i'm starting to wonder if people on this board actually know what leadership is.

Those that served - definitely. No matter which branch, what you did, or who you worked for, or when, or in which theater... you absolutely got to see at least one (and likely many) examples of what real leadership is. Guaranteed.

The rest, yours guess is as good as mine.

word bro.

and here's the thing: i simply want people to set the criteria for what they think leadership is.

i understand that the topic is subjective. we all( i hope) get that.

but right now it seems to me people want the putin/stalin style of leadership on this board.

and i thought we was a democracy. because the style of government affects the style of leadership needed.

i dunno if some people understand that or not.

That would be a pretty long list of criteria.... because leadership is different things at different times.

Sometimes leadership is picking up your sword and leading your followers into battle, sometimes it's showing them diplomacy is the answer... sometimes its getting in a guys face and demanding that he be better the next time, sometimes it's pulling him aside and teaching him what he did wrong... sometimes it's standing alone on principal even if very few are willing to stand with you, sometimes it's working to build consensus among a large group.... sometimes it's demanding your people to work longer and harder, sometimes it's buying a case of beer and making them take an evening off to relax...

The key to true leadership is knowing when to apply the many nuances of being a leader...
