http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2016/05/28/obama-dishonors-memorial-day-hiroshima/

As most should know, the pres went to Hiroshima and apologized for our use of nukes to end WWII. He did not give any praised to the US troops that fought the war.

From estimates I have read, the US military expected to lose as many as 500,000 men in the first couple weeks if we had invaded Japan, with the final toll being 1-4 million, and the Japanese losing around 10 million. Therefore, our use of the bomb forced the Japanese to surrender, saving millions of lives.

I guess obama must have forgotten the Japanese experiments on POWs, their death camps, kamikaze children, forced prostitution of captured women, and other atrocities committed by the Japanese.

Any thoughts?

Don't forget the main reason we were involved with them in the first place....Pearl Harbor.

I highly suggest you watch the video, or at least read the full text of his speech. He acknowledges both sides in the second or third paragraph.

Quote:
Why do we come to this place, to Hiroshima? We come to ponder a terrible force unleashed in a not-so-distant past. We come to mourn the dead, including over 100,000 Japanese men, women and children, thousands of Koreans, a dozen Americans held prisoner.
-President Barack Obama

He even acknowledges how Japan got caught up in religious zeal to support the emporer. Really, watch it Erik.

Full Text

My thoughts get summed up best in this clip from the speech.

-------------------------------------

There's people on both sides slamming him for what he said. Some believe he apologized too much, and some believe he didn't say enough.

Obviously you can't make everyone happy.

Not at all. I haven't forgotten, but our pres apparently did.

Hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians were wiped out by the dropping of the two nuclear bombs and many suffered afterwards as did future generations.

Japan has apologized for what they did in the war, in particular the Nanjing Massacre. Germany have apologized for what they did at their horrific camps. Why shouldn't we apologize too? Maybe we should apologize for the carpet bombing of Dresden, the hundreds of thousands of landmines we laid in Vietnam and Cambodia as well as Agent Orange, which still affects people today. Pride is only ego and very small compared to being decent, respectful and humane. I applaud the President for being the first President to visit Hiroshima and for his words.

Yes, the two bombs sped the end of the war against Japan and perhaps Dresden helped the Germans realize they were done. Still, the many innocents who perished are unthinkable. I can guarantee if a Dresden, a Hiroshima or Nagasaki happened on these shores we would expect a leader to apologize for it too.

Since there was no apology I have no idea what you're talking about.

You would have us apologize for being attacked? You want us to apologize for the war they started as they tried to wipe us out?

He did not apologize. I thought how he handled it was about as well as it could've been.

I don't think we owe them an apology-what are we supposed to say? Sorry this is what it took for you to stop what you started?

Don't think so.

Where did I say I would request an apology for us being attacked in Hawaii? Where did I request an apology for the war Japan declared against us?

Look into the mirror 40...how many wars have the US started against others?

I know he did not apologize, I never said he did.
PDX wants us to apologize and that is what is outrageous.
Now get off your "High" horse and try to carry a conversation.

You and others are carrying on a conversation and arguing in where the situation never occurred.

Erik's fake ass along with the other agenda posters is now no better than any politician on this planet. And yet here you and others are, still going on about this.

Politicians didn't create a divide. The people did. Look in the mirror next time we start blaming politicians for our problems.

Try reading the entire thread swish. 40 is arguing about what PDX said, not what Obama said.

Which is why I mentioned him and others.

It's stupid to ask for an apology or give one when it comes to this situation.

I thought an apology was implied, but not expressed. I also thought it was clear that Obama disapproved of the decision to drop the bomb, which is his right. I would argue it shouldn't have happened on foreign soil. What bothered me was the moral equivalence he made between the behavior of the aggressors in WWII and those who were defending themselves from an unprovoked attack.

Yes, it is too bad and it's horrific.

If Japan or Germany had gotten the atom bomb first, they would have surely killed millions of Americans. And our (me and you) lives would be quite different then they are now.

Innocent deaths are an unavoidable consequence of war. And it's likely war is an unavoidable consequence of human existence.

I said an apology would be the decent, humane, respectful thing to do considering hundreds of thousands of people were snuffed out and many generations suffered long lasting after effects. Also, we have 71 years of time to allow for healing.

I guess you feel differently and American ego and pride is more important. Go figure.

Yes, innocent death is an unavoidable consequence of war but, this is also why we now have the Geneva Convention treaties to try and avoid the mass innocent casualties of wars past. Thus, why Cruz's remarks about "carpet bombing Syria" were shocking and immediately criticized.

Not entirely sure why you needed to point out my former hometown but, thanks for the shout out. I always liked Lakewood and there will always be a soft spot for it in my heart.

Good luck talking combat with people who never seen combat.

I don't want to seem like I'm better, but people who never experience combat have a hard time grasping how important the Geneva convention is.

And those that do understand, seem to always get labeled unpatriotic or weak or soft or whatever term they choose to call you.

Lets be honest, Obama is a ass kisser who travels the world embarrassing Americans. He is always bowing to somebody or apologizing for something. I have several family members who fought in WW2. What a slap in the face our Commander in Chief is to them. This clown can not get out of office fast enough.........But I still like him better than Hillary.

We don't owe them an apology. They took the first swing, we swung back-harder.

I notice that in your list of things the Japanese apologized for, Pearl Harbor wasn't among them.

They wanted to, but MacArthur's brovado killed it all. Former Emperor Hirohito came to do as much, but MacArthur wouldn't grant him audience, and this was after the war.

Maybe I missed it, but how/where did he apologize?

I'm all for crucifying the guy for it, but I have yet to actually see anything that supports that he actually did.

Actually....Japan's PM spoke last year to the US Congress and said Japan owed "deep repentance for his country's role in WW2". So, yes...I would take that as an apology.

But, as you expected an apology for their unprovoked aggression on the US and Pearl Harbor then we should apologize to Iraq for what we did to their country in 2001 on false pretenses.

I would think a teacher would understand sentence structure.

"This is a comment I'd expect from either a child or a half-wit."

Child and half-wit refer to the subject, "That Comment", not to a person.

Whereas "Your Comment" could be considered more of a personal nature.

I haven't read the transcripts or watched the speech and honestly I won't. Having said that, in all fairness I have yet to see anyone post what it was he said that amounted to an apology. I also don't have a problem with him going to a place like Hiroshima and speaking about the events.

But the atomic bombings happened in August.

So can anyone explain to me why the President of the United States is in a foreign country memorializing a war event whose anniversary isn't for another few months, over the Memorial Day weekend? At a minimum, do some of you guys at least understand how bad the optics on that are? How many people would find that offensive?

Personally I see this and I just smh. I accepted the fact a long time ago that Obama has no genuine appreciation for the military. But I also don't fully blame him for that because he does come from that strain of 1960's liberalism (like Hillary) that called serviceman baby killers, murderers, and spat on them.

It is what it is.

It's nice he did that, and it's a shame that Hirohito wasn't allowed 'audience' but I appreciate the fact that he was repentant for Japan's role in WWII.

But I'm still not sorry for the fact that we responded when provoked in the manner in which we were.
