Man being able to get Noah Spence right here, I would have never thought it was possible.

Jack is off my board and he was one of my guys. Hearing him say he might need micro fracture surgery. Feel bad for the kid, but I'm gonna pass.

Considering our roster is probably worst in the league and we basically did nothing in FA this year, lost alot in FA...I think alot of these picks will be around this year (barring injury and or suspension lol)

Exactly. Teams were reported to have asked him to sign a medical waiver. Apparently this wasn't done. No way I take him at #32. Let's just hope the bids roll in for that pick. Somebody is sure to overpay for it.

I don't want Cook here either. Pass rusher or another receiver. Need play makers.

i agree that all of the top picks will/should be here but not necessarily the lower picks. and the more we keep trading the lower the picks will be.

Druggie, don't care if he managed to stay okay for a year, no more druggie please. They never pan out, alas Armonty, Josh, Manziel and so on and so forth.

Exactly. Get A LOT or get your guy. Don't trade back and pick up a 4th or 5th to drop down in the 2nd.

I'd like Connor Cook here, but I don't get the feeling the Browns do. I heard Grossi on the radio saying he thought Hue likes Prescott at QB, and he should be available with one of the 3rd round picks. Other possibles at 32 are Derrick Henry, who could be Hue's Jeremy Hill, or maybe TE Hunter Henry, who would allow them to go 2 TE in red zone situations along with 3rd & short. Another possible is Michael Thomas, for more size at WR.

As you can tell, I'm thinking offensive skill positions in this round, where I think we're pretty weak.

A'Shawn Robinson. Only 21, led Alabama in sacks as a true freshman with the season starting a month after arriving on campus. Coming out as a true Junior. Didn't test the greatest at the combine, but dude's a football player and looks athletic on the field. We need better play up front on D.

We could go edge rusher, but the best one has red flags, and we've got a lot of ammo in what looks like a more loaded class next year at the position.

There is simply too much talent at positions of need to stay and draft a player at 32. I see about 10 guys all of whom I value about the same - so unless there is one guy the FO is set on - a trade makes the very most sense. But not more than sliding 8-9 spots.

I see a lot of love for Henry - and I get that he has high measurables. I just don't see the ability to find holes and creases like Duke or Elliot.Henry is an upgrade over Crow - but is he THAT much of a difference maker? I don't know ... I'd get behind the pick but I'd like him more a few spots lower.

At 32 - Dodd or Spence or Ogbah ... my preference.

I like: Cook - Henry - the two Bama DT's - Thomas - Ragland - McKensie - spriggs - Sterling Shepherd and the TE Hunter. . . be happy with just about any of them. . . .Jack seems like to much of a risk for teams who need players. I'll pass unless we can take him at 76/77

Well, I'm going out on a limb here, but a trade down several spots (and pick up another 3rd or 4th) and select Joshua Perry, OLB. I'm not really in favor of any more high profile trade downs, but this spot (#32) is very valuable and with another 10-20 players of somewhat similar quality/value, I'm at a loss as to BPA. Do we pick here for need?

Edit: Sorry mgh8...just read your post.

Just so I'm clear with this, we have the worst D for the last two yrs. & there is all kinds of top quality D prospects on the board & you want the 6-7 rated R tackle with the our pick?

We can't stop the run, we have no pass rush & our DB's are getting gashed & you want a RT with our 2nd. OK

How Ray of you. We will get a T, but not in this round 2 situation. With the quality of the defensive prospects left on the board, I be very disappointed if we didn't get a prospect that would make a real difference on defense.

Yeah lol I know what you mean...I'm sure some of our late picks will probably be stashed on PS or something; who knows. At #32 overall there's no bonafide surprise guy really there (like say Treadwell or Taylor Decker fell to #32...I would hope we ran up to the podium) If and only if we can obtain another 2nd rounder even if it's a later 2nd...ID trade out and drop several slots and look hard at WR, OT, Pass Rusher

After thinking it over, my top choice would be Robinson DT Alabama
Thick run stopper who can get some pressure on the Qb.

I would consider a trade down depending on the offer.

I would if it is a heck of an offer. Not really sure what that would be, though. I would drop a couple of spots for a 3rd, or a 2nd next year. In other words, if someone grossly overpays for it. Prefer to stand pat and get Spence or Dodd.

Haha @ "how Ray of you".

We lost two high caliber offensive linemen, obviously we have holes to fill. Obviously we have holes to fill across the board. Would you rather we let people run on our defense, or let people get clean hits on the qb? It usually has been the case the offense goes 3and out and the defense is gassed by halftime for the general part so.

With all that said, if they pick someone like Ashawn Robinson, it's not like I'll be bitter or upset. Just prefer to address a bigger weakness imo, oline protection.

We will address the OL/pass rushers in this draft. Lets let the plan run its course ... Before we start grabbing pitch forks.

None of the tackles left strike me as day one starters. They look like Cam Erving types. They could be good down the road, but have a long way to go technique wise. I'd rather draft a guy who can start right now in Robinson.

I'm hoping we draft David Morgan, a nice blocking TE and have him help Bailey/Whoever wins the competition at RT for now.

Wouldn't mind drafting a tackle later like McGovern or the big West Georgia project, but think they'll need some time.

I'd rather go one of the small school guys at OLB later. Ochi/Holmes or maybe Calhoun's age pushes him to the 3rd.

