Sorry to see Robertson go. Not all that we needed. I give Kirksey kind of placeholder status to be upgraded, like Mingo. Run defense must improve.

I liked Robertson too. He seemed to have an ability to "make a play", and always seemed to be around loose balls and deflected passes, kind of like Tashaun Gipson. That's not just dumb luck, IMO.

Panthers CB Josh Norman wants 16 million a year.

Part of me says, he's a really good corner, and a key piece to that defense. So he should be paid in line with other CBs.

The other part says that in the NFL in 2016, no Corner is worth 16 million a year..

CBs are being treated like QBs now adays, if you are above average, you get paid like an All Pro (Norman is more than above average though)

I just don't think it's worth it.

Agree, especially when the trend in League rules is to render CBs ineffective.

I suppose you could look at it that way, but I think the rule changes that are hindering DB's turn good ones into Hank Poteats. It seems to me that now when they do their jobs, they get flagged. Could Dixon and Minnifield play at All-Pro levels under today's rules? I doubt it.

To a point yes, however I think a good pass rush with average corners is the better way to build a defense.

You can have 4 HOF CBs, but they cant cover WRs for 6+ seconds.

Especially when they arent allowed to touch them..

That is why some of these guys make the big bucks. If they can shut down and stay inside the stacked rules, you pay them whatever they want.

Idk if I agree with this...Josh took OBJ and shut him down the whole game minus one catch and then pimp slapped him through the routes he was running...OBJ got so frustrated he started taking cheap shot at him...was kinda funny to watch...

Only three of the top 50 free agents remain unsigned

Posted by Zac Jackson on March 27, 2016, 5:45 PM EDT

Just about all the big-ticket shopping is done.

With NFL teams turning their full attention to the draft, the first phase of free agency is all but over. Following some notable transactions last week, just three players on the PFT Hot 100 Free Agent List remain unsigned: No. 25 Ryan Fitzpatrick, No. 33 Reggie Nelson and No. 45 Nick Fairley, who’s reportedly getting close to a deal with the Saints.

Only a couple major Pro Day workouts remain on the calendar, so teams are turning their attention toward private workouts and the final round of pre-draft meetings. There still could be a signing or two pop up on the transaction wire, but sometimes players still available after the first wave of movement choose to wait, thinking they’ll have more leverage or more options following the draft.

This year’s draft is April 28-30.

Fitzpatrick and the Jets are still in a bit of a staredown, with the Broncos looming as a possible contender. Nelson will have multiple options, too, though one of them probably disappeared last week when the Titans signed former Cardinals safety Rashad Johnson. It’s not just the first wave that went fast; with the Cowboys having signed running back Alfred Morris last week, players 51-66 on the Hot 100 list all have new contracts.

As for who was busiest in the fast-moving free agent period, the Jaguars ended up with No. 4 Malik Jackson, No. 34 Kelvin Beachum, No. 46 Prince Amukamara, No. 61 Chris Ivory and No. 66 Tashaun Gipson. The Giants were busy, too, signing No. 6 Olivier Vernon, No. 12 Damon Harrison and No. 29 Janoris Jenkins in addition to re-signing No. 21 Jason Pierre-Paul.

The two from that list that I think we should look at are Percy Harvin and LeGarrette Blount. But ONLY if we give them incentive based contracts.

I don't think either are worth it. Blount's not a guy I want in a locker room like ours. He's got character issues. I don't want him around the Crow or Johnson. Blount is the one who was arrested for marijuana possession with Le'Veon Bell on the way to a preseason game (who was cited for DUI and marijuana possession). I certainly don't doubt Blount knew that Bell was intoxicated. And I'm willing to bet he was, and they probably both had smoked sometime earlier.

And Harvin is just inconsistent and unreliable from what I've remembered. Plus, he's had a history of being a lockerroom pain in the butt. He only played in 5 games last year

I don't want those guys. Now we enter the period where you can get players for value. Players not signed are starting to get nervous. There are still some solid, everyday players out there. Now is the time to think about signing 1-2 of them.

I think Denver is going to cut Ryan Clady. They kind of have to. I wonder if we'd look at him as a RT.

Not to mention, a significant injury history. If DePodesta input Clady in his analytics algorithm, the results would be the equivalent of hitting the mine on minesweeper.

What are people's thoughts on Terron Beckham? He's non-draft eligible, so a team can sign him as a free agent.

I wouldn't be against signing him to the vet minimum with escalators for performance and seeing what he can do in pads. I think he could potentially be the big back Hue likes a la Jeremy Hill. If not, we could cut him.

That's an interesting story. I wish him luck. I think his biggest problem is he hasn't played college ball so there's nothing to base anything on but workout numbers. He could be on the 90 to get a look.

The Jets traded for Ryan Clady (and his contract) the same day D'Brickashaw Ferguson retired.

Players are more conscious of their future health now than they've ever been. Once you've made a certain amount of money, I think the risk/reward balance changes.

I think that's the case here. He hasn't missed a snap in 10yrs and has never been on an injury report.

"...Although he never suffered an injury, Ferguson had expressed concern about his well-being after football. He made headlines in December when he spoke candidly about the league-wide concussion issue, acknowledging it could affect how long he plays.

After seeing the movie "Concussion," Ferguson wrote a column for SI.com, saying he felt "betrayed" by NFL medical personnel who tried to downplay the long-term effects of concussions.

Referring to the extremely early retirement of former San Francisco 49ers linebacker Chris Borland, Ferguson wrote: "I thought perhaps he was acting very abruptly, but I now cannot fault him. If we know the risks, then why do we still play?"

I know the Patriots do things different than everyone else but that doesn't seem like a good enough reason because they are still paying him.

Then there is this:

Browns claim Jackson Jeffcoat
Posted by Zac Jackson on April 15, 2016, 5:31 PM EDT
Jackson Jeffcoat AP

The Browns were awarded defensive end/outside linebacker Jackson Jeffcoat via waivers from the Redskins on Friday.

Jeffcoat played in nine games over two seasons for the Redskins and alternated between the practice squad and active roster as a rookie in 2014. He had an interception and a sack in three games as a rookie and a forced fumble in six games last season.

He was placed on injured reserve last November and waived earlier this week.

Jeffcoat, 24, was the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year and Ted Hendricks Award winner in 2013 at Texas. He signed with the Seahawks after going undrafted and was cut in training camp.

Jeffcoat is the son of former Cowboys defensive end Jim Jeffcoat.

I have no clue who this guy is but let's inject the "other team's garbage" banner as if we're committed to him for the next three years. .

Jeffcoat was one of the highest rated recruits his senior year in high school. He was obviously very talented at some point.

With that said, he's probably not going to be any good.

i love guys with NFL families. That was part of the reason I liked Derek Carr. I will admit I was a big hater of his system and his ducking out of throws, but one of the draws for me was his NFL ready family.

It matters, if guys like Manziel or Gordon had the support system that guys like Carr and Jeffcoat have they would be all pros.
