Browns rookies ready to report to Berea
Posted 2 hours ago

Cleveland’s 2016 draft class, among others, check into facility Thursday

The Browns’ rookies will report to Berea Thursday afternoon, making the beginning of their respective journeys in Cleveland.
The Browns welcome a draft class that includes 14 new members -- the largest crop of talent since 1979 -- in addition to 11 undrafted free agents, other young roster members who did not see the field last season (like tight end Randall Telfer) and tryout players looking to impress coach Hue Jackson and Co.
Rookie minicamp — a three-day grind and something of a rite-of-passage for those entering the league — begins Friday and ends Sunday.
The Browns will hold one of their practices at the team’s annual Fan Fest on Saturday at FirstEnergy Stadium.

2016 draft class:
WR Corey Coleman
LB Emmanuel Ogbah
DL Carl Nassib
OL Shon Coleman
QB Cody Kessler
LB Joe Schobert
WR Ricardo Louis
DB Derrick Kindred
TE Seth DeValve
WR Jordan Payton
OL Spencer Drango
WR Rashard Higgins
DB Trey Caldwell
LB Scooby Wright III
Undrafted free agents
LB Dominique Alexander
K Brad Craddock
DB Kenya Dennis
DB Mikell Everette
TE J.P. Holtz
DB Tracy Howard
DL Nile Lawrence-Stample
OL Mike Matthews
DL Kyle Rose
FB Patrick Skov
DB A.J. Stamps

That's a pretty long list of people haha

You'd think we could find 4-5 good players out of them. Just based on percentages.

Here's to a safe, but competitive, rookie camp. It'll be nice to see the young kids in those Browns jerseys and etc. Football season is creeping upon us!

Maybe if our players took things a little bit more seriously we would win more games.

Wow, 3 kickers on Tryout basis???!!

We clearly are not happy with what what we had last year.
Nothing else really stands out to me there.

Think it's safe to say Coons is history. We're aware we probably are going to have tons of long range fg attempts with our more than likely spit and sputter offense, and Coons can't provide enough mustard on the dog to hit them. I'm not even sure he is able to knock the ball out on kickoffs. I cannot recall any, but thankfully that may have been by design factoring our special teams coverage units have generally been great.

Mike Matthews is a guy that I hope makes it to the team. Just because he's related to Clay (nephew) I'm really rooting for the kid.

I think we will be doing a lot of Kickoff and Receiving with all these rookies to see who can make a mark on ST...you need several legs...oh if one looks to be an upgrade on Koons...so be it wink

I still don't know why people don't like Coons.

I thought he did rather well, considering the blocking. He missed 4 field goals all year, and all four were blocked due to bad kick coverage. The two extra points his missed are on him.

Doesn't seem to have the strongest of legs. Although, he is accurate from shorter distances if I remember correctly.

They should make every rookie watch the Jerry Rice "A Football Life" on NFL Network tonight. TEST them on it afterward. In particular Steve Young telling how a couple days after they won the SB he was getting a few things out of his locker, looking out a window he sees Jerry Rice running routes on the practice field. Four rings, plenty of money and he's there by himself running routes. Getting better.... If half of these rookies dedicated himself to that extent we would be in good shape.

They should also ask Jimmy Johnson about drafting dumb players. . .

I suggest that everyone go look at Phil Dawson's growth over the years.

We tend to forget that he didn't even try a 50+ yard FG in his 1st 4 seasons.

Not sure what Phil's "not trying" and Coons "not having" has to do with one another. Personally, I don't see a comparison between the two players.

Hue Jackson calls out top pick Corey Coleman: 'He's got to get in shape'

He's in shape...but its college shape not NFL shape. Hue stated Corey was one of many. It has nothing to do with OH OH laziness, his technique was very good. At the end of Hue's presser one of the writers was in OH OH mode and Hue tried to nip that right in the bud, not thinking the Media and I guess some fans will take his words to mean something totally different about Corey Coleman. They now have him and will get him in HUE JACKSON Shape he said in 2-3 weeks he will be there.

Just what I got from his presser (Hue's)

They have never in their lives had to run so many vertical stretch patterns and mid crosses. Its gonna be a challenge for these guys. Their body has never been used to this level of training. Hey I was in excellent shape when i joined the army but i was in football shape, not Army shape lol

Not only that, but Art Briles literally tells his wide receivers not to block so they can conserve energy.

I think it's possible that Hue would phrase that interview a little differently if he could redo it. That, or he doesn't care and him and his rookies are on the same page. The title doesn't convey the context I was getting from the article itself. Hue was making more of a "welcome to the NFL, rook" statement.

Cleveland media...

Those early teams struggled for points. If they the coaches thought that Dawson was able to make those kicks early in his career, don't you think that they would have used him?

Phil has even said that his leg has gotten stronger as he has gotten older.

I remember, way back in 1999, when Dawson was a so-so young PK, and people wanted to run him out of town. He survived, and improved, and thrived.

Now that's no guarantee that Coons will follow the same path, but it is certainly possible that he can improve, and become a better PK in year 2 of his career.

The title seems more inflammatory than the actual quotes from Hue.
Even he says he isn't worried about it, really.

Basically, it's the standard "you're not in college anymore" thing.
