But, the handle is flesh toned.

It's all narrow and tight. Very rigid. Unbending. Used to manipulate and tell the blade what to do.

And the blade? My goodness, it looks soooooooo dangerous. It probably wants to hurt me.

It's obvious that the way Sashi addressed it was encompassing agents in general. Not a positive way to move forward with player agents.

And what I see missing from so many is that negotiations are a two way street. People act as though they are the only greedy party in contract negotiations.

Well, in case you missed it, Haslam has sat on loads of cap space for years now. Being greedy hasn't been a one way street.

jc ...

I think what Sashi said is much ado about nothing. So because there is some unspoken code about alienating agents, that gives agents a free pass to lie and say whatever they want to the media? I'm glad he called them on their BS.

I don't know if it's posted on this board or not, but there is an article on Mack and his FA process which states that dealing with Sashi and the Browns FO was a very respectful process. They praised the Browns FO multiple times.

What does any of this mean? If you are already predisposed to hate the FO, you will believe anything that paints them in a bad light and will use any ammunition possible to continue to bash them ... like some silly quote about agents. If you sit on the other side of the fence, you'll do the same.

Who cares? The Browns will suck no matter who owns them, who runs the team, who plays for them ... no matter the year. That's just the way it is. Until it isn't.

LOL - The Rish will be upset with this news as well. KS just doesn't prioritize winning...

The funny part is people decide to pick a side and claim the other side is doing the BS. We really don't know who is doing the BSing.

Considering the this fan base has been promised so much and been given so little, I'm not quite sure who is BSing us, are you?

I think you actually know better.

Everything is about public relations. We have absolutely no idea who is lying about this situation. We have no idea if our FO pulled the offer or not.

Our FO isn't going to be any more honest with us as to what is going on behind the scenes as the players agents are.

But it must be of some kind of false comfort to believe one side is the devil and the other side are the angels. Hey, whatever helps people sleep better at night.

Hey, more labeling! Yeay!!!!!

Don't agree w/a take, label the poster and make him seem ridiculous. Then later, change your tune and lead the charge to have guys fired.

Over and over and over and over....

Btw---------the NFL is a people business. And no amount of labeling is going to change that.

I don't think ddub was saying that SB had only a month the same way an outside newbie would have a month. Of course, Sashi knew the players/numbers. That's for sure.

No... I read dub's comment like this:

Without knowing whom Hue would want to keep/drop, almost ALL negotiations had to be postponed/slow-walked. That postponement led to roughly a month's worth of real time to hammer things out with ALL of them.

I'd like to hear from ddub to find out if my reading comprehension was on-point this time. I get a lot of stuff wrong around here- on the regular. wink

It is. Your explanation explains it in a nut shell.

Sashi had to wait until he got a HC and then had to wait until the HC made his decisions on those players. If that's accurate, it goes to show that Sashi is not in the GM role and it also shows how much of a say the HC has on the 53. In a typical GM role Sashi would have decided who he wanted on the 53 man roster and the HC would decide who to play on game day.

There, after your nutshell explanation I've gone and made it wordy and complicated again. blush

I think he means the kind where you can't post pros or cons without being categorized into an overly optimistic or needlessly pessimistic group which is meant to define you from that point forward so that your opinion is no longer valid because, "Of course you'd say that".

That kind of labeling.

Hue was announced as HC of the Browns on Jan 13, 2016. The Browns had 4 starters who were going to be free agents..so how long does it take Sashi to ask Hue which of the free agents he wants to retain?

Hue had more than enough time to analyze each player and Sashi had more than enough time to work on contract negotiations.

Obviously Sashi and Hue had enough time to decide which free agents they wanted to retain and turns out Schwartz was a priority. The Browns did make an offer to Schwartz and Schwartz was willing to sign that offer before free agency began at 4pm on Wednesday, March 9th.

For some unknown reason the Browns changed their mind about signing Schwartz and allowed him to leave the Browns in free agency and he was quickly signed by the Chiefs.

The Browns front office failed to sign any of their 4 free agent starters...and now Sashi is having a hard time explaining why he failed to do his job.

That's if you think Hue came in day one knowing the all the players and which ones fit his needs. If you think that on day one all he had to do was analyze players then ya.

But if you consider that upon being hired he's immediately hounded by the local and national media for interviews day after day, that he has to immediately interview and hire his own staff while the pickings are good, read reports on and watch film on each player to see what adjustments he'll have to make on is preferred scheme and then confer with his coaching staff to be more specific watching film and analysing each FA for their fit then you might think he could use a week or two to pull all that together.

If it takes him two weeks then Sashi has one month to negotiate with the player's agents at at time when the agents are busy negotiating contact talks for his other players too, (not only his Browns players), with other teams as they test the FA market. Everyone's super busy in a shortened time frame.

It's like getting into the Red Zone. The field shortens and limits your options.

May I address your reading comprehension? Or, perhaps my communication abilities?

I understood what ddub was saying. My point was that Sashi's job description duties included negotiating contracts while Farmer was here, thus he was fully capable of re-working the contracts in question before Farmer and Pet got fired and Hue got here.

But before Farmer, who was in charge of the 53, got fired, he would have had to instruct Sashi to re-work the contracts in question. That would not be a move Sashi could do on his own. If he did he would've been overstepping his bounds by making the decision on who we want to keep, Farmer's job.

If you're saying Farmer should have instructed Sashi to re-work those contracts much earlier then I agree.

dub...I'm not very politically correct but folks should not take my nicknames so seriously.

In the case of Sashi...I lost a lot of respect for him due to the way he did his job. One of the first tests he faced as the Browns GM, he failed miserably.