I'd be okay with Bell, but think our front 7 needs the help more. Mack Alexander would be okay, too.

I'm by far not educated/familiar with any of the oline men available as I'm just an OSU follower in terms of college realm. If the one guy, Spriggs, isn't someone we think can be plugged into RT, give me Robinson then. Or the best pass rushing linebacker.

Definitely!

Spriggs is a starter, I'm just not sure he is a starter at RT in a Power scheme. In a ZBS, yes, or at LT, but not a Rt in a power scheme I think. JMO of course.

I would love to get Ragland. He may only be a two down player but it's that run up the middle we can't stop...that's where he comes in.

In the third, if he's there, I can see us taking Cardale Jones. He wouldn't have to start and they can take time to groom him some.

I would like to see Derrick Henry at the top of the 2nd. I would love to pay the steelers back for 7 years of seeing bettis beat up our defense in the 4th quarter. This is a guy that gets stronger in the 4th, and loves to beat up defenses.

Bill Barnwell saying what I've been saying all off-season:

Quote:
It has been clear ever since free agency that the Browns are hellbent on acquiring as many draft picks as possible to rebuild their tattered roster, and they got off to a good start when they traded the second overall pick to Philadelphia for a bevy of selections. Now, another facet of their strategy is becoming clear: They're trying to exploit the league's conservativeness in devaluing future picks to extract better picks from teams in the future.

As I wrote about in discussing a Browns-Titans trade possibility for this pick before the draft, the common estimate for future picks is to treat them as one round worse than their listed value for each year you have to wait to use them; in other words, this 2017 second-round pick the Browns acquired would be considered as if it were a third-round pick by most NFL teams.

That's not an accurate measure. A second-round pick is a second-round pick.
Draft picks in the future are treated as if they're less valuable because the general manager trading the picks may not be around to actually use them, which represents part of the moral hazard incumbent with turning over your personnel department to employees who typically last a few years on the job. Future picks then realistically mean different things to different organizations. Les Snead and Jeff Fisher are probably going to get fired unless the Rams make the playoffs in 2016, which no doubt made it easier for them to trade future picks to move up to the first overall slot. Bill Belichick and Ozzie Newsome aren't going anywhere unless they want to move on, which is why they can trade for future picks with impunity.

All of this is to say that the new Browns braintrust -- Hue Jackson, Sashi Brown and former Los Angeles Dodgers general manager Paul DePodesta -- likely feels very confident that Cleveland won't be tearing things up very soon. The Browns are stockpiling picks for the future and getting bigger returns because of it. Tennessee probably would have preferred to deal one of their four picks between 33 and 64 to move up from 15 to eight; indeed, had they packaged the 15th and 48th picks, it would have represented 1,470 points of trade value on the traditional chart, right in line with the eighth overall pick, which is worth 1,400 points. Most teams in the league would have gone for that swap.

Instead, the Browns will wait a year and pick up a second-rounder in next year's draft for their troubles. The conservative way to value that pick would be to treat it like an "average" selection, which would be, coincidentally, the 48th pick. Reduce that pick and realize that by deferring their primary compensation for a year, the Browns were able to improve their sixth-round pick by 100 slots, moving up from 176 to 76. That's a pick with 10 times the value of the one the Browns traded on the traditional chart. Ten times!

Their 2017 draft is shaping up to be a mammoth endeavor. Keep in mind that the Browns now have two first-rounders (their own and one from Philadelphia), two second-rounders (their own and Tennessee's), and as many as four fourth-round picks (their own and up to three compensatory fourth-round picks from losing free agents this offseason). After accounting for the fifth-rounder they sent Philly next year as part of the deal, a reasonable estimate is that those extra picks they've acquired are worth 34 points on the Stuart chart; that's right in line with the first overall pick, which is worth 34 points on its own. Plus, the Browns still have their picks (minus fifth- and seventh-rounders) in 2017, and it's not as if they're going to be good next year.

Cleveland could have as much draft capital in 2017 as any team has had in any one draft in recent memory. The Browns still have to hit on those picks, but they're putting themselves in an enviable position in terms of draft capital. (They'll also have an extra second-round pick from the Eagles to work with in 2018.) And they still managed to come out of the first round with Corey Coleman, a player at their biggest position of need, wide receiver.

I eventually had to agree to disagree with on of my Steeler buddies. He is of the mindset that the value IS diminished when it's delayed. Maybe, but only if your team is trying to win a championship IMO.

Exactly. Diminished my ass. Never agreed with that BS.

Tell me that next year when our #1 from Philly, which is thought of as a 2nd rounder comes inside the top 15. lol.

Yep, Bill Belichick laid the blue print ... how to posistion ones team for drafting team needs. The extra picks can give you that same flexibility in the future to trade up.

It is devalued for a coach but not for the team if that makes sense. You dont fix areas of need immediately then u get Chud fired.

It is devalued for a coach but not for the team if that makes sense. You dont fix areas of need immediately then u get Chud fired.

I don't know if it is smart or not, but the guys running the team right now are making moves with the confidence that they will be here awhile. That is a good thing.

Edit: I don't know if it's smart because our owner has shown he has an itchy trigger finger, not because I don't think it is the right strategy. I think we have done everything exactly perfect so far with regards to the draft.

We would only be giving up two selections ... What would it take in compensation?

Why not? We're the fleece mobile again this year.

My guess is we drop out of the second round, but get a 2017 first round pick.
