Yeah, the Gilbert thing is pretty bad. IMO, that falls mostly on Farmer, with a little on Pettine since the story was that he pushed for Gilbert as the prototypical CB. Farmer failed to do due diligence.

In general, I'm more sympathetic to Pettine, as he seemed to be a straight shooter (blunt, straightforward) when talking to the media. It's hard for me to truly determine his worth as a HC. Farmer seems to be a buffoon. I started neutral on him and started to sour quickly. At the end of his article he made a statement about how having a franchise QB is overblown, or something like that. I read that and thought to myself, "thank you for confirming my opinion, Ray". Pettine did enough himself to lose any sort of victim status, but man Farmer is an idiot. Good thing we locked him down before he got snatched away by Miami... wonder how many job offers were thrown at him when people heard he was back on the open market.

If they are still in business, Girls Gone Wild might be able to use him in some capacity.

Not if Ray's choices turned out to be transgender...

I would think that would be more well suited to Alex Scheiner than Farmer.

There's a cooking show where 4 or 5 chefs compete to make the best dish. Each one has to make the same dish using the exact same ingredients. As one of the compulsory ingredients they toss in something like gummy bears. So they're all trying to make a spaghetti dinner but have to incorporate the gummy bears into their recipe.

I feel something like that happened to Pettine. We're going to give you a chance to be an NFL head coach but you have to have Johnny Manziel in tow while you're trying to do it. Talk about a monkey on his back.

That was such a monster distraction every single day of Pettine's tenure of Browns HC. I felt more sorry for him as time went on.

I don't think you recognize the blame Pettine deserves for what happened with this team the past couple of years, but that certainly fine. There clearly was PLENTY of blame to go around for all in that FO/Coaching staff....but Pettine was very much an equal participant to the problems. He definitely was not the guy on the outside getting pooped on.

I won't blame Johnny on him, however.

Based on the way the defense was arranged and performed, I agree with you.

A defensive HC, running his system, with payroll that that D had the last couple years is totally inexcusable.

I'm also taking internally, draft influence, etc. He was a mess but, to his defense, not the only one.

That's why the change in staff was both football and business.

The whole stuff about the draft, I just kinda throw my hands up, admit we'll never know the whole story, and be happy that we have different people at the helm.

All I can say is that Farmer was the GM. (I don't blame Farmer for having Kruger in coverage all the time). Farmer's comments about WRs, and now QBs, and his lack of due diligence on Gilbert, reaffirm my opinion that he's a drafting buffoon.

Yeah, that show. Point I was making is Manziel was tossed in as that odd ingredient that could keep Pettine busy trying to figure out what to do with him and all the goof-offs and media sensation stuff.

I think Pettine will be a DC again. Farmer? Maybe some kind of executive. Maybe.

Pettine will find a job before Farmer.

Watching the draft I heard Daniel Jeremiah talking about Baltimore and their saying: "Play like a Raven" in the early 2000's....Sounds familiar. Pettine and Farmer should not ever get a chance in the NFL in any capacity..PERIOD!!!!

I will say I am glad for Pettine that he decided to chill for a year and collect his thoughts before he jumps back into the NFL. I wish more coaches would do that instead of jumping into the next gig.

Ray Farmer was on NFL network tonight talking about the draft. Made me sick. He's talking about how he would have done this, and another team shouldn't have done that..... Aaugh! < Charlie Brown word.

What the hell is NFLN thinking? If you want to know how to draft, ask Ray Farmer and DO THE OPPOSITE. He set this franchise back a long long way. I may not be digging everything the Harvard men are doing but I do know they have a plan. They are all in lock step. Refreshing after "Captain Ego" Ray Farmer.

If Jimmy O'Neil found a DC job, surely Pettine would've. Good for him for taking a year off and unwinding. Poor man has been through alot and probably had alot to try to vent off and release. Probably is still doing so, but least he's getting paid by us haha.

I am not saying Farmer drafted well but what most people don't realize is that 13 of the 18 guys we drafted in 2014 and 2015 are still on the roster right now. I wonder how that stacks up against the rest of the NFL. I am just guessing but I bet it's better than most folks think.

Most can be seen... riding the bench there on the sidelines. Ray Farmer on TV regarding football is an oxymoron to me. It just doesn't make sense. As someone said, I'd literally do everything opposite of his suggestions, no questions.

each new regime works diligently to purge guys that weren't their own picks. It's inevitable.

Most of the guys from Farmer's drafts will be gone within the next 18 months. The majority will likely be out of the league within 24.

Desir - Might stick

So 2 or 3 guys will stick from this draft, with 2 starters. If he hadn't so completely blown the Gilbert and Manziel picks, I think that we would look at tis as a solid draft.

2015:
Shelton - Starter
Erving - Possible starter
Orchard - Possible starter
Duke - 3rd down back
Xavier Cooper - Situational DL
Ibraheim Campbell - I think that he'll start
Mayle - Gone
Gaines - Maybe a backup
Malcolm Johnson - Could be gone
Telfar - Returning from season ending injury, Who knows if he fits or not
Pullard - Gone
Ikpre-Olumu - Gone

12 picks, and this draft demonstrates the value of having lots of picks. Farmer screwed up a lot, but he has 4 guys who could well start this year, and a great receiving back in Duke.