As the thread title says, "not ready for prime time"..that is the current status of the Browns front office. What worries me is the draft..it will be 10 times any pressure Sash faced in free agency. So far, I see nothing that suggests Sashi Brown is qualified to handle a draft room/draft board or hold the position of GM for a professional football team.

How Sashi does his job will determine whether the Browns get better or continue to be the bottom feeders of the NFL.

The Cleveland Browns cannot afford any mistakes..and I'm tired of excuses.

I will judge Sashi Brown by the way he performs his job. Don't be surprised if I call him Sushi in the future..heck, that's not even a nasty name. wink

I think Sashi had the framework for contract negotiations ready. Granted he had probably a month with the final decision after Hue/Horton on Gipson and also his last hire Berry top Personnel guy. Sashi's efforts were not the problem.

The fact is our guys were moving on to greener grass after the Firings, their minds were pretty much made up.
Benji probably wanted to be here out of all but we were not going to spend the money he wanted...if that decision was wrong so be it. I think it was a good move.

I think we knew early on that we wanted Mack and Schwartz to remain here. To keep the 5 together.

Problem was Mack and Schwartz did not seem to want to stay and were using our offers as leverage to get out of here. Yeah after the tears from Mack point blank he wanted out. If you read his quotes he basically said that.

Schwartz his agent screwed up. They burnt a bridge in leaving and took the Contract off.

What a lot of people forget is that RT and C is not rare positions. Mack we knew was special he was pretty key. But again we wanted to keep a big key the "OL UNIT" together. When Schwartz came back we had word that Mack was going to Atlanta...Schwartz's value dropped cause the key part of the 5 was gone.

And NO before anyone starts being cute or as you all say SNARKY??? I DID NOT have inside info on this SPECULATIVE THOUGHT PROCESS...of course I am one of the few posters that must put that disclaimer in their post.

This is me following the situation and coming up with "LOGICAL" conclusion of what happened. You all have freedom to make up your own minds if this sounds logical and believable but I've read a lot of speculative opinions that aren't quite so logical.

Benji liked the money but more liked the prospects of catching passes from an elite QB and I think Rivers is elite.

Gipson...stated he wanted to change locations

Mack had his mind made up before Sashi even started negotiations.

Schwartz and Agent just believed PFF and thought they were the top FA out there. Expecting to be the highest paid RT in the NFL. I think think they burnt the bridge when they left the table. But I got the impression that Schwartz definitely was leaving and then reality set in...Follow the money. I still think if we got back to the table...Schwartz would have got more than what KC offered.

Mack..the Browns would have to pay the price to keep the best...they did not want to enter into any kind of bidding war for Mack.

The only player that was a priority for Sashi was Schwartz. No one should get their damn undies in a bunch because Schwartz and his agent took advantage of the two day period before free agency began, to see what the market was.

I'll say it again, no one in the Browns front office should have been upset at Schwartz taking a look at the market. If someone did get peeved over Schwartz taking a look before free agency began, it shows the degree of immaturity and lack of professionalism in this Browns organization.

Schwartz took a look and returned BEFORE FREE AGENCY STARTED to sign the Browns offer, estimated at $7 mill per year, and Schwartz was met with BS from the Browns front office...I would assume it was Sashi since he is supposed to be in charge.

In short, Sashi Browns allowed hurt feelings within the front office to dictate his decision to allow Schwartz to walk.

Now, people can spin it...claim they know..whatever..but Sashi Brown had a job to do and he failed to get the job done.

As of now, it does not look like Sashi Brown is cut out to hold the position of GM. Just having a Harvard education is not enough!

The Schwartz deal was a situation where FOOTBALL EXPERIENCE would have helped and Sashi's lack of football experience did hurt the team. Right out of the gate, the Browns front office has a bad reputation thanks to their conduct in the Mitchell situation.

What really scares me is Sashi doing the Browns draft, where he has very little experience. If Sashi screws up the draft, Haslam should make a quick change at GM.

I still say this franchise needs someone with football experience in charge of the football side of the Browns.

It doesn't make any sense at all for us to do what you explained we did.

Sashi doesn't appear to be the INSANE LUNATIC you wish us to believe.

First I'm hearing of us NOT PULLING The contract Ballpeen. Of course everything I read on this was provided by Schwartz's agent and brother.

It just doesn't make sense.

Sashi is quoted as saying they did NOT pull any contract for Schwartz. He said that the other day at the NFL meetings in Florida.

That's my point, in a way. If Farmer wanted them back Sashi should have done the contract last year. If he didn't it would not be on Sashi to do it anyway. If Farmer wanted them and Sashi didn't do his job then yeah, it's all on him.

It's hard to imagine he or any contract negotiator would blow his assignment that bad. But it's not hard for me to imagine Farmer dicking around, not making up his mind, pushing the decision into the future, the way he did with Mack two years ago and with Gipson tagging him at the last minute. Anyway, he got fired leaving the decision for the next guy, in this case Sashi.

I could be wrong. Farmer may have told him last October he wanted to extend Schwartz's contract but Sashi drug his feet or played hardball or something else that prevented an earlier signing. So maybe it's all on him. I just don't think it would've gone down that way.

I don't suppose it's even possible that when Schwartz returned BEFORE FREE AGENCY STARTED his agent wanted even more money from the Browns beyond the contract Sashi offered in order to pass on KCs offer.

You think you know what happened, state it as a fact and then place the blame where you think it should go. And then go on to call it spin if someone doesn't agree with you.

No, I honestly believe he wouldn't have publicly commented on it at all, like, "It's over, he's with KC now, we're moving on", kinda thing.

I feel he made the comments he did because he didn't like getting lied about publicly, made to look bad, and it irked him. Whether or not he should have said anything is another discussion, but I'd guess that why he did it.
