin beat Xavier
Mayland over Hawaii

3 teams out of 16.

19% of the Sweet Sixteen is Big Ten.

Then there were two.

Wisconsin and Indiana both play tonight.

Losers go home until November, winners go to the Final Four.

And the ACC had 6 in the sweet sixteen, now has 4 in the elite 8.. and is guaranteed to have 2 in the final 4. Now the ACC did catch a few breaks, they got 6 teams to the sweet 16 without having to play a single game against a team ranked higher than 7..

After all of the hoopla.. we have:

South 1 vs 2
East 1 vs 6
West 1 vs 2
Midwest 1 vs 10

And that 10, Syracuse, got to play a 7, a 15, and an 11.. instead of a 7, a 1, and a 3..

So the ACC is guaranteed to have two teams in the final 4 and one team in the finals.

Many of the final 8 teams are playing their BEST basketball right now: Oregon, Oklahoma, Kansas, UNC, Virginia, Villanova

It's going to be a great final week

IMO the best two conferences are the big 12 and acc ... so the cream has risen

Missed this thread. Oklahoma is my pick to win it all. They have the formula of past champs. I think Nova is really good so it's going to be an excellent matchup.
