Just remember somebody gave up A LOT to move up those 6 spots to take Conklin ironically at #8 - so it wasn't a far fetched draft idea for us OL nuts, of course who knew Tunsil would be there but that Bong hit from years ago killed him!

Alrighty then, pats on the back! Now, do you want to venture into rounds 2 and 3 with your picks? Or are you going to sit on your laurels...

Curious to know their thoughts on Coleman over Treadwell.
After 55 years, I'm walking away from this dumpster fire. Good luck to everyone who continues to hang on. You'll need it.

It looks like Coleman is fast but can play physically with the defender. I'm liking the pick more and more.

2 for 2 would be a nice feeling for you. Dodd Spence or your guy Correa...actually lots of good guys at 32...last OT Spriggs, FS in Bell there. 6 possibly pass rushing OLB! Jack maybe the best guy in this draft?

Seeing as I was following the draft on a tablet last night, my first reaction was, 'great, another midget WR'. Today after watching highlights, I like this pick a lot more. With 4.3 speed and his leaping ability, this kid will surprise some DBs. If a DB misplays him at the LOS, this kid is gone.

I am okay w/what the Browns did.
The top impact players that I wanted were gone. Hargreaves was an option for me at 8, but we got a pretty good deal to move down to 15.
I predicted that Coleman would be the first WR taken due to his speed. He's dynamic. A true playmaker and the Browns desperately need that.
I don't get the Antonio Brown comparisons at all. Coleman isn't a good route runner. Brown is a great route runner. In fact, my biggest concern is Coleman's route running.
The Browns still need a larger WR to help in the red zone and in short yardage situations. Maybe Michael Thomas. Actually, in college that was one of the knocks on him was that he was a poor route runner. He actually posted one of his scouting reports from another team. He turned out to be a pretty good route runner in the NFL though.

Let's just hope that Coleman is printing off a clipping of Dawgtalkers forum reviews to hang in his locker for motivation and later post to twitter a few years down the road.

I think RG3's deep ball loves this pick.
I'm curious how much Coleman can round out his game. He has a couple deficiencies from college that are easily explained away (routes and blocking). It'll be fun to see how he progresses. I am in agreement with people that say we have the right coaches in place for this kid.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

After watching some videos, this kid looks like he could jump and land on the moon if he wanted. The lack of height becoming a lesser concern when you freaking leap like that. Physical too!

Nice info ... I like to go back and read some of those old scouting reports ... makes you wonder how some ever worked out, given how the negotiatives are described.

Hey - we got probably the best playmaker out there. When Mayock said think Percy Harvin...less than a minute after the pick. Was when I stopped sulking and went really!! As mentioned I didn't bother to look at the group until further down the draft board. When I learned more about him and Davis and DJ two guys I like about the draft. Had him as their #1 WR. I'm wondering why our WR experts on this board didn't have him there. Not sure who the WR experts are on here, but my preference for Treadwell over Coleman comes from: 1) Treadwell wins all contested balls, Coleman is more 50/50. 2) Treadwell has better size and uses it well to shield defenders from the ball. Long corners reach around Coleman and affect the pass. Not projecting, it's already happened in his college games. 3) Treadwell is a fierce blocker, sometimes taking two guys out of the play. Coleman has essentially zero experience blocking. Now, as I said, I had Coleman as the third receiver in the draft (#15 on my big board) so there are things I like about him. 1) He gets open at will. Extremely sharp cuts. That projects well to becoming a good route runner. Also, he is fast, but I think the speed disparity between he and Treadwell narrows significantly with the pads on. 2) Very good moves with the ball in his hands to extend YAC. I'm not unhappy with the pick. It could have been a lot worse. I am disappointed they decided to go with Coleman over Treadwell and it is giving me a (probably unfair) concern that they evaluate players the same was as PFF (who had Coleman as their #1 WR). I, like you LOVED what we got out of the trade. I don't think I would have had the balls to ask for all of that from TEN. CLE: 8 (1400) & 176 (20.6) = 1420.6 TEN: 15 (1050) & 76 (210) + 2017 2nd rounder = 1260 + 2017 2nd rounder That's an amazing deal for us. Basically getting a 2017 2nd rounder for the equivalent of #86 in this draft. AND all the WRs were available at that spot. I would have been ecstatic if they would have taken Treadwell at 15, used that 76 paired with 32 to go get Doctson (Jets would definitely have taken that deal), have the WR position solved with (IMO) the top 2 wideouts in the draft PLUS 65, 77, 99, 100, and the rest of the picks. Oh well.

