We need to get that debt trending the other way real quick.

well we got a republican senate who keeps increasing the spending, and a liberal president who keeps signing off on it.

one in the same.

Bro I agree with you. And the people keep demanding they spend more. Everybody agrees we should cut spending, nobody wants any money cut from what benefits THEM..

And a democratic president that keeps saying he will veto anything that isn't exactly what he wants, and then he blames the republicans for trying to shut down the government.

See, what people might not understand about me, and my thoughts on our national debt, is this:

Some are celebrating the fact that the percentage INCREASE in debt is going down. The debt keeps rising though.

Imagine a household. For, say, 40 years, that household has been spending more than it brings in. Let's say that household brings in $100,000 a year, but, averaged out over the 40 years, they've spent $130,000.

They are so far in debt by now, they'll never get out of it. Who cares if the new debt increase percentage was smaller this year than it was last year? That household STILL owes more than it did.

And further, more and more of the households income is going to servicing the debt, leaving less and less to do what the house needs/wants to do. But they just keep borrowing anyway.

(back to the gov't., if we throw in unfunded liabilities, the u.s. is somewhere in the neighborhood of $100 to $120 trillion in debt.)

I understand and agree with your thoughts on our debt.

The other thing to consider is that China owns about $1.2 TRILLION in US debt. Which means this Chinese government we say is so evil, we are sending them American tax dollars to the tune of about $25 billion a year in interest.

We are also giving them tremendous leverage when it comes time to negotiate any kind of trade deal or if we tried to stop their companies from acquiring American assets, etc.. we have no power to negotiate.

Just read somewhere, recently, that china actually only owns about 5-7% of our debt. I don't have a link handy.

Actually the biggest debt we owe is to ourselves. The u.s. gov't. owes the u.s. gov't., basically.

Regardless, be it on a personal level, a large business level, or on the level of the fed. gov't., constantly spending more than you make (tax) is a recipe for financial disaster.

And we're quickly approaching that, imo.

I quoted above the number $1.2 trillion from an article. $1.2 of $19 trillion is 6.3% so you are probably correct.

But 6.3% is still fairly significant.

Mark Cuban Doubts Donald Trump Is Really a Billionaire

Cuban, worth an estimated $3.2 billion, has some questions about Trump’s membership in the Three Comma Club.

Mark Cuban, the Donald Trump of tech billionaires, might be the only public figure who can match the presumptive Republican nominee in mouthiness and get away with it. In fact, as he recently proved during a radio interview, he might be one of the few people who can question Trump’s wealth and have people take his opinion seriously—or, at the very least, make news for doing so.

In the wake of several reports suggesting that Trump’s net worth might be significantly lower than he claims—a theory only bolstered by Trump’s insistent refusal to release his tax returns—Cuban, whose net worth is estimated at $3.2 billion, went on 77 WABC’s Bernie and Sid show to cast doubt on whether his fellow mogul really deserves his alleged Three Comma status.

“Nobody’s great at everything,” Cuban said, as first reported by BuzzFeed. “I know what I’m good at, and I know what I’m not good at. I’m not so sure Donald knows what he’s not good at.”

Cuban, for instance, is good at owning a professional basketball team, investing in tech companies, and funding whatever small-potato start-ups earn his approval on Shark Tank—and so he largely sticks to those realms. Trump, on the other hand, is engaged in an absurd array of businesses and side hustles that make little financial sense except as an exercise in vanity (or, more generously, personal branding). Cuban gave Trump credit for being “good at branding real estate,” but bashed the rest of Trump’s interests as evidence of an unsound mind. “I don’t think he’s very good at brands for non–real estate products. And, to me, it’s more a reflection of desperation,” he told Bernie and Sid’s co-hosts. Cuban then ran through a list of Trump’s random assortment of business investments—steaks, water, playing cards—and called his strategy “nonsense.”

Finally, because all Trump-era politics must come down to a hand-measuring contest, Cuban cited the candidate’s recent F.E.C. filings to proclaim that he, not Trump, was the richer of the two. “Before all the Trumpians jump on me on who has more money, the reason I know is when you file your federal election campaign reports, you have to list all your cash and liquid securities and bonds,” Cuban argued. “You have to list them one by one. So we know without any question that as of May 27, Donald doesn’t have more than $165 million in cash and securities and bonds. And trust me, I’ve got a lot of more than that in cash, securities, and bonds.”

So far, Trump has yet to respond, but judging from their past interactions, it won’t be pretty. Back in 2015, when Cuban first implied that Trump did not have enough cash on hand to run for the presidency, Trump retorted that the Dallas Mavericks owner was a “lightweight whose net worth is a fraction of mine” and that he once “watched him play golf and he is a total non-athlete—zero clubhead speed.” That did not stop Trump from holding a September rally at the American Airlines Center, where the Mavericks play. Cuban, who recently claimed that he’d make a better president than Trump, knows a good deal when he sees one.

