Big 10 fans will be happy ... I think he's a good fit

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

Love this kid.
Fluid athlete, versatile- was an outside rusher in college, good instincts, good in coverage, hits with pop, aggressive

My guess is they'll move him to ILB as thumper ILB that has range

I like this pick quite a bit.

We signed Denario Davis at ILB .... but I am not a big fan of that signing. I hope that Schobert can send Davis to the bench relatively soon.

I know one thing, if I were Kruger or Mingo I'd be looking at real estate agents

He's the Erving of defense. Does a little bit of everything, but really nothing well.

Smart and good path to the ball, but contact shy. Look smore like a 4-3 OLB to me. Nickel-LB.

So far the Browns have drafted a bunch of role players and future backups....

Kid made some highlight hits but I love the fact that you rarely see him make the mental mistake. Folks this overpaid underachieving defense is getting a serious overhaul at backer and DE. It was needed. We are moving towards a sleeker faster front 7 with the big ass anchor in the middle.

Hopefully since he says he plays under control...we will have one linebacker who controls his gap, since noone else does lol

Not a good form tackler though. More of an arm tackler, throwing himself to the feet of the carrier. He's not physical. Too finesse for a LB. Reminds me of a less athletic Kirksey

From PFF:

Round 4
1 (99). Cleveland Browns: Joe Schobert, LB, Wisconsin

Schobert was identified as one of our top-10 sleeper picks for the draft. He had the third-highest grade of any edge player in the class, but his size might force him to inside linebacker for the Browns. One of the best block shedders in the class.

Love Joe Schobert. Finds the football and attacks. He's a Shea McClellin clone.

PFF scouting report: Joe Schobert, LB, Wisconsin

Mike Renner and the PFF draft analysts break down the play of Wisconsin's Joe Schobert ahead of the 2016 NFL draft.

PFF Analysis Team | 4 weeks ago
Below is the PFF draft profile for Wisconsin’s Joe Schobert, which incorporates PFF’s college grades and scouting intel from our team of analysts. To see all of PFF’s 2016 scouting reports, click here.

Position fit:
3-4 outside linebacker or 4-3 strongside linebacker

Stats to know:
22.7 pass rushing productivity was the highest in the country; 13 missed tackles on 60 attempts

What he does best:
– Slips off blocks left and right. Is extremely active with his hands
– Explosive turning the corner and closing on stunts
– Fantastic bend on the edge. Can dip his shoulder and maintain leverage on tackles
– Flashed lateral agility to cover running backs at the Senior Bowl
– Very disciplined keeping contain. Only sheds back inside when he knows he can commit

Biggest concern:
– Undersized to play on the edge. Lacks length or weight that teams require to play that position. Could get swallowed up by NFL tackles
– Questionable whether he has the strength to set the edge against NFL tackles. Rarely takes blocks into the backfield and was seldom effective with a bull rush
– A good number of his pressures came unblocked off of stunts or against backs and tight ends
– Failed to finish far too many tackles

Schobert's role grew each season, from reserve as a true freshman to key reserve (24 tackles, one start) in 2013 to consensus honorable mention All-Big Ten pick (13.5 tackles for loss) in his junior year. His draft stock rose to new heights in 2015, as he was named second-team All-American by USA Today and the Associated Press, as well as the Big Ten Linebacker of the Year and first-team All-Conference. He finished among the nation’s leaders in sacks (9.5) and tackles for loss (19.5), displaying the strength and motor to earn a spot in the NFL.

Pro Day Results
Vertical: 35 1/2 inches
Broad jump: 9 feet, 7 inches

Analysis

Strengths Very productive over his two years as a starter forcing six fumbles, recovering three, defending 10 passes and adding an interception as well. Slippery in his movements using good hip and upper body turn. Can get skinny and slide through gaps and around corners. Excellent with his hands helping him compensate for lack of play strength. Discards tight ends fairly quickly. Sees through blockers and into backfield maintaining sight on the ball. Can trim edge as rusher with shoulder dip. Assignment-oriented in coverage making sure to redirect tight ends and receivers before dropping into space. Adequate man cover skills. Plays with plus balance and is rarely on the ground. Quality special teams cover man.

Weaknesses Doesn’t possess the overall size or length NFL teams look for on the edge. Lacks quick twitch and bend to alter his path suddenly. Forced to make tackle attempts from tough angles due to average athleticism. Rarely bodies up and struggles to finish as a tackler with 18 missed tackles over last two seasons including 10 this year. Lacking strength to set a strong edge. Will get blown off of his spot by tackles. Not a menacing one-on-one pass rusher. Average burst upfield. Much of his production as pass rusher comes from twists and extended plays. Below average play speed.

Draft Projection Rounds 3 or 4

NFL Comparison Jermauria Rasco

Bottom Line Some teams covet traits while others are mindful of production. Schobert won't excite any teams with his physical traits, but he has a way of finding the football and filling up a stat sheet. Schobert's lack of length and edge strength will make it tough for him to find a home as a 3-4 outside linebacker, but his instincts might give him a chance as a WILL linebacker in a 3-4. Regardless, his work on special teams will definitely improve his stock.

I think that he has a chance to start at ILB, beside Kirksey.

Not many people realize that Kirksey had 3.5 sacks from the ILB spot last year. That's really solid for a "cover" guy. Schobert is a much more accomplished pass rusher, and I think that he will be a nice fit beside Kirksey, and will also up the unpredictability factor when we blitz. We could have 4 LB who are all capable to very good pass rushers. Schobert sheds blocks very well, and uses his hands well.

I really like this pick, and I think that he will be a starter inside sooner rather than later.

Anyone remember the two LBers we drafted back around 2005 or so.......Nick Speegle and forget his first name...McMillian?

Man, the board was gushing over these guys. Speegle was going to be a terror. Steals of the draft.

Yep.

That doesn't have anything to do with this particular player though.

I don;t recall ever gushing over Speegle, personally. In fact, I seem to recall not being all that excited about the pick.

Impressive...a bona fide football player...go figure and at LB. Sorry Tank and Solomon you guys got to really step it up an edge. I like when they say...he's the best guy on the field...and we got him wink

So far maybe one of the best drafts we had since 99. Of course I'm sure we will get the usual complaints...lol

I like the foundation I want to see them in 3 years and what we bring the next 2! Man a plan and no Vikieune's
