..... I like the fact he wasn't recruited, and turned into a top 65 pick....shows his work ethic and toughness imo...... Very good point, he's hungry.

so... we drafted Rudy LOL
seems raw with lots of potential Yup. Likely not a Day 1 starter. Lots of potential, but my main concern is in looking at that highlight video, most of it was cuts from games against Temple and Buffalo..... he's not going to get those scrubs in the AFCN. Love the fact that he has a real serious work ethic, though.... he's gonna need it.
Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.

Looks like we'll be getting after the QBs. I was just going to post the same thing. I hope we do, that's for sure. I also think that Kruger and/or Des Bryant are history. Kruger perhaps. Bryant is our other DE. You really need two.

That's an extrene stretch. Eve was just trying to be positive, hopeful. Maybe he will be our JJ. Yes, I am having fun. :-) We need a pass rusher who can make an impact. Hopefully this is him. :-) Well, I hope that you're wrong. I hope he winds up making Watt look like a sick 6 year old girl by comparison.

Hughes could easily be our other DE. I seem to recall that Horton really liked him when he was here.

I'm wondering whose going to be at nose. I would think it'll be Shelton. Yeah, you're probably right. I was thinking he might play end.

I figured they were both OLB and that made me happy. I'm concerned if they actually aren't sure what position to play him. He had a good 10 yard split at the combine like 1.65 or something.

I liked that big gary made the pick. I was thinking how funny it would be that he had to announce a tightend that would replace him
I`m good with Baker... Playoffs is good enough for me.

I came to the same conclusion. Now it's looking pretty crowded @ OLB. Mingo is sure to be unhappy with these picks.

Get this kid in the gym, have him do a lot of squats, deadlifts etc. Powerlifting... get him on a pro style nutrition program and he will easily gain 15 or more pounds of muscle by fall. Plug him in at DE and don't look back.

I think he will cut his teeth as a situational pass rushing DE, but with the ability to be used with hand on the grown (wide 9) or standing up. He said in his conference call that he was asked to drop into coveage on occation.

Sure if you want a DT playing out of position never getting push, never getting pressure on the QB then he's our DE. Woo hoo. Another year of having a DE that does nothing but "eat blocks". Sounds awesome. THIS is why I wanted a real DE. I am tired of getting nothing at all out of that position. One of the two DE's we just drafted ought to be groomed to play DE. Not asking a lot.

Well "dropping" in coverage at DE in college is a whole lot different than covering a TE downfield as a linebacker in the Pros. Or going one on one with a RB in space..... It's a lot easier for him to bulk up a bit and play DE. But we will see. Someone has to. As you can tell I;m not a fan of shoving some DT out there and getting nothing at all from the DE position. I hate that and we've done nothing but that for the most part since Romeo brought the 3-4 to town. We have Bryant and then no one. Cupboard is bare. We at least have a number of bodies at OLB.

He will need to add some more weight if he is to be a full time DE ... I can't remember, but I don't think that JJ Watt was much bigger when he was drafted.

Not all defenses, especially 3-4 defenses, have both DE just rearing back and going all out after the QB. Generally speaking, the R and L DE are often different types in the 3-4 as well, with one having more pass rush, and the other being more of a guy who holds the line. (more akin to a 4-3 DT) In fact, the 3-4 and 4-3 are almost blurring together, with there being one DE who is like a DT, and the blitz rusher taking the place of the 4-3 DE. (only he can be moved all over the field) I like the moves we made today, and we do still have Des Bryant, and also we have Cooper who can also possibly fill that rush DE role in the 3-4 as well.

Horton is sending people constantly and it takes an extreme amount of energy to rush the passer over and over. We will rotate the hell out of people the best guys just wont rotate as often but they are gonna keep fresh bodies coming. probably spells the end of Armonty in Cleveland.

Dude is super Raw, I think that's a word🤔 My buddy is a Penn State freak and claims in 2 years this guy will be 290 and a terror on passing downs. He is legit 6'7 and has moves of a much smaller guy.

Watched him vs OSU. Here's my take:
- maxed out player, not much upside left - effort and work ethic are evident. If he fails in the NFL it won't be because of that - that said, I just don't see much talent. Not quick, ZERO moves the entire game. He basically just tries to run his way to the QB. Doesn't play smart. - lost the edge more than once and Zeke got big gains. I know it's OSU and Zeke, but this is the kind of talent he'll face in the NFL...so - had a stretch of nice 2-3 plays but was a complete non factor the rest of the game. Got two gimme hustle sacks with Cardale running around. Good example of why college stats are worth crap. On paper this probably looks like a big game, but on tape he was abused on a play by play basis
I see a rotational DL at best. Holds his own vs the run, but doesn't see the ball well and gets fooled a lot.

On tab's OLB/3-4 thread, I wrote this about Nassib: --Carl Nassib: Played DE at Penn St, but will probably be best suited to a 3-4 OLBer. Tall.....almost 6'7". He had 15.5 sacks last year. Former walk-on. Didn't do much before last season. Many like his upside. He's a guy that can beat you quick, but if he is engaged right away, he is pretty bad and I saw him on the ground quite a bit. You might be able to get this guy in round 3 and use him as a situational pass rusher. So, I think this is yet another decent pick by the FO. After this pick was made, I told my son that this is the most satisfied I have been w/a Brown's draft in longer than I can remember. That was before the next pick was made, of course. But, that's not quite fair. I am happy w/what the Browns are doing in this draft for the most part.

So we are constantly trying to build the DL and constantly coming up short. Why no LBs? Sorry but other than the first round pick I am not at all impressed with the positions or the talent that we got. We'll see I guess.

I was under the assumption both DEs drafted will become OLBs in our base scheme. Perhaps I'm wrong.

I think people keep forgetting that last year NFL defenses were in nickel packages almost two/thirds of the time. That percentage has increased in each of the last 8 years.
The days of classifying guys as just 3-4 guys or 4-3 guys and as only DE's or OLBers are coming to an end in the NFL. Now, if only the media and fans can catch up.
Nassib should be a good situational pass rusher for us.

Said he expects him to provide "interior push" on the defensive line. Also said Ogbah will be added to the OLB corps.

Maybe everyone knows this, but Nassib is the brother of that Syracuse QB the Giants drafted a couple of years ago. Means little, but is interesting.

I was a really big fan of this kid in the draft. He was one of the guys I kept selecting when I did those silly mock draft sites. Here is some analytics on him.
