You will notice that I said they move right, not that they become far right..
I would agree that it's not too common for somebody raised far right to move far left or vice versa... most kids are the middle somewhere and they start farther right then as they age the move toward the right... some more than others.
Most kids will never get as far right as their parents on social issues.

Bernie Sanders just finished speaking here in Portland. Over 20,000 queued up and filled the Moda Center (where the Trailblazers play). He leaves for Seattle and will speak at Safeco Field.
Sanders' rally will probably be ignored in the media as the for-profit mass media fears him and their journalists would currently rather write about Trump/Cruz's disgraceful insults of each others wives.
I still can't see any mathematical way Sanders can win the nomination but, if Clinton does indeed win she really needs to bring him on board in some capacity.

if Clinton does indeed win she really needs to bring him on board in some capacity. First, I'm not 100% sure he would accept that... and second, I doubt she would. Everything about Hillary is "business as usual" and Bernie represents change. Whether you agree with it or not, Bernie represents change and Hillary isn't about changing much... she's also not about sharing credit... so I don't see it happening.

I agree with you to a certain extent DC but, to be fair I think Hillary is a far better candidate today than she was in 2008. That is because of Sanders. His passion and the message he brings but, more importantly, the hundreds of thousands/millions who have shown up to his rallies cannot be ignored. She would do herself a disservice not to somehow have him in her cabinet.
That said, whether he would take it or not is completely debatable.

Ok, when you made your first comment, I thought you were talking VP.. which I don't think would work for the reasons stated. Then again, the best way to collect his votes but then delegate him into oblivion, is probably to make him VP... A cabinet position, AFTER she has won, might be a better idea if she really feels that he has an area of expertise.

I still can't see any mathematical way Sanders can win the nomination but, if Clinton does indeed win she really needs to bring him on board in some capacity. I did a bit of research (just a bit) 1 Super delegate = 40,000 actual votes. Bernie can talk about the systemic rigging of the system and folks don't seem capable of figuring that out but when 40,000 = 1 that should prove it. The republican party is finished, the Democratic party which is equally corrupt isn't all that far behind. JMHO

I also keep telling myself when I do the math that it is worth remembering…super delegates have ALWAYS reinforced the popular vote. Many switched from Hillary to Obama late in 2008. So, I try not to be fooled by math that includes them. Their votes can change right up to the convention floor. So, we shall see.
I agree that the system is broken. The Democratic party itself may not be too far behind but, at least they do not continue to endorse, support and roll out insane cartoon characters. If there is one reason to still have hope in one of the two major American political parties it is for this one reason only.

I checked it I don't believe its at all accurate, in fact I would say not the slightest bit so. I can't prove it but they seem unable to explain their calculations either. If it fits what you want to believe -vs- the truth then I guess you'll run with it.

Not a single member of the right that are the majority on this board will state the obvios the Republican party is finished. Their not only going to lose the presidential election I'm betting that they suffer a nearly complete sweep in the house and the senate their going to get hammered people are pissed they went to far but the Democrats have been their partner in crime so their next just watch.

Regarding taxes/tax plans etc….
I lived and worked in the UK for many years. I paid into their National Health Care System and the percentage of my paycheck that was taken out was comparable to what is taken out of my paycheck every month for my health insurance in the US. Also, prescriptions were considerably less and doctors, dentists etc. don't all live in McMansions. They probably earn more than teachers but, they are by no means mega-rich or, millionaires. By contrast, our system lines the pockets of greedy pharmaceutical companies, it encourages unnecessary testing at higher costs and arguably preys on vulnerable people who have little options or are scared.
The British also have a private system so, lets say for example you have a hernia and you are on a waiting list for National Health Care surgery (most common male operation, it isn't always painful and you arn't going to die from it) you can still choose to go privately and be seen immediately and STILL not be bankrupt by paying out of pocket for the procedure.
College education used to be free in the UK but, it now costs but, certainly NOWHERE near the cost of a house mortgage that it is here in the US. Sure, they have private secondary schools that are super expensive and mainly wealthy kids go but, further/higher education is still affordable and a totally realistic option for both the rich and poor.
Am I saying the British or European nations are perfect? Far from it and of course there are negatives to the system. But, for all the negatives there are many more positives that are far wider reaching.
So, yes, I too subscribe to Obama, Hillary and Bernie's belief that in arguably the wealthiest country in the world both health care and education should always be a basic human right…never a privilege. If that makes me a "bleeding heart liberal" well, sign me up.