The more I think about it, the more I come to terms with this fact. The tall WR's weren't fast and the Fast WR's weren't tall in this draft. That's why you didn't see one until 15 and I can't blame Hue for wanting fast.

Oh well. After trading out of pick 2 i allowed myself to once again venture into the thought of coming out of the1st round with one of the top 3 WR's ... I also knew we would not take one @ 8. I liked Coleman and he also happened to be 15 on my board, but after years of passing up on good WR's in the draft i will say that i would have been happy with any of the top 3 (Doctson, Treadwell or Coleman). Im not as high on Fuller. btw ... I have always valued your opinion on the position Steve.

That's a cute quote, but watch Treadwell knock multiple guys on their butts on the same play in his games at Ole Miss. Competitiveness is not a reason to take Coleman over Treadwell.
FWIW, Gil Brant, who was scouting for the Cowboys when they drafted Michael Irvin, said Treadwell reminds him of Irvin.
Again, I don't dislike Coleman, but it could have been a home run with Treadwell and instead we hit a double. A lot better than a sac bunt or a strikeout.

I don't know diddly about these guys .... Not a huge fan of WR's that have trouble catching the ball ... Apearantly this dude has that problem .... Hopefully it's technique and not hands of stone ....
Just wondering .... Do treadwell and the other dude that was an option here have drop issues? .....

I don't think that Hue sees it the same way you do. He wanted a guy who could take the lid off the defense and was dynamic with the ball in his hands. Treadwell does not compare from what I have seen of both of them, of course that is very limited sample for me to judge by, but I trust that those guys knew what they wanted and needed and Treadwell did not measure up.

May as well follow up with the more important questions .... FOR THOSE THAT HAVE WATCHED HIM ....
Is he a body catcher? .... Just bad technique if he uses his hands? ... Concentration issues? .... Can he be "taught" to catch /// does he have soft hands? ...
Those who have SEEN HIM please let me know your thoughts ...
CleveSteve - what's your take ... Does he have the tools to learn how to catch? ...

Would have been more, but his QB was injured and his production dropped. How many of his 10 drops can be attributed to this I can't say for certain. Also he had IIRC the most targets of this years class.

Coleman wasn't my top WR either but my top 3 WRs were very close.
P's = Speed, quickness, burst, explosion, strength, ultra competitive run after the catch.
C's = Has some drops (not that big an issue for me), limited route tree, not a 'hands' catcher doesn't pluck the ball, mirror blocker only
In my view Corey's skillset allows him to contribute right away. AND he works on his weaknesses. IF Corey is coachable and has a good work ethic he can improve through coaching. Corey meet Juggs machine. Corey meet Brian meet Corey. I would make it clear to Hartline that we expect you to take this kid under your wing and coach him up on routes. I'm sure Griffin will reach out to him to put in work. I would also make his develop a personal pet project for Al Saunders (maybe?) or some experienced offensive coach.

I don't put a ton of stock in combine numbers, but one thing I think is important for WR's is their vertical leap and 40.5 " is pretty impressive.

I don't know how to answer your question satisfactorily, but there was one play they kept showing against West Virginia where he cradle caught the long ball and the CB got his arm in to contest it, rather than him go up and snatch the ball. I hate cradle catching... that's the easiest way to get the ball ripped out.

I was honestly amazed that Shaq Lawson had fallen to us and felt pretty sure he would be our pick.
At #15 if Coleman ends up being an impact player for us, then he was a great pick. I have always worried about drafting a WR with questionable hands. No matter their measurables and abilities, dropping passes kill drives. It's also very rare that I've seen WR's come out of college and suddenly have better hands.
As quick as his feet are and as athletic as he is, I don't believe improving his route running will be an issue. I won't knock the kid for not showing an ability he was never coached to do in that O he was in.
He does have burner speed and is a pretty physical kid with great athletic abilities. If his questionable hands don't come back to bite us, I believe he will have been a good pick.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Some teams were worried about Lawson's shoulder. (I don't know if we were one of those teams.) Bills DE Shaq Lawson said he doesn't need shoulder surgery. At least 6 teams said they believe he will need shoulder surgery at some point. https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/726020471397998592