I will add, that a lot of things with Trumps name on them aren't owned by Trump himself.

Mark Cuban Open to Being Trump's (Or Clinton's) VP

NBA owner and billionaire investor Mark Cuban said he's open to a conversation about running for Vice President in 2016 with either Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton.

But Cuban, who describes himself as "fiercely independent", does have a few caveats.

Cuban Open to Being Trump's or Clinton's VP 1:37
In an interview with NBC's "Meet the Press," Cuban said, "If [Trump] asked me, I'd be like, 'Okay, Donald. That's great. Let's talk about it. But we're both going to have to dig in and really look and understand the issues so we can come up with solutions.'"

In a portion of the interview released Friday, Cuban also expressed interest in running with Hillary Clinton. He said he would "absolutely" entertain that conversation, but "she would have to go more to the center."

Securities would be stocks. Cuban is looking at liquid or near liquid assets, not hotels and golf courses and other stuff. Like I'm sure in his own $3 billion net worth they have included the stadium the Mavs play in, etc.

But Cuban is a big stock investor in tech companies, I'm sure Donald has money in the stock market but it's not his primary "business" like it is for Cuban so it wouldn't surprise me at all if Cuban has a lot more assets in the category.

You would also have to consider not only what Trump "owns" but the outstanding debt on those properties. Sometimes things look great to the eye but not so great on paper.

So he's not worth 8 to 10 million like he's been saying. I'm not surprised.

I know you mistyped.

But, if I look at my liquid and can easily be turned into liquid assets, I'm at point A.

If I were to combine my business, home, etc. into my net worth, it's a totally different story/scenario.

Yes I believe it has. Trump has stated in public during a political speech that he was worth between 8-10 billion dollars. I don't believe it. He refuses to turn over his tax statements to validate it and it seems you even provided a statement from Forbes that claims it's about half of what he's been stating.

I don't know how many flip flops and lies he has to tell before people realize that he's certainly no better than Hillary.

I know. That's why I said "don't tell my wife". Those other things, plus life insurance?

She's a "payment" person. Well, we'll just make payments. I'm not that way. I'd rather do without "stuff" as opposed to getting stuff and making payments. Because, as I said in this thread or some other one, at some point, making those payments on "stuff" is going to affect real life.

Now, I need to change my password so my wife can't read this stuff.

Hopefully I'll be posting tomorrow.

Net worth really has nothing to do with tax returns. I need only look at myself for that to be proven true.

As for flip flops, lies - hillary is at the peak. If you have $5 she'll tell you whatever you want to hear, as long as she gets your $5, because she'll turn that into $10. For her.

She lies no more than Trump. And that's the sad part in all of this. Between the two of them, there is nobody running that is fit to be president.

I don't belong to a party or have any motivation to try to support either of these candidates. But Trump is the scariest candidate on a global scale I've ever seen in my life!

You only list the negatives about each candidate with a hateful tone.

Even I can see positives on each side.

To me, Trump is the best answer for what ails America today because of his experience in Finance and Negotiating the better deal. I have no doubt he will surround himself with the best advisers from the Political, Financial and Business worlds. His ego will demand he be a Great President!

Hillary is an insider and knows the score. I can see where we would survive her Presidency as she knows everyone on the inside.
Because she tends to lie like a rug, I have no doubt she will move way to the middle, even right of middle if elected. This I could live with.

So go back to yelling at the neighborhood kids in your yard and speak up if you have anything positive for America to say because one of these two people is going to be our next President. Hate serves no one.

It's funny how people state Hilary's lying, which is valid, but seem to be perfectly ok to tie break for a guy like Trump.

The way he insults women, minorities, open states to conduct war crimes(after families), and y'all will support that?

That's scary. And honestly, that's me scared to ever meet any of you guys in person, knowing that you share the social views of trump.

It could never be a loyal friendship because I know at the end of the day, I know how y'all really feel about my heritage.

So somebody tell me: why should I not feel like I'm in hostile territory in America if you guys get your president?

I saw an estimate of Trumps actual net worth being as low as 150 Million or as high as 250 Million and not a penny more. They took into account all his holdings, liabilities and estimated liquidity.

The story pointed out how Trump scrambled to sell things to cover a 7 million dollar need for cash recently. If he was actually worth all these billions why would he have to sell something to raise that kind of cash?

I have no idea how much he is or is not worth, I think he inflates the number but I really just don't care.