Would you care to list the income tax rates for the European countries? And the sales tax? And all the other taxes? Or would you rather not do that?

Every European country is different so what the UK pay will be different than France. But, yes…20% VAT not to mention their gas taxes is high. But, they also have excellent public transport in comparison to most of the US so, if one lives in London or Paris etc. you don't really need a car. Kinda like living in NYC.
In comparison…Oregon has no sales tax. sounds good, right? Well, when the economy crashed our schools had to lay-off a ton of teachers and class sizes soared to 50+ (highest in nation or certainly in top 3). If we had a sales tax we would at least have more accessible money in the pot for education during a recession.

and that's what people don't understand, bro.
alot of people in europe don't drive because they don't need to. they have some of the best public transportation on the planet.
gas is high there, but if you see some of the cars they have, than it's not the big of a deal.
they look at our trucks, and while they are impressed because they never SEEN pick up trucks like ours before, they still find it highly impractical.
when my mother-in-law visited us here in the states, it was her first time ever here.
one of the things she noticed was: "why are there so many women driving huge SUV's when they only have 2 kids?"

Oh, I don't think Hillary and Bernie are anything more than less funny cartoon characters. This has got to be the biggest roster of buffoonery ever trotted out for a presidential election.

yea, and while it was hilarious, i think most people, non media, would say that it's just being a decent person to leave people's wives and children out of nonsense like this.
the man is fair game, but we all should know to leave his family out of it, ya know?
it's not like they were mentioning the wive's position on policy or something. it was over the hotness or lack thereof. it was ridiculous.

This was a great moment at Sanders' Portland rally yesterday. If this had happened at a Trump rally it would be all over the mainstream news and major headlines. Probably because the bird would have pooped on Trump! https://www.yahoo.com/news/little-bird-s...--election.html

uh oh... HERE COMES BERNIE! Blow outs in Washington and Alaska. Hawaii next. And I just noticed Bernie now has 29 Super Delegates... did some abandon Hillary? May 17th is Oregon and as most of the population in the state is in Portland/Salem/Eugene they will swing it. Portland and Eugene alone will probably push it majorly in Sanders' favor but, maybe as there are not as many big cities in Oregon as there are in Washington Hillary may capitalize? Just driving around Portland neighborhoods and seeing the Bernie signs in lawns one feels he is definitely the preferred candidate for this city. I read an article after Ohio/Missouri etc. Primaries and it said "Hillary's best states are now done and Bernie 's are just beginning". Could make for an interesting finish. To be honest, I am perfectly happy with either. My heart is with Bernie but, my head is probably more with Hillary simply because of her experience and knowledge of the world outside of the US thanks to being in the White House and as SoS. At this particular juncture in time I think that is invaluable. But, I am more than happy if Bernie is the candidate. His passion is undeniable, his character and record are admirable and he really is the only candidate highlighting just how broken and corrupt the system has become. I am also not so sure Trump will be the Republican candidate. I am thinking a contested convention is highly probable. The Republicans also don't like Cruz so, who knows…Paul Ryan, Kasich, Romney? They are an absolute mess.

If that voting total holds up you will have just north of 600 votes.
The republicans were just shy of 22,000.
It's probably a safe bet that while delegates will be doled out, the popular vote will go to whomever is the R.

The republicans I've met here aren't quite like the ones down in the lower 48. Many are quite pragmatic individuals who truly fall center of the line. Many believe the climate is a major concern, but many on the GOP fail to recognize it, too. They're quite in the middle on social issues, too.
The big fight now is about our state budget. The majority of the revenue the state pulled in came from oil prices. We're talking over 85% of the budget getting funded by oil. Obviously the state sees a major shortfall on this. The fixes range from tapping into the oil payment fund (all Alaskan residents get a check between 1000-1500 once a year due to the record oil profits of the past) and slashing the payouts in half, a state income tax, or a combination of both. The reality for up here is that even if all state employees were cut there'd still be a massive shortfall.
