Early on I was trying to make sense of the whole thing. When I'm faced with something I have no control over I try to understand it rather than rail against it.
Complaining can't change it, blind faith is foolish, the attempt to understand it is the first order in forming my opinion. That's what you read from me at that time, grasping at straws trying to understand. I agree 100% ... only SMART thing to do ... how can u have an opinion on something u don't understand ... I know most of the time that's what happens ... but your smarter than most, so I expect nuttin less from U .. problem here is .. this hire makes no sense in any context ... well at least not if your interested in winning FOOTBALL GAMES!!!! It's obvious the Browns have been doing it wrong for a long time, even before Haslem. We've missed on so many high draft picks it ain't funny anymore. Something has to change. But what exactly? That's easy .. and changing processes or hiring NON FOOTBALL people is NOT THE ANSWER ... answer is simple .. HIRE GOOD FOOTBALL PEOPLE AND GET THE HELL OUT OF THE WAY!!! Haslam has done NEITHER .... lets look at Jim's hires so far .. Banner/Lombardi .. that was a joke ... neither of them know diddly about putting together a WINNING FOOTBALL team ... ZERO ... Chud .. Jim backed in to this one ... possibly his best hire since coming back .. (Jackson has a shot .. but so far .. NOT EVEN A LITTLE IMPRESSED .. WE'LL see what the Offensive mastermind he supposedly is has in store for us at QB ... check back in 3 years on this one .. ) .. LETS SEE HERE .. a FO that is clueless and mixes with the coaches like WATER and OIL .. 2ND SET OF HIRES - Farmer coupled with Pettine ... another OIL and WATER mixture .. these groups just didn't get along ... point fingers where u may depending on the faction your with ... bottom line is ... they did NOT GET ALONG and left this team a COMPLETE AND UTTER MESS .. Haslam has owned this team for 3 or 4 years now .... he took over a mess ... problem is ... ITS A BIGGER MESS NOW ... now he promotes Brown and makes him the man on the football ops side of things ... his mantra is to reward those that do it the right way ... well so far he has not exactly been a man of his words ... cause hes REWARDED NO ONE!!!! plus these other hires on the management side are POSSIBLY HIS WORSED YET ... and that includes Brown ... what experience does he have running a football team??? ... hire good football people and get the hell out of the way ddub .... THIS ISN'T ROCKET SCIENCE ... were NOT SPLITTING ATOMS HERE ... lets not make it more complicated than it is ... As Chief Strategy Officer, DePodesta will own the strategy-making process from end to end. He will evaluate intelligence and make sure the right information is in the right hands. He will guide the process of formulating strategy. He will assist in articulating strategy to the Browns organization so that others can make good decisions. He will ensure that executives know how and when to execute strategic action (that’s why they are called executives!). And he will make sure that the Browns’ leadership learns from experience, reviewing the results of past decisions and tweaking the process so that future decisions are better made. dude ... this isn't Exxon corp .. we don't have 13 divisions spread across 20 locations ... how big do u think our org. is? ... if we need someone to "coordinate" all this ... we've made the process way more complicated than it is .. make sure the proper people get the right info to make an informed decision???? .. WTF bro .... how many chefs we got in this kitchen??? DON'T OVER COMPLICATE THIS ... not that hard ... That's a lot to do when you consider the job likely has to start at the top and work it's way down. In the short time he's been here I doubt he's progressed to the point that we lost 4 of our free agents due to his analytic numbers saying it's the right thing to do. U could be correct ... I HIGHLY DOUBT IT ... lets see ... 3 of the 4 we lost fit under the YOUNG, GOOD, HOMEGROWN category .... all 3 seemed to work hard and do things the right way ... so why did we lose them??? ... As far as Brown saying we didn't bring him in for analytics ... then please have him tell me why we brought him in then ... football knowledge? ... NOT .. to make sure the info gets into the right hands? ... we couldn't have hired someone else to do that .. AND AGAIN ... I don't even know what that means in football .. HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE INVOLVED THAT WE NEED AN "INFORMATION GUY" to make sure everyone gets the info they need .. thee guys are talking through their asses and your believing it ... PLEASE ... tell me how every other NFL football team DOES THIS W/O Mr. Moneyball??? ... AGAIN ... this is SIMPLE ... HIRE GOOD FOOTBALL PEOPLE AND LEAVE THEM ALONE!!!!!

