You're talking about physical injury with the fireworks thing. That's never a good thing.

Resting a player/s for a game or 2, or even 3 or 4 is called "thinking ahead". In a good way.

Think of the last preseason nfl game. Or, think of an nfl team in week 17, with nothing to gain by winning, sitting some starters - for rest, and to prevent an injury.

arch............I was talking about the large number of players who were "shut down for the season," rather than a game or two. As in..........they won't play again this season.

I haven't really been following the basketball season. Who is shut down for the season?

A bunch of guys. Lopez, T. Young, Davis, Parson, Gallinari, etc

Almost all play on losing teams like the Nets, Pelicans, etc.

It's not a huge deal. I was just trying to start a brief conversation. There are two reasons why it bothers me a bit:

1. These teams will not be at full-strength when they face other teams and that can affect the playoff picture because they are now an easy win.

2. Gambling/fantasy. LOL.....I know that is a bit out there, but it's a huge business and these decisions change things around. There are millions of dollars on the line w/each game.

Again, the board was slow and I just decided to make a brief comment on it. It's not a big deal.

I'll be watching tonight's game for sure.

I'll be shocked out of my mind if we don't finish with a 1 seed. I just hope we finish it and rest guys.

Just to simplify:

Cavs win and Toronto loss to Atlanta does it.

That's sort of the point. They want to lose. It's how they tank without actually tanking, which is why teams have been doing it for awhile now. The Cavs did it with Irving and Varejao in those 2010-2013 seasons. Not only does it save your main guys from further injury, it gets you better draft position.

Kyrie is 10th all time in scoring for the Cavs.

Lebron resting again tonight...i really don't agree with the way Lue has handled rest...lock up the first seed then rest guys..now they are on a little bit of a roll and you rest lebron again? doesn't make sense to me..play him tonight, win, lock up the first seed then rest everyone the rest of the season.

I agree with this entire post from the top down. I haven't watched the games but I've talked and looked at highlights and the engine seems to pumping on all eight right now. Keep the vibe going and lock up that seed and then allow people to rest with a better mindset.

I'm already hoping they'll sit Kyrie soon. He's crumbling and it's not even passed the first quarter.

The #1 seed is not technically locked up, but it would take a catastrophic collapse for the Cavs to lose it.

In these situations one should ask: What would Popovich do?

Popovich would rest his guys and have them ready for the playoffs.

Sam Hinkie stepped down. He was forced out by Jerry Colangelo (who is going to hire his son as the new GM).

I think the NBA strongly urged the Sixers out of their tanking strategy.

The Sixers is actually a pretty good job (unlimited cap space, tons of draft picks, some guys with talent on the roster, etc.).

The NBA is too athletic to be doing lay ups on a fast break.

Good job Lue. Took a week of the team building confidence, getting in rhythm and looking better than any point this year and threw is straight in the toilet. This clown will not be the coach next year. At this point take kyrie out and just rest all of them

What pops would do is irrelevant. He's piloting a dynasty and a veteran team with many years together. We have a young, mentally fragile team. They need to be playing together as much as possible.

LeBron also needs rest. He is not a young guy anymore. Being healthy is the most important thing at this point.

Yeah you lock up the first seed and rest. Then you're resting everyone on a good note of having wrapped up the top seed. Now you don't have it locked up, love gets hurt, kyrie looks like garbage and you get blown out by a bottom feeder. Sorry that's not how I would do it. This pansy NBA now is just ridiculous.

Keeping your guys in peak physical condition is not "pansy." It is smart.

I know it is not a popular approach with the NBA, but I still wonder why you rest a star one night, then a different star the next game, etc.. if you are going to rest players and risk losing a winnable game, REST EVERYBODY. Just accept that you are going to give one game away and rest everybody...

Because on those nights when you rest one star, the other stars just try to work harder to compensate.. why do that?

Lue keeps telling everyone defense is a priority before each game, yet we get destroyed in that area.

It's been awhile after the coaching switch has been made, yet what good has come of it? What has changed?

I think Lead was against resting guys last year too iirc. It was mixed in with his rants about how Atlanta would destroy us last year.

Should be a really good game tonight between San Antonio and Golden State.

The Spurs did a great job of attacking Curry w/the on the ball defender well above the 3-pt line and funneling him into the center of the court where Aldridge would come out and take away the jumper and driving lane.

It will be interesting to see how that little game w/in the game plays out tonight.

You don't peak at the right time by never resting. Rest & recovery are every bit as important to performance as training & practicing.


Every athlete out there will take a down day in a nothing game versus being primed and ready for their Main Event. Who cares if they stretch it out another game or two?? They're going to clinch it, provided they feel it is what gives them the best match-ups to get to the ECF.

If Toronto loses tonight the Cavs just need 1 more win. Our next game is against a badly banged up Chicago team who might have nothing to play for.

That's not on the coach, that's on the GM and the owner... if the coach says sit and the player says no, who are they going to back?
