So, you would rather dance around the old testament than actually talk about your quote?

You're gonna have to be more specific with your question. I suck at figuring out what people are getting at over the internet (most of the time).

Did you not also read where I shared my own guilt before God? And my own struggles with temptation as a young convert?

Trying to tell you that I don't think I'm better than you or anybody else. Just another forgiven sinner trying to share the grace of God. While also standing up for the plain spoken truth.

When did I pass judgment? Like I said, I posted what I posted when Jules said 'those verses are open to interpretation'.

That is a lie. They are as plain as day.

When has Vers ever respected anyones 'wishes' on how to post?

As I've said twice now, I posted what I posted in response to Jules comment on RELIGIOUS VERSES!

So who made it a religious debate?

I don't agree, I didn't pass judgement on anyone. I don't pass judgement on anyone but I do know what the Bible says is right and wrong.

I have relatives that say, 'it's not my job to judge them'.

I respond, 'it's not my job either, but they are going to be judged (as we all are) and it is my job to try to make that meeting go in their favor.

You are seriously going to hit me with a Leviticus and not going expect a debate on that?? Come on Ted. We all know that your buddy YTown is going to do you some better and add some new testament fun, which I will again argue the interpretation. He is one of the many who spend the majority of his religious time lamenting on this particular "sin".

You guys are making headway. They are killing us by the dozens now. Great job!

This is a comment I made in the transgender bathroom debate weeks ago Jules, I hope you believe me when I say I'm trying to come from a place of compassion and not judgement.

Quote:
Okay here's the thing. (some back story) My daughter is friends with a transgender boy from high school. As a dad I read my kids texts (don't look at me funny if you don't you should be).

Should be no secret that I'm theologically opposed to this activity, and until this particular 'reading' I was sure that it was a chosen lifestyle.

While reading through an exchange between my daughter and this boy I come across part of the conversation where he talks about how he would sit in his room, arms wrapped around himself, rocking back & forth digging his nails into his arms.

Right then my thinking changed.

So for the next three weeks or so I'm wrestling with God about this, going so far as to say, 'well if they're born like this then it shouldn't be a sin', and believe me when I tell you I wrestled hard with this.

Then it hit me, God doesn't ask you how you were born, what you're tempted by or who you're attracted to.

God said this is how it is and that's the end of it. Well, that's really petty and egotistic of him isn't it?
Tell ya what, when you can claim the entire iPhoto library of the Hubble telescope as your handiwork then you can decide how big God's ego is and write your own rules.

Something else to include in your thinking is this-TEMPATION ISN'T SIN. Only when you act on whatever you're tempted by have you sinned.

The other thing I wrestled with was, 'what do I tell this person then if he was genuinely born this way'?

Jesus loves you. No matter what that's the end of the matter.

Does that mean they would spend their lives alone? From a Biblical perspective losing fellowship with God for eternity would be worse than losing a relationship here on earth.

Not quite, apparently you also feel you must point out the truth so that he knows he's in sin. An then, if you feel it necessary, you must argue a Bible verse to drive the point home.

Of course I expect a debate! But I'm serious when I say that I suck at figuring out what you're getting at. There is no 'tone of voice' to be heard when reading to guide me in the direction you're going, and a lot of us will only answer one or two of the things written in any given post.

Believe me, I know Ytown is coming. And I know Ytowns heart is that we all be born again just like Jesus said, and I know he'll bring up New Testament verses that again, are more specific than you think.

They are killing you by the dozens, but they don't have my endorsement or any true christian trusting in the grace of God. Hopefully swish will help me out with this but I don't believe Islam has the teaching of mercy and forgiveness within it and a radical nut job wouldn't care if it did.

One of the many weird things about people like this is that they think that just because God speaks against a certain thing they're doing Him service by killing members of that group.

I can't think of any recent christians killing homosexuals but I can tell you that the westboro people are not a sincere representation of Jesus love.

God doesn't 'hate fags'. God loves all of us, if he didn't there wouldn't have been the death on the cross to pay for our sins and purchase our righteousness and then the resurrection for our justification.

It's late, I gotta work and this debate isn't going anywhere (except to another thread as it always does).

Good night.

First off, you have to share the verse otherwise a person isn't going to know God's opinion on the matter are they? So how is that judgement?

Do you need a safe space? Is this a trigger word for you?

Regarding your second question. This is a tough one but I think there is a definite difference between being tempted to do something and then after you go on to entertain it and being to imagine things that then become a part of who you are. Jesus was calling us to not be people who just didn't do things outwardly but to have a purer character than before.

That's my take anyway.

Clearly that is the case, I'm not disputing that fact.

But I'm wondering if the narrative going forward is that this is treated as a hate crime against gay people instead of a terrorist attack on the American way of life, we'd be passing on an opportunity to truly come together as a Nation. Wouldn't a true example of solidarity be to stand side by side and identify with those killed? I'm not gay so I wouldn't ever be able to identify with them in that respect, but why can't I stand up and say "They are my neighbor, They are Americans, you attacked them, you attacked me, you attacked us?"

