Ok my son and a couple of his high school buddies went to a Dallas Stars game

Of course they bought nosebleed seats. Before the game they were down by the glass watching the players warm up

My son got the idea to check on stub hub to see if anyone was selling tickets in that section. Sure enough somebody had four for sale. So they sat in them $250 dollar seats for about $20

Genius or stealing? Lol

technically, stealing....

my thoughts, genius....

As long as you don't want to go to the concession stand or the bathroom because I'm assuming closer to game time you would have to show a ticket to get back to that seat.

I'm confused, did they pay $20 for the seats? if they did, Genius. If they just sat there without paying, then yeah, that's stealing!

They paid $20 to get into the arena and sit in the nosebleeds.. once inside they ran stub hub and found that 4 MUCH BETTER seats were still available on the internet and would not be used.. so they sat in them.

Squatting is apparently a time honored practice.

Squatting is the action of occupying an abandoned or unoccupied area of land–or a building, usually residential–that the squatter does not own, rent or otherwise have lawful permission to use. Author Robert Neuwirth suggested in 2004 that there were one billion squatters globally.

Exactly

It's his contention that they were just enjoying something nobody was using anyway

And since that were not prohibiting someone from using them it was technically not stealing

A fine line imo

It's not stealing. The ushers job is to make sure that only people with proper tickets are in specific seats. After that, all bets are off. It's only a "thing" if you're in someone else's seat, they show up, and you refuse to leave. It doesn't hurt anyone or anything thing to sit in better seats.

There have been times I sat in worse seats. Would that be stealing too to the people saying it's wrong to do this act?

It's also very smart to check for unsold seats online to ensure the missing group won't show up to embarrass you and disrupt the game for others.

Stealing would be buying one movie ticket and not leaving for 6-8 hours while watching four movies. In this case, your son bought tickets to the event. It's expected that people will try to improve your seats at sporting events.

Come on, I spent a lot of time at old municipal stadium for Indians games. You buy a $7 ticket and then walk around the whole game sitting in many different sections. Most of the time the ushers didn't care. We bought tickets, we're buying concessions, aren't yelling or starting fights, and supporting the team. Relax.

Most recently, I've been going to half a dozen White Sox games a year. I'll buy the fam our three tickets in the nosebleeds and the users will usually tell us to move over into the better sections because they don't want to keep walking over by us (because there are only 12-15k at the stadium).

genius. it's those little victories in life that makes it enjoyable, ya know?

like a cashier forgetting to ring up something on the belt, you get to save a couple bucks.

I see the little victory as telling the cashier she missed the items. To me, being honest and doing the right thing is the victory.

i'm speaking more along the lines of you werent aware it happened until you left.

i'm not talking about literally watching the belt and not saying anything.

Yeah, I always say something too. I'll even try to pay attention in case they keyed in "apples" and I picked out the organic apples.

If a cashier gave me $1 or $1,000 in wrong change, I would tell them.

Genius. Nothing quite like a little bit of ingenuity that goes a long way.

I may try this at the Indians games this season...

Stealing, I wouldn't do it. I would be mortified If I was caught and asked to leave or go back to my seat.

You have a ticket that says exactly what seat you paid for. That is the only thing your money bought. Sitting in more expensive seating is stealing that seat.

As a kid my dad and I often sat all over Tiger's stadium. We had great seats behind the dugout as my dad's neighbor was the MudHen's secretary. We had 'player's seats' sitting at times with the families of the players. Part of the fun at some games was just exploring the stadium. Sitting in centerfield, or in the upper deck. We never took other people's seats and if we had we would have gotten up and moved without question. I'm thankful my dad was willing to to this with me. I'm glad I was given the chance to see all parts of the old stadium. Glad I got to see the game from different angles. So we gave up good seats that were paid for lesser seats that were never paid for. Is that stealing? Is it stealing if you took nothing and no one was put out? I mean if you want to get anal retentive about it, I guess? Is there anything else you can think of that could be stolen without being in possession of something and no one is ever put out by it?

No harm, no foul. The game was played without incident, nobody was denied a seat they rightfully paid for...

In fact you could argue it's a good thing because more seats closer to the ice were full which creates more noise and looks better on television.

You could argue it but it would be extremely beneath you. I already know you're personal integrity, you'd call a penalty on yourself in a heartbeat because it's the right thing to do.

We all know right vs. wrong, this is not the right thing to do.

No harm no foul = a foot wedge.

I don't know. The fact that he went on line to find the seats is a bit of an issue for me. We used to go to Pirates games when there were about 5000 people in the stadium... we would watch the first 2 innings from our seats in the upper level and then move down to better seats on the first level.. Is that cheating as well?

Assuming you are playing against somebody or using the score for your handicap, then a foot wedge isn't a "no harm" incident, it's cheating.

Exactly it's cheating and you (DC) would never do it just because you could get away with it, you have way more integrity than that.

It's wrong.

So is this.

Just because you can do a thing doesn't mean you should do a thing.

That's how I see it. When you try to take someone to court to sue them you must show a loss. If there's no loss there's no suit.

Me too ~ 1970. The attendance would be like 6,000, but it looked like there were ~ 100 people in the cavernous Municipal Stadium

Exactly. That is what I always say to med express when they make me pay a co pay for a specialist to see a PA. When you question them, they say because we can.

Well, I "can" do many things in the classroom but I don't because it is not right.

Lets change this around just a bit. Is taking a mulligan, or moving your golf ball just a smidge (a few inches) cheating and have you ever done it? poke
