That was a typical Michael Lombardi draft. Knew the FO was going to be a disaster as soon as he was hired.

Whose fault was it that we didn't have a second round pick?
Why didn't we have a 4th and 5th round pick?
How good did other teams fare in the 2013 draft?
Biased article, but it should be a popular one w/many on this board.

Man, I really thought that McFadden was going to be a really good CB. I loved the trades we made in 2013, as I think we got great value. It is the same reason I like the trades we made this year from 2 to 8, and then 8 to 15.

2012, 13 and 14 were some of the most tragic drafts in the history of the NFL. 3 regimes mnaged to produce nothign other than a RT and career backups at best.

Here is why we had the picks we had: No 2nd rounder; used by Heckert for Gordon in Supplemental draft prior to this draft.
***
Colts receive: » 2013 fifth-round pick (No. 139: DT Montori Hughes) Browns receive: » 2014 fourth-round pick
***
Steelers receive: » 2013 fourth-round pick (No. 111: SS Shamarko Thomas)
Browns receive: » 2014 third-round pick
***
Browns receive: » WR Davone Bess » 2013 fourth-round pick (No. 111: Traded to Steelers) » 2013 seventh-round pick (No. 217: DE Armonty Bryant)
Dolphins receive: » 2013 fourth-round pick (No. 104: LB Jelani Jenkins) » 2013 fifth-round pick (No. 164: Mike Gillislee)
***
49ers receive: » QB Colt McCoy » 2013 sixth-round pick (No. 173: Traded to Packers)
Browns receive: » 2013 fifth-round pick (No. 164: Traded to Dolphins) » 2013 seventh-round pick (No. 227: OT Garrett Gilkey)
Statistics are like a bikini; what they show is interesting, but what they hide is vital. Drive for show (1st round), Putt for dough (rest of draft).

LOL.........Those were rhetorical questions. Originally Posted By: Versatile Dog Whose fault was it that we didn't have a second round pick?

Just to be clear-------The Browns did not have a second round pick in 2013 because they lost it when the drafted Gordon in the 2012 Supplemental draft. Originally Posted By: Versatile Dog Why didn't we have a 4th and 5th round pick?
I believe they were traded for future picks during the draft. Right. The Browns got a 3rd round pick in the 2014 draft for their 2013 4th rounder and a 4th round pick in the 2014 draft for their 5th rounder in their 2013. The 2014 draft class was far superior to the 2013 draft class, so those were actually two good moves.

Leon McFadden, the one corner who usually had great position, but still felt he needed to create PI penalties ALL the time.
As usual, we make decent trades and the players we use those picks on in subsequent drafts end up sucking big time. 2013 sucked. It's hard to remember a time we had a good draft class brought in.

Even then the consensus was the Browns had a great draft. Everyone was giddy and lollipops over the Mingo pick. The truth is the Browns have never out drafted their AFC North Counterparts

Ansah: least 7.5 sacks each of his seasons. 14.5 sacks last year. 5th year option extended to him.
... and then you have Mingo lol. I'm not even going to bother listing his stats, yall know where I'm going with this.

Ansah was off the board when we picked, if I recall correctly.

I was really wrong about Ansah.
He was a kid who had been quoted as saying that he was worried about contact. He wore out easily in college, and he was really inexperienced, having really played only in his final year of college.
His drive and determination have really made him an outstanding player though.

Ansah was off the board when we picked, if I recall correctly. Lions snagged him one spot before us. Sheldon Richardson was available =( If I knew now back then, I'd probably have taken Desmond Trufant and we'd be set at corner back. Mingo 20lbs heavier, I'm not expecting much rush/run stop production than Mingo 20lbs less. I don't blame the staff for getting Mingo, I think he would've been selected shortly after us passing, hadn't we called his #. Ah well.

I remember a lot of people wanting Ansah, but he was gone.
I also remember a lot of people wanting Dion Jordan. I think he is out of football.

Ogbah has a totally different frame and bulk than Wimbley/Chaun Thompson/Mingo. He's more in the mold of what the Steelers drafted and Belichick later grabbed in Mike Vrabel, but a bit bigger and still at least as fast. Ogbah has the physical stature to be everything Wimbley, Mingo, and Thompson never could. The only question is whether or not he's a player at this level.

Another guy that was getting a lot of love on the boards was Bjoern Werner, the big DE from Fl. St. I bring him up because I saw his name on NFL Network last night. He also was out of football, but just signed a FA contract w/someone.
I just googled that draft, and man, what a terrible class it was. Maybe the worst of all-time. For some reason, 2009 sticks in my head as being terrible, but not sure.
Dee Miliner was a guy I wanted. He's been awful for the Jets. He's been injured for most of his career, but he turned out to be an awful pick.

j/c...
Looking back at that draft (draft history) what a crappy draft class!
I know I wanted Ansah...and I looked at that list which followed and there was not a sole that I can remember wanting.
I'm an Oline nut but pretty sure I thought way too early to take one of the OGs.
Of course I supported Mingo once he became a Brown...but leading up to the 2013 draft. I made one PLEA, BEG, WISH...I strongly stated I didn't care what Lombardi picked as long as it wasn't an OLB I thought he was a terrible evaluator at that position and it was one which I wanted him to stay away from...that FB and Kicker from first round. Of course I did a immediately at the selection.
But even with Hind sight its tough for me to state who I would have wanted. smh

Hindsight is easy..
You take the STL offer and move back..
Grab either Reid or Hopkins in the first..
And Kiko and Leveon Bell in the 2nd..
My hindsight draft gives us two 2nd rounders because we dont draft Gordon..
Am I the only one that pronounces hyperbole "Hyper-bowl" instead of "hy-per-bo-le"?

Here's the article on Werner: Jaguars add former Colts first-round bust Bjoern Werner - CBSSports.com http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/jaguars-add-former-colts-first-round-bust-bjoern-werner/After struggling with the Colts for three years, former first-round pick Bjoern Werner is going to get a chance to turn his career around in Jacksonville The Jaguars announced on Wednesday that they've signed Werner to a one-year deal Werner, the 24th overall pick in the 2013 draft, had been a free agent since March 8, when he was released by the Colts after an unimpressive career in Indy The Colts had high hopes for the Werner, but he never lived up to expectations. The German-born defensive end actually seemed to struggle more and more as his career went on After playing in 13 games as a rookie in 2013, Werner earned a spot in the Colts' starting lineup in 2014, a year where he started 15 games and tallied four sacks. However, Werner didn't last long as a starter. The German was given a backup role in 2015 and only appeared in a total of 10 games. In Jacksonville, the 2012 ACC Defensive Player of the Year is expected to compete against 2016 third-round pick Yannick Ngakoue for playing time as a pass-rusher in the Jags' 3-4 defense Werner will also have the chance to compete against presumptive starter Dante Fowler, the Jaguars' 2015 first-round pick who missed all of last season after tearing his ACL in training camp.

when did the Jaguars switch to a 3-4? Good catch. Last time we played them they ran a straight 4-3. I don't think they have changed.
