I wasn't all that interested in watching it because I lived it... but I must say I couldn't turn it off either . My stomach was tossing and turning throughout, reliving all the pain.
I do think they missed one though...the '72 playoff game vs. the dolphins. They had the undefeated jerks on the ropes but stayed in the locker room at halftime.

I thought Tony Gross came off very well. Surprised no comments from Bernie Kosar, Reggie Langhorne Brian Brennan...Sam Rutigliano...Andre Thorton...Austin Carr.

David Modell - simply the worst... at least his father had the good sense to die.
Other than the Modell/Mayor White/City Council hunk of the mid 90's, I loved it. That part made me want to go out in the yard, lie down in the NE Ohio cold rains and wait for hypothermia to take me.
I love seeing all the terrible crap of years past - sometimes I need an emotion refresher and that's the stuff that does it. Not only for the pain it reminds me of, but the euphoria I hope to one day feel (excluding the Indians but including the Pirates - who last won in '79, some six months before I was born).
And honestly, I'd love to shake the hand of Earnest Byner and give him a hug right now. Thank God The Fumble didn't happen now in the time of social media.

And honestly, I'd love to shake the hand of Earnest Byner and give him a hug right now. Yes. I felt pretty much the same way, at the end of his piece when his eyes were welling and he couldn't look into the camera really made me feel for him. He still carries that weight.

Yeah, that Model section in the middle was a little nauseating ... and ran a little long, but other than that, I sort of enjoyed the episode. I forgot that Modell had run the Browns out of Cleveland twice. The first time being Paul and Jim.
They could of cut out some of that and spent a little more time with Lebron, which I thought they sort of glossed over. There was also the Indians of 2007. But I guess they were sort of only highlighting events that were labeled in 3-words or less.

On the same night "Believeland" aired, Stipe Miocic, out of Cleveland, OH, wins the UFC Heavyweight championship...... coincidence?

On the same night "Believeland" aired, Stipe Miocic, out of Cleveland, OH, wins the UFC Heavyweight championship...... coincidence? I remember hearing on Really Big Show some years back about how James Brown's (Godfather of Soul James Brown) agent said James was a fan of Cleveland teams. He said once a Cleveland team wins it all, they're all going to win it all. Maybe it starts with this kid winning UFC? As far as the doc goes, I thought it was pretty good. As far as 30 for 30's go, It's a B-. I think there was almost too much content jammed into an hour and a half show. It moved really fast, outside of when they talked about the move. Really, all the events talked about in the show could be separate 30 for 30's (which thank God they are not) '97 was the worst for me. I was 16. Too young to really be devastated over the drive and fumble. I barely remember those. I remember being at my Grandma's with my whole extended family there, but I remember Game 7 of the '97 series like it was yesterday. It was my 16th birthday party, Whole family at my place. It was a Sunday night. I don't remember having the whole doom and gloom attitude that a lot of Cleveland fans have when they watch games today. I felt like the city was really confident we would finish it out. What a brutal way to lose a championship. If the Cavs win it all this year, I would love to see them tack on an extra hour to that documentary showing the happy resolution that we are all waiting for.

I forgot how much the 97 Indians hurt The first thing that came to mind after reading your post was an interview with Grover around 10 years after Game 7. The interviewer asked when he got over the loss. He responded, "I'll let you know when it happens." Same with me. #Crushing I was 24. I was pacing around my apartment in Toledo and readying myself how I would run through the parking lot screaming with joy. I knew the key to the game wasn't Mesa, it was scoring that run from 3rd with less than two outs in 8th or 9th. Alomar was thrown out at home. I knew then it was over, as if we NEEDED that insurance run with Mesa in the 9th. You can't really get much closer than that. It's odd, my cable went out yesterday morning (and it's still out). It's almost as if the Big Guy upstairs did that to save me from watching it. We'll eventually break through. We just have to keep getting to the playoffs in each sport. I have confidence.

Three takeaways: 1.) Ernest Byner has more than paid his debt for "The Fumble." He moved me to tears several times. 2.) Watching Jose Mesa not being able to do what he had done all season was painful.... 3.) Some day I will see a championship in Cleveland.

Couple other things, I didn't know Hank Aaron was such a Browns fan. It was nice to see Marty and pretty emotional to see him get emotional about Byner...
And David Modell is still the worst.

Well, I watched it finally this morning at 4am. what a downer.
Lots of facts, some things that I'd kinda hidden away with hopes they would never be unlocked.
Maybe because I still had sleep in my eyes, but it just wasn't all that and a bag of chips for me..

I saw the last half the show last night.
It was basically Modell and LeBron leaving.
I already knew the incredible run of bad owners, bad events, bad coincidences, bad decisions.
How ironic. The only good thing about Cleveland sports is the fans.
Maybe fans turn into jerks when their team wins. Not our problem. Yet.

I forgot how much the 97 Indians hurt Thankfully as Cleveland fans, there are constant reminders of those things with no real good news to offset it and feel good about.

I thought it was fantastic. The subject matter of course was unbelievably painful but it was honest and didn't go out of it's way to bash the city. It really felt as though they were presenting the case that the city doesn't deserve this.
This is the only thing on my DVR that is "Kept" so that I can watch it with my wife (a Chicagoland native) and my kids at they get older. I want them to understand why I've remained such a steadfast fast fan of both Cleveland, and Cleveland sports.
As a funny side note, the guy in the Tribe hat as they were going into the 45 minute mark break was someone I'd worked with at the time and I had no idea tha the was such an Indians fan.
Last in, first out, the sign of a true champion!

Some are mad about it but having watched it with a few journalist friends, it wasn't that bad IMHO, David Modell aside.

"that stuff hurts and I wasn't even alive then" .... he gets it... poor sucker Just watched it with my son tonight (he's 13). It's funny - I told him the same thing mid-season last year as Raab did to his son "if you want to root for another team, I understand". Now, I did put a conditional on there as long as it isn't the Steelers, Ravens, or Bengals . He said no way - now I think he fully understands the heartbreak.

Anybody see the new ending? I caught it by accident. Freaking great! It brought a wide smile to my face. I was watching ESPN earlier today and they had a guy working the Cleveland ESPN location on talking about the Indians win streak. The Sportscenter guy asked why the attendance has been low, the Cleveland rep responded, "AS good as the Indians are, most of Cleveland has been re-watching Game 7 off their DVR every night." I laughed, but it's true.

I hope that they are showing the new version from now on, because I have it coming up on the DVR. (I forgot about it)

I did see the new ending, evidently the original was set up for the new ending... because they did the original and then followed a lot of the same people through the finals, had video of them watching Game 7, had video of them at the parade, etc.. Interesting.
