High School Boy Wins All-State Honors In Girls Track And Field

High school girls in Alaska are crying foul after a male sprinter took home all-state honors in girls’ track and field. According to local reports, it was the first time in Alaskan history that a male athlete competed in the girls’ state championships.

Haines senior Nattaphon Wangyot–who self-identifies as a girl–advanced to the state finals in the 100-meter and 200-meter events. He won fifth place in the 100-meter dash and third place in the 200-meter. In both events, he competed against girls as young as ninth grade.

One of the girls Wangyot beat out for a slot at the state meet, Hutchison runner Emma Daniels, took issue with allowing a male athlete to compete in girls events.

“I’m glad that this person is comfortable with who they are and they’re able to be happy in who they are, but I don’t think it’s competitively completely 100-percent fair,” she told a local CBS station.

Another runner, Peyton Young (who competed in a different event) took a similar position. “I don’t know what’s politically correct to say, but in my opinion your gender is what you’re born with,” she told the Alaska Dispatch News. “It’s the DNA. Genetically a guy has more muscle mass than a girl, and if he’s racing against a girl, he may have an advantage.”

Alaska allows each school to decide whether to let boys compete in individual girls’ events. According to the Alaska Dispatch News, Wangyot’s district doesn’t even require boys to undergo hormone therapy before competing in girls’ events.

“For the purposes of gender identification for interscholastic activities, the district will consider the gender identity based on the student’s consistent declaration of gender identity, their actions, attitude, dress and mannerisms,” the policy states.

Wangyot — who immigrated from Thailand in 2014, according to the Alaska Dispatch News — also played on the girls’ volleyball and basketball teams.

Alaska Family Action president Jim Minnery, organized a protest against forcing teenage girls to compete against male athletes.

“We are here today as a voice from the community to ensure that female athletes are not denied the playing opportunities and scholarships otherwise available to them and to make the playing field even again,” he said.

Minnery argued that “Allowing students to play on teams of the opposite sex disproportionately impacts female students, who will lose spots on a track, soccer and volleyball teams to male students who identify as female.”

I hope he feels some great sense of accomplishment over this.

I hope some young girl doesn't miss out on a scholarship opportunity because of being forced to compete with a biological male, or because a biological male took her place on her own team.

This may not be PC, but if it dangles, it's male. If it doesn't, it's a female.

President Obama cited Title IX as a reason for his letter to schools regarding access to bathrooms.... isn't a big part of Title IX about protecting girls sports?

Title IX has been abused for many such purposes. Yes, it was initially meant to provide equal access for girls sports as boys sports, and equal monies to support those sports.

That is not correct. Title IX was not established in 1972 geared towards sports. It was geared towards equal opps in academics for females. It was eventually applied to sports also.

Then I misunderstood. I thought it was originally established for sports, because it was used for that through the 80s. It's nice to know that the original intent has been changed for longer than I thought.

Anyway, this is two separate issues, as far as I'm concerned.

And you are free to view it that way, we all draw our line somewhere. As for me, if my daughter was to play volleyball, whether the 6'4" guy was in the locker room with her or on the other side of the net spiking the ball in her face, I would still feel that neither was right.

Actually, I find it rather appalling that you would be perfectly OK with a boy who "identifies as a woman" showering with your daughters ..... but have that boy, their own age. beat them in an athletic competition ..... and it's "Oh heck no!".

As far as this goes.... It's odd, but I'm not upset over something like this. It's rare, and society has a way of auto correcting problems like this.

If one can "identify" as another sex, and use the bathroom or shower of that other sex, logic would conclude that said person be able to "identify" with playing sports against people of a different sex.

If you're against males playing females in sport, you're against it, and against males using female restrooms. To say otherwise is about as "talking out of both sides of your mouth" as it comes.

It doesn't "mean" anything.. and as I said before, you are able to view it however you want but this gender identity thing is just getting started and is going to permeate many more facets of life and you are free to view them all as different and unique, but they will always be connected by a common thread of how we view gender.

And, as I see it, women will end up losing in the long run. Wait until some dude who owns a company starts raking in government contracts that are set aside for small/disadvantaged/women owned businesses because he classifies his business as woman owned because he "feels" like a woman..
