I apologize ahead of time for the length.
Today, I was in a house with new owners. Although, the house wasn't "new" to them. Turns out, the house was built 184 years ago, in 1832. And, it has been in the family ever since. Oldest house in Henry County that has been owned by descendants of the original owner. The house has never been outside the family. (the new owners - 7th generation)
Yup, there was a plaque hanging on the wall, from the county, verifying that fact. And beneath that was a very well done frame holding/containing the pictures of each person that had owned the house since 1832.
Amazing.
As I was working, I just couldn't help imagining...back to 1832. What it would've taken to build the house. The stories the house could tell. The lives lived in the house.
In the den, at some point in time, someone took off the plaster/dry wall, and you could see the timbers. The bare wood, cut from the site, back in 1832. Cool.
When I was done, I spent a fair amount of time talking with the couple. (they're about my age). Talking about the history of the home, etc. And then, they told me the man that built the home, Elijah Gunn Jr., was buried just across the road. (actually, across the road, and across the canal - the house is located off the Maumee river).
Cool. And then they told me Elijah's father, Elijah Sr., was buried there as well as a number of family members. AND.......Elijah Sr. had fought in the war. The Revolutionary war.
When Sr. got older, he moved into the house with his son and son's family. He died there.
Man, talk about a history lesson...........

Why I never did this sooner I'll never know. Went to my great, great, great grandma's (on my dad's side) burial site today. I've been past it a thousand times, but never knew she was buried there.
There were only about 6 tombstones. Apparently she was buried on the family farm. Someone's been looking out for her, as she had a new head stone.
Magdalene (Maude) Born in Switzerland in 1800, died in 1850. She married Christian while in Switzerland. Then in 1833 they came to the u.s. (her husband, Christian, moved to gratiot county michigan a while after her death, and he - my great great great grandpa, is buried there.)
Now, I need to dig a bit deeper. The family genealogy shows Maude was actually born in France.
And get this, just a mile east, one of her son's, Gottlieb, is buried. Haven't been there yet.
I say "one of her sons, Gottlieb" for 2 reasons: Christian and Magdalene had a son, Gottlieb, when they lived in Switzerland. He died at a young age, in Switzerlan. After coming to America, they 7 more kids, and the last one they named Gottlieb, again. When he was born, his oldest brother was 26.
Gottlieb had many kids, and one of his youngest was Henry. Henry had 8 kids, and his second youngest was Verden. Verden had 4 kids, one of them is my dad.
So yeah, even though Magdalene was born in 1800, and Christian was born in 1798 - they are only 3 "greats" away from me. Me, dad, grandpa Verden, Great grandpa Henry, Great great grandpa Gottlieb, and great great great Grandpa Christian. (who, believe it or not, was a pastor and a blacksmith).
Also, Christian's dad, Ulrich, was born and died in Switzerland.
Awesome day.
And no, I didn't do much of the digging for the genealogy. In fact, none of it, other than to find where Gottlieb was buried.

And today I went to my great great grandpa's burial site. Gottlieb - born here, in 1826. Died here in 1914.

I have no connection with my ancestry. Not by choice. It just worked out that way. Both of my parents are buried in Cleveland but I don't know where. Same with grandparents. They all died in the 60s and early 70s.
My older brothers and sister probably know. I wouldn't mind visiting the site(sites?) if I were in the neighborhood.

I won't be posting much anywhere but here - in the positive thread. (at least I hope so).
It's a double whammy out there. Politics, and the fact the browns stunk and are apparently preparing for another bad year, at a minimum. In politics, no matter what I say, I get smashed. That's fine. As for the Browns - it's argument after argument.
As for me, I'm going to try to be done with it all. Silly season.
Last night, Dummy the dog was having breathing issues. Wife was supposed to be going out with a friend to a cancer fund raiser.
Wife left, with the caveat that I and Sooga not leave Dummy if he didn't improve. Well, he did improve.
So, with wife gone, Sooga and I went out to eat. (I'd been invited to a friends house to watch basketball, but his daughter wasn't going to be home. And Sooga would've been there with 4 dads. Or, I could have left her at home.)
I decided to make it a dad daughter date night. We went out to eat. Dummy the dog was fine when we left, and he was fine when we got home.
When we got home, she did homework. I went to bed, she went to bed. Mom got home about midnight. We got up this morning - well, I did - and I woke mom up. She didn't think she'd go to church. I said fine, Sooga and I decided last night that if mom wasn't going, she didn't have to go.
We all 3 attended church.

