In 1997 I finially listened to my wife and Dr. And went to a specialist. After a whole lot of test they wouldn't come out and say it but they thought I had bone cancer..
They ordered a full body bone scan to confirm it. Well guess what? The test confirmed it wasn't cancer but artriests. It was OA but it was attacking every joint. Since then I have had over 35 surgeries. Both shoulders, both thumbs, both hips replaced, right knee and yes I'm # one first full rotating ankle in northern Ohio.
Anyway the last hip replacement they decided to do a partial instead of a full. It lasted 4 1/2 yrs. Hell the one on the other side is 13 yrs old and doing fine. I know when I woke up I fought with the Dr. On his decision. Well on the 10th I am now going in to have my partial converted to a full. I don't need prayers, because I know so well what expect, but I would like for everyone to make sure you take your Dr. Advise and get things check before something happens that affects your health. As always when I used to start the game day thread.

Seems like I've been climbing forever. Family ask me how I can have such a good out look. I tell them this is the hand I was dealt. Make the best of it, I am in control, I decide my out come.

I am praying for you as well Nor I thought about getting a hold of you and trying to meet up when I was getting my Chemo in Sandusky but I never knew how bad I was going to feel after my treatment, or if you were going to be recovering from another surgery lol

Have you donated your body to medicine "for spare parts"? He's probably worth a fortune in titanium. When he walks through a metal detector, the metal detector melts.

Dave the metal detector melting made me laugh. But ya when I fly just tell them I'm going through the x-ray. They you have a replacement. I just say maybe one or two. Once I pass threw the all seem to know someone that needs a replacement and ask what they can do to help. All I can tell them is knee and hip are no big deal. You are 100% load bearing the day of surgery. Once your mind excepts that you are on your way. Now I was a bricklayer so I was use to pain, and could block it out. But with both hips and knee I was walking with a cane in 3-4 days.

All I can tell them is knee and hip are no big deal. You are a tougher guy than me then, because I had both hips replaced last fall and it was a pretty damn big deal for me. They couldn't get that morphine drip on me fast enough after the second one (left). But you're right, the implants are weight bearing by the next day, although not without some significant discomfort. Anyway, good luck and hang in there, you'll be fine.

Dave I am not a freak of nature. But I do have an ability to block out pain. I have worked as a bricklayer with not only broken ribs but also a broken stermm, broken collar bone and numerous other injuries. It just gets to the point that this is no big deal. That is all I'm saying. Now I will be 64 in about 5 wks. This will be my first surgery over 60yrs old. Know what I did last weekend? I was sawing and splitting wood for next winter. Put your mind in the right place and you will prevail.

I'll be praying for you.
I know what chronic pain is like. I hope that this surgery restores full function for you, and eliminates any pain you have in that hip.

OK just an update. Dr said I really lucked out. The big peice of the hip that goes in the leg didn't need replaced. All they had to do was change the ball joint and put in a socket.
Therapy had me up and walking 2hrs after getting out of recovery. Then latter they had me on the stairs. Two more therapy sessions today.
I will say it hurt way more at 64 than 59, but hell I'm only 29 hrs out from surgery, and it was a much easier procedure. Thanks everyone for the thoughts and prayers.

Well DD my wife took this week off to make sure I didn't drive. She took the bumpest ride she could to get home. I said why did you do that? You know my truck is way smother than yourvan, but ya I'm defiantly not driving to at least next week. Well maybe my lawnmower. The surgerical site is what hurts. The hip just sore. And the floor I walked was not that far. Maybe 125 yds

Yep. Change a few parts, check the oil, and off you go.

You should have onstar installed while you were in their. That way if you have any more accidents they could send a medical crew out to you. They could also check your fluid levels, your air pressure, and the oil levels on all your parts

What upset me was I think it was between my wife and Dr they made me a one access so I couldn't get up when I wanted to and just walk. I had to have someone with when I was up. Well I got out all my old exercises and now that I'm home I can really kick this therapy up a notch.

You followed the rules I Always told the nurses and DR where to go and how to get there when ever they opened their mouths. Then I told them I Never listened to my wife before so they shouldn't either.

And my wife is a saint not only is she's a dynamic but she has a yr of nursing school. Today was the first day I was left alone since my surgery. I needed my fountain pop lol, so away I went. I was reminded I wasn't clear red to drive. Told her I went and got my pop came home and done my exercises and behaved. But tomorrow I will go and get my fountain pop again. All she could say was she knew I would be like this.

So you went and drove before you were supposed to What is it about us guys that makes us so stubborn and hard headed? I was not allowed to drive for a few weeks after my last surgery either. One week later I was riding my motorcycle

I wasn't supposed to drive for a month after my open heart surgery. I was driving in two weeks. When I first got behind the wheel I was going down the road thinking, "What's the big deal? I'm fine."
Then I happened to look down at the steering wheel and saw, imprinted in the center of it, "Air Bag". I damn near had a panic attack as I envisioned that air bag blowing into my chest which was still in two pieces held together only by metal wire "stitches". I got over it quickly by not thinking about it. But boy did I drive careful after that. The last thing I wanted was for some moron to cause an accident making my air bag blow.
