As a matter of fact. Devil, can't you report things to other states?

Let them know I'm smoking weed. Hell, tell them I'm doing it right now.

I'm in the act of doing something illegal. I'll give y'all the address and all

Man, I could, but it ain't worth the paper work. Or having my feelings hurt when the cops up there tell me how stupid I am for calling them over such BS...

It's not ancient history. It is living proof of what happens when our government bans and makes substances illegal. Death is a bi product of forcing things on the black market.

Surely you comprehend how the manufacturing and distribution of alcohol made that process deadly when it was illegal by inviting the criminal element into the process.

Now comes the choice. Do you blame the people consuming the weed or the government keeping it illegal. That's really the only viable discussion point here.

While I don't think much of stoners, as a Libertarian I feel the government should not be telling us what we can and can't do with our bodies. If people want to ruin their life by being a drug addict, that's their choice.

While I agree with that premise, by that same reasoning I don't think I should be forced to pay for that same addict's rehab. If their drug use is none of my business, then neither should the consequences.

j/c...

A couple questions I saw through the thread..

In regards to their drug involvement and people knowing about it being such a small town. I don't know how rural that area is, but it could be possible that while the locals would know about it, law enforcement either a) wouldn't because there could be so few cops/deputies/troopers out that way OR the fuzz knew about it, but being rural, wouldn't have the resources for that level of investigation. Even Andy and Barney could barely deal with 3 guys at a time selling soap...

MExican/ South American cartels... I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss this angle, especially if this family were decent sized meth makers. Over the last couple years a lot of meth and heroin have been coming in from across the border. They could have viewed this family as competition, or maybe this family came up short on their end of the deal? In any event, this level of carnage would fit the general MO.

I wonder what your thoughts are about the current system of dealing with social ills that are being thrust upon our courts presently?

Do you feel money would be better spent by drug counseling or rehab, or imprisonment when it comes to addiction? Also I wonder about how you feel about the mentally ill being forced into the prison population?

I guess the bottom line is that currently we are spending a lot of money housing inmates that are there due to drug issues and mental illness. I'm just wondering if you feel taxpayers would be better served and a greater success rate would be accomplished through rehab and mental health options?

Do people in prison have health insurance? I have no idea. If you pay into health ins or medicare then you should receive mental health coverage.

My only issue with that is that criminals are using their drug habits as excuses for committing crime and are catching breaks and getting rehabs, over and over again. While someone who doesn't have the excuse of drugs, gets hammered

Google: ohio cost of incarceration

"For FY 2012, the average cost to incarcerate an inmate in an Ohio prison was $24,870 per year, or $68.14 per day. Security, which includes the supervision and control of inmates, typically consumes the largest portion of these costs at around 40%."

A dreary day in Piketon.

I wonder if Ohio Attorney General DeWine is still vowing to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Is the Attorney General considered the "top cop"? (my words).

This is the kind of case where forensics really has to save the day. It takes place at night, nobody sees the Purp and lives to tell about it, and he's long gone by now.

To make it worse it's gristly multiplied X eight. There's no one in Piketon used to this kind of carnage. The overwhelming magnitude of the horror involved can cause their minds to operate at less than optimal until the shock wears off. Arriving first on the scene, right when they needed to be thinking their clearest, their minds were swimming in the sea of bloodbath they ran into.

These ain't New York City Major Case detectives who've seen it all before. These are country men who are just finding out for the first time, outside of a book, just how depraved humanity can be.

Sometimes I doubt if this will ever be solved unless forensics can pull some helpful clues out of it.

I think that's happened before too. Whatever happens the good guys are going to need something like that to solve this case.

I was just thinking the same thing. This seems professionally done, and I haven't heard any new news about who might have been the shooter(s).

Quote by Ohio State Attorney General Mike DeWine regarding the Piketon massacre shortly after the murders: "In my opinion, it will be solved…”

DeWine is a career politician who came-off as a bungler in this case.

If this case goes unsolved, and if more details aren’t released, I hope Ohio voters kick DeWine out when he comes up for reelection in 2018.
