I think, and I know it's a repeat of what others have said, many others - but I'm betting my money scooby will fill the role of Craig Robertson. Serviceable depth at linebacker, but a special teams wrecking ball. A freaking outright wrecking ball.

Serviceable depth at linebacker, but a special teams wrecking ball. A freaking outright wrecking ball. I don't understand why people say this. Scooby Wright never played special teams at Arizona. He is not fast. If he makes the team, it has to be because he showed himself to be a good linebacker prospect in camp and Preseason. Joe Schobert was a special teams ace at Wisconsin. Dominique Alexander is a fast player than Wright. Tank Carder has shown himself to be a pretty good special teamer. If Tabor is picking guys who can contribute on special teams, all three of these guys will probably be on there over Wright. I'm not saying there's not a roster spot for Wright, but I think he wil have to prove himself a very valuable ILB rather than prove himself on coverage or return units. JMO.

I agree Steve. Not sure why all the ST hype. If he can show he can get after the NFL QB's and RB's like he did in College he'll get a roster spot. He has his work cut out for him to prove his worth.

He clocked a bad 40 time but 31 tackles for loss, 15 sacks says that there's more behind the scenes than stats and gossip. Besides, you don't need to be a burner to get an angle on someone running downhill to hit them. Have you ever played special teams?
I don't see with Kirksey and the linebacker free agent we signed, Davis - there being much snaps for any other linebackers in the defense. I don't think they'll do the rotational approach that the previous did, giving game reps to both Craig and Kirksey. If Scoob can prove himself on special teams, it just may give him a roster spot to challenge for a future starting gig.
Or not, maybe he's just seriously too slow to play at this level.

JMO Speed is not the only factor. If that were the case he wouldn't have been so productive in college.
Take Anquan Boldin as an example. He clocked (I believe) a 4.78 40 time. For a linebacker or QB that's a decent time, but for a WR, it horrific! But his name is whispered with some of the best in the game.
I think Scooby will be fine. He's worked hard for everything and always played with a chip on his shoulder. Being a 7th round pick will only fuel the fire. I'll be rooting for him.

Good ILB play is so instinctual, football "smarts" as it where, can allow an ILB to overcome hos lack of speed in many instance.
Where he will struggle is on coverage of RB's out of the back field..I painfully remember watching Robertson follow in tow behind the lions RB ( who's name escapes me) a few years back where Weeden melted down in the 2nd half ( flipper gate).
Unfortunately I could see Scooby having similar issues if asked to play that Role.

Was it Reggie Bush torching us?
LBs covering RBs has been an issue for quite a while

they say it simply cause that is how 7th round picks make the team initially. You don't have to be the fastest nor most experience to make it on special teams. You have to give it your all and then some, you have to be fearless. If that is his make up...then he has a good shot on making a mark in special teams. If not he won't get the opportunity to do the things you say he has to. That could be during the season when injuries happen...it could be next season as the coaches know him better and he knows the scheme better.
As a rookie he better excel in ST or find his way out the door.

I think that Wright's biggest problem has been injuries. Everything I read says that he has elite instincts, recognition, and ability to diagnose plays, and that he plays much faster than his 40 time. He has a great deal of what you would look for in a LB, but he is not going to be a coverage guy, and the injuries are a concern.
He could be cut in the final cuts, or he could be a huge surprise and wind up starting. An argument can be made for almost anything with this kid.

What injuries are you referring too? As far as I know, there was only 1 where he missed significant time, and that was last year.

That was the impression I was under, can't recall reading anything other than last year's injuries, which included a foot sprain which is minor/not even a concern. It was the first game last year where he tore the meniscus. Did I miss something here? I've been reading up on alot of the rookies so I could've got confused, I'll blame it on old age if so

From his nfl.com scouting report: Scooby Wright III Draft Profile – NFL.com http://www.nfl.com/draft/2016/profiles/scooby-wright%20iii?id=2555292BOTTOM LINE Scooby Wright probably won’t tear up the combine with eye-popping athletic numbers and his injury-plagued 2015 season put his name on the backburner as far as draft discussions, but his instincts, production and overall competitive fire make him one of the safer second day bets in this draft. He could make a late move up the draft board for teams who value elite production. CBS also had concerns about injuries in their report.

I think people who think he will be good on special teams say that because he is a high effort player. Larry Izzo was not all that athletic, but he was a special teams whiz for years.

I think you’re right. This is what @Nfl Insiderz says… People say that Scooby Wright won’t make it in the NFL despite a productive college career. “My ankle hurt real bad. Real bad. 7th round is bunk,” says the Scoob. The Cleveland Browns lack a veteran leader on defense who can diagnose plays at the line of scrimmage, but Scooby Wright III feels he can fill that role. Scoob says, “Fans on message boards just be cranky. I’ll bring a veteran presence in a young dawg’s body.” Who am I to argue with an NFL Insider? I saw the @ and knew that it was a reputable resource.

Scooby is a real long shot. ILBers are asked to cover a lot in a 3-4 defense. If he is that slow, I think it will be tough for him to make it. Perhaps his "injuries" slowed him down........I don't know, but he would be a liability in today's game where teams throw it more than they run it and are running 3 and 4 WR sets a good percentage of the time.

I tend to agree here. There's a reason he slipped to the 7th round. Sure, sometimes guys fall through the cracks, but he was very well-known and a popular player. For him to slip to the 7th round speaks volumes about his injuries and/or his ability to play in the NFL. I understand why we selected him ... it's a lottery ticket on a highly-motivated person with toughness (all of the traits we seemed to value with other picks as well) ... but I'd be willing to bet he doesn't make our team

I'm rooting for him, but I doubt he gets much PT outside of special teams. Dont see him beating out Davis or Kirksey. Even if he did see the field, his size and speed are a liability. I'm hopeful he can make a little noise tho.

BB Bernie... I think the only rookie (drafted) with injury fall back is our new OT Shon Coleman, from what I heard in the Hue first rookie day presser is that he had knee surgery in the off season and they are going to be careful in bringing him along...slow easy and sure I guess. Nobody else was mentioned and they went full force out there.

6 players signed, only one of them is that their success or failure is really pivotal to the success or failure of the Browns near future. Seems pretty obvious to me, it's the offensive lineman.
If they can develop this players run blocking and more importantly the entire offense's pass protection ability, then they can have the slightest window to operate plays. If the offense can't block, it's over.
Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

Scooby Wright
Pro Day Results 40-yard dash: 4.87 seconds Vertical: 35 inches Broad jump: 9 feet, 4 inches Short shuttle: 4.55 seconds 3-cone: 7.25 seconds
hmmm he is faster, than Vontez Burfict, beats him by 5 inches in vertical jump, over a foot in the broad jump, and has better times in the short shuttle, and 3 cone than than Burfict.
Does anybody think Burfict is to slow and not athletic enough to play in the NFL?
I AM ALWAYS RIGHT... except when I am wrong.

The film on Wright says he over runs plays and lack instincts Burfict has things you can't Teach He was a LB the Browns could have had but the FO was too stupid To sign him

hmmm he is faster, than Vontez Burfict, beats him by 5 inches in vertical jump, over a foot in the broad jump, and has better times in the short shuttle, and 3 cone than than Burfict.
Does anybody think Burfict is to slow and not athletic enough to play in the NFL?
Burfict also can't cover anybody. (Burfict was also a known headcase who was out of shape coming out of college.)
