Ray Farmer was on NFL network tonight talking about the draft. Made me sick. He's talking about how he would have done this, and another team shouldn't have done that..... Aaugh! < Charlie Brown word. What the hell is NFLN thinking? If you want to know how to draft, ask Ray Farmer and DO THE OPPOSITE. He set this franchise back a long long way. I may not be digging everything the Harvard men are doing but I do know they have a plan. They are all in lock step. Refreshing after "Captain Ego" Ray Farmer. 13 of the 18 guys we drafted in 2014 and 2015 are still on the roster right now. ...not for long based on metrics and personas.

Slow time of year. Not much going on. Then I read where Farmer talks about how the Browns were unprepared for the celebrity of Manziel.
What a yo-yo.
Farmer more than likely will never get another chance at being a GM. One reason is; he just does not "get it".
It has nothing to do with him as a person. He may be a great guy. It is all about his judgement and vision.
When he completed his first draft I ran a post and stated he was either incompetent or weak. Weak for giving into the "pressure" to draft Manziel if he believed otherwise or incompetent for selecting Manziel in the first round.
It was not a popular post at the time. People wrote "how could a make that statement etc."
Well just listening to him now makes it all clear. He was clueless about how to build a team and lacked the understanding of how to vet players. His approach also was one of arrogance. Like he had all the answers and nobody else did. The texting episode proved the point.
Maybe he will do well in his new career. If not maybe he should try sheep herding.

I wish he'd just take some accountability.
Okay, we get it, Manziel wasn't your selection.
But what about Gilbert? Shelton? Erving? Lack of playmakers?

Ray Farmer is a bright ray of good ole fashioned stupidity. We became a better team they second he was terminated.
The biggest question I have is, how is this dude getting television and air time? He's been one of the worst gms the league has seen. Espn trying to be funny or something?

Ray Farmer: Browns needed to be ready to handle Manziel’s celebrity
The G.M. who drafted Johnny Manziel says his team should have been ready for the unique challenges associated with bringing in a rookie who’s already a superstar. Former Browns General Manager Ray Farmer said today on ESPN that an NFL team that’s going to draft a player who’s already famous even before he arrives needs to be ready to deal with the fallout from that, and he suggested that the Browns weren’t ready. “The club has to be prepared to handle the player regardless of their celebrity, regardless of their position, regardless of what they’re required to do,” Farmer said. “The responsibility is born by both the club, and the player. When the club doesn’t follow up on its end, it makes it that much easier for players to get off track.” Farmer said Manziel had celebrity status stemming from his days at Texas A&M, and the Browns hadn’t seen a rookie with that kind of fame. “It’s celebrity. . . . This player had unique celebrity that I don’t think the league has seen,” he said. “That brings a whole new element of how you try to handle the person.” Manziel is now out of the league and facing accusations of a litany of off-field issues, ranging from domestic violence to excessive drinking to trashing a house he rented. “I’m concerned for the person more than I am the player,” Farmer said. If the person doesn’t get help, he’s done being a player. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/201...iels-celebrity/

The more time goes by and the more I see Farmer saying stuff like this, the more I think Manziel WAS his pick. I know the popular and cool kids all think it was Haslam, but I've never been totally convinced of that.

I think it was one of Pettine'S interviews where they had either Carr or Garrapollo up there as the top QB they could get..
And then the conversation just kept swinging towards Manziel.. not that he was better.. but clearly some people pushed Johnny over guys "we" thought were more talented.
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?

There may be things within a football organization that Ray Farmer is very good at, there almost has to be for him to rise to the level of GM. But some folks are never meant to be the top dog, the guy who provides the vision, the guy who has final say.. that job isn't for everybody and there is nothing wrong with that.
I hope he drops back and finds his niche where he can succeed and stays there and is happy. He just doesn't seem like GM material after watching him for a couple years.

Farmer is a big joke around the NFL. He was so out of touch on how to draft and was porous In his free agent signings He did a good job fooling Browns fans he was cut out to be a GM.

LOL...For sure, Manziel had to be Farmers pick. The problem was Farmer wasn't ready to be GM. The Manziel pick proved that.

LOL...For sure, Manziel had to be Farmers pick. The problem was Farmer wasn't ready to be GM. The Manziel pick proved that. So..............let me get this straight......when people lambasted me and a few others for questioning some of Farmer's moves, they said Haslam made the move to draft Manziel and now that Farmer is gone and Haslam is still here, they are saying that Farmer made the pick and Haslam had nothing to do w/it. Oh, and when he was here and I questioned him.....I was told that I was negative, had an agenda against him, etc and that "it really felt different this time because we finally had a GM who got it." Now, those same posters are blaming him for every ill that the Browns now face. Sorry guys............I think a bunch of you are not trustworthy.

Look, the only reason I spoke out and told you you were being negative is that you started beating on him Virtually day one. You didn't even give him a chance to make a mistake.. You decided that he was lousy and that was it. I thought he deserved a chance to do his job. And I gave him that time. And when it was time to say he was doing a bad job, I did. But only after he had a chance to do anything. I may get banned for this, but damn it Vers, it's time you stopped lumping people together in order to make youself look smarter than the rest of us. Some of us are just a bit more tolerant.

Why do these people who have nothing currently going on with the Browns keep migrating to the top of thread list? We've been running a pretty tight ship. Other than Silver, I don't think anyone in the traditional football media really has the ties with this regime. So, the only way they can talk about the Browns is in the past.

As much as you may dislike it, what he said was accurate.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Daman, you and I tend to approach these things the same way with a new regime or a new staff.. you start out trying to be optimistic, you try to find the good in things and give folks the benefit of the doubt... as things move on you start to be more critical (assuming they aren't going well, which they never are)... then once they are gone you re-look at the track record and start assigning blame...
Some folks mistake that "optimism/benefit of the doubt" phase for a glowing endorsement...

My memory of the time is that many were somewhere between skeptical and cautiously optimistic. I wanted to give him a chance, but I was wary of his lacking of drafting experience.
As the bad moves kept piling up and/or coming to light, it was obvious that he wasn't cut out for the job.
If you want to run around telling everyone you were to first to call the downfall of Farmer, be my guest. Being the first to reach a decision on something doesn't mean you're any more or less right than the person who sits back and watches for a while.

Because I chose to wait and see before condemning a Player, Coach, GM or Owner before the time is right to do so or until they deserve condemnation? If that's fickle, then I guess I am.. As usual, your reading comprehension is poor. You were incorrect when you said that I disliked Farmer right off the bat. I was neutral. I judged each move on its own merits. Some good, some bad, some confounding. I am doing the same thing w/the new FO. For example, I liked the RGIII signing, the trading of the second overall pick, getting Ogbah at 32, etc. I do not like that the Browns were not able to re-sign any of their best free agents. Of course, guys like tab say that I have an agenda and hate the new FO. Same thing w/Farmer. Being objective is a negative w/the likes of you two. You guys are fickle [in my opinion] because you once said that Haslam was the guy who drafted Manziel, thereby absolving Farmer. Now, Farmer is gone and Haslam is getting some heat, so you say that Farmer made the pick all by himself. That's fickle. It's dishonest. It's not the truth. It's who you guys are and it is why I don't like you and do not trust a word you say. Btw----------a lot of what I said was aimed at tab, but man, you keep running your mouth.

Some folks mistake that "optimism/benefit of the doubt" phase for a glowing endorsement... Some folks mistake people making honest, independent observations about each move as they occur as being negative. Say one negative thing and one is sure to be attacked by the same folks time after time.