My mom came home from the rehab/nursing home yesterday. Good Friday. That's good news. Only took a month Watched my daughter's team - or, the team she plays on - beat Notre Dame Academy this afternoon in softball. JV. They won 20-9. (Archbold) Sooga was 1-3. Nice double. Hit the ball well. Whole team did. The Varsity won as well, 7-1. NDA is a division 1 school. Nice to see our little podunk country hick girls beat a division 1 school. Maybe I'm biased?

today my wife and i are celebrating 8 years of marriage. Congratulations to your wife for putting up with you for that long. lol Seriously though, Congratulations to both of you. It is a wonderful accomplishment in today's "disposable" world. God has surely blessed you both in this regard.

Not such "good" news. Of the j.v.'s 9 softball games scheduled so far this year, they've only played 2. 7 have been cancelled due to weather.

Today started off bad. I woke up at 3am, stomach bubbling.
But now, after offering sacrifices to the porcelain God, some of my jeans fit better now.
So I consider that a positive

Troopers surprise 10-year-old boy when nobody shows up to his birthday party A 10-year-old boy in Arkansas said his heart sank when his mom sent 21 classmates invitations to his birthday party earlier this month, but nobody showed up. Two days later, the doorbell rang. A group of state troopers stopped by, and they brought cake. "They had come to give me all that stuff and make up their own birthday party for me," Toxey Ahrabli told KTHV. "I cried a little bit because they did that for me." At first, a few parents said their children would attend, Toxey's mom told ABC News. "We thought there were at least five kids coming," Angela Andrews said. But she told the news station one child fell ill, and the others were no-shows. She wrote about her son's grief on Facebook. Some state troopers noticed, and agreed the boy deserved a surprise party at his home in Hot Springs Village. Toxey said he was "scared and at the same time trying to figure out why they were here." But along with the cookie cake, they had gifts ranging from video games to a razor scooter. "They showed me all the keys to do the sirens and the horn. I also got to see the cage with the dog in it," he told KTHV. They also played a round of basketball. "Cpl David Forthman, along with Troopers Terry Sawyer, Kyle Sheldon, Brandon Cook, and Tim Callison are the reason we become troopers. We all want to make a difference," state police posted on Facebook. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2016/04/12/tro...ml?intcmp=hpbt4

Finally got a game in tonight. The j.v. beat Springfield (Holland, Ohio - outside of Toledo) 15-4. Sooga was 1-3. But the hit was a monster, over the right fielder's head for a stand up, bases loaded triple. (what's even better about that is that it was a stand up triple. She's not much of a sprinter.) Grounded out to third, and then got on on a fielders choice.
And, it was warm. At least, for how I dressed.

I also now realize why their varsity rolled ours, 11-0 in 5 innings. They were ranked #1 in the state in Division 1 last year.

I know many, if not most - and maybe ALL people - don't care about my daughter's softball. That's why I wasn't going to post anything about her games anymore.
But geesh - I have to tonight. Seems that triple in springfield gave her some confidence. (she told me, as she was standing on third in that game, the coach said "Sooga, I've been WAITING for that hit". And Sooga said "I just told her, so have I".
So, tonight, she goes 6-6. 5 singles and a double. That puts her at an even .500 for the season.

Going 6-6 is just incredible, at any level. Congratulations to her on a truly great game.

Pfft if they don't care... then they don't have to read.. I will admit I am a little jealous, not because of her success, that is very cool it's just that my son is a senior and through football, baseball, and track for 12 years it is all coming to an end... so you keep posting and even more so keep enjoying, My positive... Son came in first in district meet yesterday, in pole vault... on to area ( or regional) I get confused... will be hard to get out of that for state but hey ya never know. 3 first 2 seconds 2 thirds 1 fifth in 8 meets... we will take it.

Mom, after her broken femur (right below the ball joint) is now back to being able to walk with full weight on that leg. So that's good.
Dad, who's been doing the cooking for the last however long, is starting to get a bit irritated at mom because "she comes in the kitchen when I'm cooking and tries to correct me", so that's good.

Just remember that small pain in the back of your shoulder could be the implant she needs to track you Nah, she has drones tracking him. That small pain is the device she had implanted, so that if he does something he shouldn't ..... well .... I guess, legally, I shouldn't say any more .....

The positive thing is actually Saturday, I'm playing golf here: Mid Pines Golf Course The good news from today is that I went to the range and hit it really well and the weather is supposed to be perfect at about 70 and clear.

Hope you wore sunscreen. I was at a double header today. Gorgeous day, not a single cloud in the sky. 68 degrees. And? Sunburn on my arms. Daughter was 0-4 in the first game. BUT, she has really hitting the ball. It just happened to be directly at fielders. She had a 2 out, bases loaded wallop to right field. Back, back, back.......fielder caught it. Nothing but a long out. Went 3-4 in game 2. And best of all? I got some great pictures of her swinging! (finally remembered to take my camera).