First, I'm really glad you made it back so soon. Second, ..these guys are talking through their asses and your believing it ... Like I said from the beginning, I'm trying to understand, not a blind faith believer. The stuff I posted about DePodesta's role in all this is cut/paste, not my call. I busted my ass today. Getting ready to kick back. Just thought I'd check the board first. Wanted to take a minute to say 'Hey' and thank you for your response. Give me a bit to read over your post another time or two to see what I can get from it and see if I have any counter points. Keep comin' back!

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Diam...good to read you.
Not going to go into depth on this. Will be pretty layman about this.
I think Sashi was promoted to take over Sheiner's position President and to be at the head of the ROUND TABLE lol ... What I mean is make sure there is ONE GOAL, ONE THOUGHT being at the head of the decisions. Not a faction to build between personnel and Coaching.
Its different and then again its not so different. Can Hue become (evolve) into a BB genre head of the class with tools all around him?
Different yes, but make no mistake about it. Hue is King and so far (small time to view) he has been a just King listening from his generals and advisors.
Look I'm not going to go all HOMER on you and yell from the top of the HILL we are SUPER BOWL BOUND. I don't know where this is going to head to. I like that its different I like the way the establishment almost are afraid for it to succeed so ridicule it at every chance.
I don't see a power struggle. I'm glad those guys are nerds and not on the field grown - that is how power struggles have become what they have been.
Hue is the Football guy...he provides all the Football variables to those nerds who do know football and have been around football. All 3. Shashi 13 years??? While he has book wormed his way through his duties I'm sure he didn't just stop there, I'm sure he studied, observed and formulated theories. Berry he's risen up the charts in the Personnel he has been a quick study and has formulated organization of the tools at hand. DePodesta is a data genius in applying it to the Study of the sport and he has knowledge of football.
Its not this Cluster muck - why cause in one day of FA. They didn't choose to lose all those 4 homegrown players. More so they chose to see what else is out there. I have told all (never spit on them) that I DON'T BLAME THEM!
We lost them to our INSTABILITY...all 4 of them this was going to be their 4th HC in 5 seasons. That is why they are gone. First and foremost.
I wish to see how we build this thing. The 2nd tier signings seem ok...got to see how they fit in and deliver. All the positions we did lose are not RARE Positions in the NFL...and before you come down on me...I'm not saying the 4 weren't worth keeping...I already said what I thought of that, if they truly wanted to be here...they would be.
But NOW THAT THEY are GONE. RT, C, FS and 3rd WR are not rare positions to fill. We didn't lose a QB, LT, Elite Edge Rusher, Elite Cover Corner...those are the rare positions that if we lost 4 would have been devastating.
What I thought was humorist was how many said well lets TRADE Joe Thomas as if we were unloading talent!
Its not the Sashi, Berry, Paul D, Hue Fab 4 that will keep us down...its if we Fire all and start over. That is the biggest key. Once and for all have STABILITY and Continuity! jmho...happy to wait and see.