I can't do that if this is labeled as a hate crime against a protected class because I'm not a member of that class.

We constantly talk about the strive for equality in this country. I don't see how we would be doing ourselves a favor by pretending only a select group was targeted.

I don't know Jules thoughts on it, so my comments don't reflect what I presume she feels. I'm presuming nothing.

If there's something on your mind and you're concerned that it may become a sin, then it already has. You don't have to entertain something for months until it becomes a part of who you are. If you look upon a woman with lust you've already committed adultery in your heart. All it takes is a look and a thought.

Listen dude, you are all over the place. Far too much so to be playing teacher. It's way too early for that. It's great that you're saved. Praise God for that because you didn't deserve it. So work on that until you bear fruit.

Vers, I'm sorry for the rabbit hole this thread has gone down and I apologize for my part in it. But I just couldn't let some young wannabe Christian Crusader try to lay it on Jules after she just shared her experience, which touched me. When I think of her sitting there alone in her thoughts of all the times similar things have happened to her and then "this goof" steps in to share some of his "Biblical Truth" as he thought it a fitting moment and an opportunity to represent.

Jules, I'm sorry to you too for talking about you yet I haven't even responded to you on the matter. It hurt my heart a little bit when you shared that scene at the bar. I wanted to be there and take over that conversation. I'm not as bad ass as I used to be but I still got a big mouth. lol

This is not ment for you ddubia, I am just responding to everybody on this thread. I won't post all on Leviticus here but I will link it

https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Leviticus%2019

Anybody on here who is talking about homosexuality being a sin should also be talking about the following things being sins

Not respecting your parents

Not keeping God's Sabbath

When you sacrifice a fellowship offering to the Lord, sacrifice it in such a way that it will be accepted on your behalf. 6 It shall be eaten on the day you sacrifice it or on the next day; anything left over until the third day must be burned up. 7 If any of it is eaten on the third day, it is impure and will not be accepted. 8 Whoever eats it will be held responsible because they have desecrated what is holy to the Lord; they must be cut off from their people.

When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. 10 Do not go over your vineyard a second time or pick up the grapes that have fallen. Leave them for the poor and the foreigner.

Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself.

Do not plant your field with two kinds of seed.

Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material

‘When you enter the land and plant any kind of fruit tree, regard its fruit as forbidden.[b] For three years you are to consider it forbidden[c]; it must not be eaten. 24 In the fourth year all its fruit will be holy, an offering of praise to the Lord. 25 But in the fifth year you may eat its fruit. In this way your harvest will be increased.

Do not eat any meat with the blood still in it

Do not cut the hair at the sides of your head or clip off the edges of your beard.

Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourselves.

Stand up in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere your God.

So anybody Condemning gay folks, should also be Condemning all the people I mention above, but it's funny that I never hear anybody condemning a guy who likes rare or medium rare streaks, guys who cut their hair, guys who work on Sunday, or who grow more than one crop on their farm, and God forbid that your clothes are made from more than one kind of fabric shocked

To some people every thing I mentioned is a sin, and eating those rare steaks is going to cause you to burn in hell. To others none of those are a sin and you don't need to worry about them. For others they believe they can pick and choose and it's OK.

As for me I have no problem admitting I don't know and will never know for sure while I am still alive. So I will try my best to live my life as well as I can. To do my best to do things that show God I love him, and am thankful to him for what he has done for me. To continue to pray to him for his forgiveness as I know I fall short and sin every single day of my life, and to NOT JUDGE OTHERS.

It was inevitable.

I am not as educated as most of you on political and social issues and won't pretend to be. I do think that this particular massacre was a hate crime. I think people wanting to deport a Valedictorian are hateful. I think a punk kid killing people in a church was fueled by hate. I think most of these horrific crimes are driven by hate.

So, what do we do when discussing these tragedies? We hate on one another. Both sides firmly entrench themselves in the fox holes that they have dug for themselves and accusations are hurled like grenades, designed to inflict pain on the opposing point of view.

It seems to me that perhaps we should be looking for solutions to stop all the hate. That we should be working together to build social bridges rather than furthering the divide. But again, I am not as educated on these issues as most.

It's not even about gun control bro

But what I'm saying is that people make a big deal about the vetting process on this board.

Well the vetting process worked. This guy was being investigated twice. We KNEW about him already. But the Feds hands were tied because of policies.

For me, this isn't about "we need more guns" or "if we didn't have guns in this country".

It's strictly about the fact that known suspected terrorist are still allowed to get weapons. That's a HUGE problem.

As far as why?

Look at his sect. ISIS practices a radical version of Islam called jihad.

That tells you all you need to know. His dad said he hates when two guys kiss. So combined with his already warped mentality on religion, he hates gay people.

So this could be a terrorist/hate crime, as he specifically targeted that sort of scene.