ifferent yes, but make no mistake about it. Hue is King and so far (small time to view) he has been a just King listening from his generals and advisors.
Diam, not sure if tab thinks Sashi is a liar or not, but here is an excerpt from an interview w/Sashi Brown. These are his own words. It's not my opinion. On how much influence Jackson and DePodesta will have on personnel decisions and who’s responsible for a player if he doesn’t work out:Brown: “They have made that clear. We figured that out over the last couple of weeks. (Jackson and DePodesta) have been involved in the process so far. We have met with a handful of candidates. Actually a couple handful of candidates for our personnel guy. We hope to wrap that search up in the next week or two and make a hire and a decision there. That person will also be very involved in personnel decisions and driving our personnel function. In collaboration with me, Hue and Paul. Ultimately at the end of the day, Paul and Hue will both have significant influence over our decisions. I do ultimately have the decision making authority over the 53 (man roster). I think anybody who has worked with me understands I want to listen, I want to make sure everyone’s input is weighed as we make the decisions that will be Brown organization decisions. Not mine, not Paul’s, not Jimmy’s, not Hue’s, but Browns organization decisions moving forward.” On if he makes the final, ultimate decision on a direction in which the team is going:Brown: “Yes, that is my function. I think that is a role that I serve well and I enjoy actually making sure that everyone’s voice is heard, but we also get to the decisions that make sense as Paul referenced.” http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/news/arti...a8-2fc659ebf5bc

Everything has to be "A LIAR" to you. I know exactly what he said when he said it. Not once please tell me where I said Sashi will not have the final say.
But you make it look like he is making the decision on his own. There is no influence - great influence from the Football guy and HC who has to lead these men.
You don't think Sashi doesn't respect HUE on that aspect? Do you really expect me to believe that if Hue insisted that he has to have Wentz Sashi will make the decision to NOT get him cause he doesn't think he's a Franchise QB???
You think it was Sashi who gave the ok for us to sign RG3? No, it was after Hue had his private session with him and spent the day with him and he GAVE THE OK...yeah Sashi made the final decision if that decision was "OK HUE".
We don't want Hue micro managing everything so he won't be over burden in that regard.
But the way you guys who just dislike anything Brown right now. Think that Hue will possibly ignored and over ridden by Sashi Brown...yes I strongly say no that is not the way it will happen.
I apologize for not taking the route of pissing on our guys and calling them names and all. After all its been 20 days now. We're doomed.

I never said that. Not even once. I simply posted Sashi's words to give people a chance to look at them AFTER you say that Hue is the King and the others are here to aide him.
Sorry if that upsets you. Well, not really. Pretty tired of your antics.

I love it when you Portray yourself as a unbiased level headed...nice guy lol
So you have no opinion on the new guys, just that level headed post you made about waiting and seeing how this progress. If you posted like that all the time you wouldn't get all the hassles you do.
so now I have antics. I need Meds, I'm a liar I'm a hypocrite and when I'm not all that my posting are antics.
Back to the thread. Replacements look first who is on our roster and how they can step up. I think Davis was a good young pickup at a position with some holes. Moore, tough to tell if he can bounce back he is young also we can see how much Poyer progresses.
Bailey big and powerful, I think at the Browns site they expect him to compete with Pasztor for RT. Erving will get first crack at Center.
It was tough losing the 4 but we are not dead in the water.

So somebody points out by posting actual quotes from Sashi that Hue isn't the king you asserted he was, and you take offense to that?
Why am I not surprised?

Why am I not surprised? Where did I take offense to that??? I take offense when people insult me...that is it.
You know like you just did. Again I have to apologize cause some people like yourself don't have the vision how this is working. Its set up with Sashi with the last word cause he is at neither end of a power spectrum. There is a lot more to "ORGANIZATION" then a couple of quotes.
I do prefer quotes from the people who are involved but I think there is a lot more to it then that. But where did I take offense to the facts. Again just like you chose to insult me on this post. That is where I get angry and lose my temper. Thanks again for the insult appreciate it. You misery lovers do stick together...lol

Just checked into this thread...glad I did because I didn't realize that there was someone else just as concerned as I am over the performance of our Big Brain front office.
Diam...good to see you posting and the part about getting older and trying to hold out hope that this idiot owner will ever get it right, I get it. We know the Browns are not going anywhere this year and probably won't be two years from now. Realistically, maybe in 3 seasons IF everything goes well and there is no sign that Haslam's latest scheme will work. By the time the 2018 season rolls around, I'll be pushing 70.
I hope to live to be 90 something, but none of us get to make that call. Time is running out for the old timers who hoped to see the Browns win a Super Bowl before they died. Not trying to morbid, just realistic.
With the draft coming up, this front office will be tested again and their product will be subject to the judgement of the media and fans. If they thought they got some grief for the way they handled free agency..if they screw up the draft in a similar fashion, we could be seeing a one and done for Big Brain management running the front office in Cleveland.
If Hue wants his second go around as HC to last longer than his first, he might want to insist that he has a chair at the draft table, next to Sashi. Hue should have unlimited input into who the Browns draft..he could be saving his own neck.

Any interest in Percy Harvin as a Benjamin replacement? http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on-foot...e-he-could-land Browns were on the list of potential landing spots. Talent would be nice, but not sure I'd want the rest.

I have thought of Harvin. I'd bring him in on a very cheap two year deal.
The Bills opted out of his contract, does that affect compensatory picks?

I'm not sure why Cleveland is getting blasted so hard. I guess easy target! Once a screw up always a screw up until it is no longer screwed up! Jacksonville didn't re-sign a few of their guys. I think they turn a few heads this year with a strong draft. Oakland really turned it around. Team who I think should get heavily scrutinize is the Rams. Fours years having two first round picks each year and not once over .500. With the exception of their DL and Gurley, I think they missed badly in the draft. How much better are they compared to Cleveland?

The difference between those teams? The ones that turned it around seem to have found their QBs. The Rams have a nice roster other than that spot.
I didn't think McKenzie had a great rep until after they got Mack and Carr. 2012-13 was rough for him.
Caldwell has a bit more experience than Berry, but reading his bio sounds pretty similar. He got a finance/business administration degree from John Carroll, then worked his way up through the Colts scouting side. He ended up their western regional scout before moving to Atlanta as director of player personnel under Dimitroff. Caldwell is/was also pretty young, though Berry is definitely on an accelerated path, though only on What was the 2nd stage of Caldwell's career arc now.

I know you enjoy acting like I'm crazy, but I wasn't saying teams didn't turn around. I just don't pay a whole lot of attention to other teams' GMs. I was asking about their backgrounds. Then I did some research and commented on it.

How do they sell this current regime to incoming FAs?
This year its a tough nut to crack and it has nothing to do with with Paul or Berry or Sashi. It has to do with the total Instability of the Browns since 2009 and beyond.
How? Well are only weapon right now is our two experienced coaches in Hue Jackson and for D guys add in Horton. Both have charisma.
Mostly it will be us being the only team taking them serious as in RG3 also who is knocking down the door to sign Harvin. He has burned a lot of Bridges.
I don't know if we are that desperate...again in Hue I trust. Just as I trust his decision on RG3.

How do they sell this current regime to incoming FAs? Re-read my posts and tell me what you think. I was asking about the "architects" not the teams. I don't understand why you always seem (to me) to come in thinking the worst of everything. If I don't know something, I ask questions. Sometimes I then go and find answers for myself. I know there are people on the board who know more than I do on some subjects (like other teams GMs), so I asked a question to them.

...there are people on the board who know more than I do ... And I do not consider myself one of them. I bow before your "all-knowingness"...

I don't see the point of spending money on FA just because we have it. If it's not a clear upgrade at a position, why spend the extra cash? We don't want to get locked into bad contracts. If we are not going to go after good people, then we should be waiting. Let's hit the draft, and see what we come out of it with, then if we need to add some players let's see who is available.
Spending money just to spend it is never a good idea for any reason. Whether it's in real life, football, or business.

Thanks for your input, Sashi. A little rough on the rookie, weren't you? His first post...

Not a bad take at all. I'd echo your sentiment, and it's not like big targets want to come here anyway. The only way we get them is if they're chasing pure $$$$$, and that usually ends up as loafing around due to a HUGE payday.
Frankly accept that fact we're in another blow up, see if things change, rant away, but don't act combative if people don't have a problem with the current direction.
Reading a bunch of keyboard warrioring, and armchair GMing gets old after the first week of the offseason.

I don't look at post counts. And rough? It was meant to be humorous. Lighten up, Francis.