As of this moment, we (the FBI) can put people on the NO FLY list if it's determined they may be lined with terrorists..

But, that same guy can buy a gun..

This whole situation really bothers me today. The fact a good majority of y'all argued over religious dogma, once again basically told Jules she's going to hell, and completely ignored the slaughtering of innocent people due to sexual orientation bothers me. Then the more public sphere we get imbeciles like Trump going off about guns, and many congratulating his irrational fear of all Muslims.

Telling people they're going to hell, encouraging constant hatred of a minority, and going off on rants about "liberals vs conservatives" does no good for anyone.

Stop it.

Since I live in the Orlando area, I have received this on blast nonstop on my TV since Sunday morning, Supposedly he called 911 before and claimed he was ISIS, and ISIS has claimed responsibility, maybe his personal vendetta against lgbt fueled it, but I think its still an act of terrorism with maybe personal motive outside of just religion, though it was done and claimed by religious fanatics. Everytime I listen to Obama talk, the more I realize he is the most unamerican president we've had in my lifetime. I can't wait till he no longer represents us. People talk about gun control, the bottom line is this, the bad guys will always have guns, you take away the guns from the good guys, and theres nothing left to protect themselves with. We don't need more control/legislation. That will never stop these lone wolf attacks. What we need is more citizens exercising their rights, getting educated on how to use. My opinion is there would be alot less of this if the bad guys knew there was a good chance they place they are going into could have multiple armed citizens. Maybe it's my Ranger mentality, but I always have my powder dry, and though I'm more relaxed now, I haven't forgotten how to be violent. People need to stop waiting on the government to protect them..That's what the constitution allows you to do, protect yourself, family and property.

Senseless tragedy that Obama couldn't even wait a day to turn it into a political platform. It's sickening. I've been in plenty of combat zones, but being in a place like that had to be surreal, boxed in a room, nowhere to go and no way to defend yourself. Atleast in war you have the ability to protect yourself. Acts of terror are so much worse, its cowardice. Its really time to start looking at who we allow into our country.

Want to know why I'm bothered? No, it's none of this "safe-space" crap getting slung around, so don't even go there. I worked with many in the LGBT community in Orlando, Florida.

Part of my life experience brought me to work at The Walt Disney World Resort, and I met many wonderful people there. During my time in Mickeyworld I met many cool individuals trying to make it for themselves from other nations, other college kids like me looking to get a foot in the door, and my first true experience of working with many LGBT individuals.

I read this news yesterday morning and immediately I thought "I hope none of my former coworkers, or anyone I knew from there, ended up as a victim of senseless murder". I just looked at the updated victim list, and no names jump out at me. Yet, soo man young lives lost over senseless murder.

----------------------------------------------

I credit that Walt Disney World work experience for a lot in my life. At the time I went there to get my foot in the door for engineering, but realized that I enjoyed working around people a heck of a lot more. Plus, profs in math and science at the University of Toledo suck at teaching.

Disney taught me about the "other", and more than just one "other". I learned much from others across the globe. I lived 1000 miles away from any family, and the prepared me for remote Alaskan living. Most importantly I learned to work with diverse people, and see them as humans.

Only through life experience do I learn more. Going out of my comfort zone, knowing others totally different than my own, and checking any judgement at the door goes a long way.

I truly encourage all of you to do the same..

So this is Obama's fault now?

An ISIS gunman attacks a large target of opportunity to slaughter the most people with the least effort which happened to be the large gathering of people on Gay Pride Day at this Club.

50 of our fellow citizens were murdered.

Everyone, including our President wants to make it a Political, Right vs Left thing as our enemy laughs at our foolishness.

For all of us, this is a time of mourning.

For our President it should be a time of reflection on how government failed us and what course of action is needed to silence our enemy!

So you say

Quote:
Everyone, including our President wants to make it a Political, Right vs Left thing as our enemy laughs at our foolishness.

and then follow it immediately with

Quote:
For our President it should be a time of reflection on how government failed us and what course of action is needed to silence our enemy!

that makes me think

to which essentially boils down to

but I'm quite sure this whole post, including the overall point

Very well said.
I think almost everything on the internet is a little fact mixed with a whole bunch of "right vs left" and "us vs them" and almost any discussion ends up with varying levels of loathing, fear and downright hatred

And why go all trump with the radical Islam, dude was American born and educated, never looks like he traveled overseas for training, didn't even make the claim to ISIS until he had his first shootout with police and was talking to dispatch when he was in the bathroom with the hostages roughly 20 minutes into the battle.
Why instead of going biblical on the victims, why doesn't somebody have a rational discussion on a person who had some mental issues (quick fits of rage, bi-polar) able to keep his job as a security guard-part of the time at a county courthouse in Ft. Pierce and part of the time since 2007 at a gated retirement community, had a Florida firearms permit and was still within the last 2 weeks able to buy a .223 and a 9mm even after the FBI investigations

Say what you gotta say. You be the main one talking about PC. Don't be PC now.
