I got my kicks on Route 66 this morning.

I took my Sigma f3.5 10-20mm lens to the Supulpa Route 66 Car Show. 100's of cars, lots of pictures, this is just one.

I loved the coloring on this one.

It had just started to rain when I went walking up to this one and the owner was beginning to cover it and saw me, he pulled the covering off and said, if you want to take a photo I'll remove this. Nice guy. Gorgeous hotrod.

This one I want to own.

Hard to get good shots at Dollywood; a lot of the rides sit tucked back in the woods away from the path. Here's the best I did from the other day.

Using a few posts for vacation photos.

Here's some from Kings Dominion:

I did time on Okinawa, saw the SR71 in the air and saw it take off once. Awesome to see.

I see your PDX bridge and raise you one.

For those not local, most of you, this is the Tillicum Bridge. Portland's pedestrian and mass transit only bridge. Opened just a few moths back.

I love the Tillikum bridge. Beautiful architecture and engineering. But, my personal favorite is the Fremont (yes, even more so than St. John's). Mainly because driving west bound on the Fremont is my favorite view of the skyline.

I had heard the lights on Morrison last night were going to be the rainbow flag to honor the victims of Orlando and stand united with the LGBT community. So, I went down to check them out. I took this photo from the Burnside bridge.

Thanks. I am rarely in the part of north Portland known as St Johns. It's in a part of town that's not on its way to anywhere. So the morning of this photo I knew I'd be there so I planned to take this shot ahead of time. Knowing I'd cross the bridge. It was taken through my windshield. Luck was on my side that I was alone on the road.

This is a buddy of mine that I hiked the Kalalau Trail with about 7 or 8 years ago. The trail is an 11 mile (one way, 22 mile round trip) very difficult hike along Kauai's Na Pali coast. The trail is considered one of the best hikes in the world. It's also considered one of the more difficult. It's the beaches and cliffs you see featured in the fly in scenes of Jurassic World. While beautiful it can be deadly. Many hikers have met their demise falling from the cliffs into the crashing surf below. There are areas of trail that are so narrow and on cliff's edge that your backpack scrapes the wall beside you on your left, and the cliff drops away 200' to your right....and the trail is slightly eroded and sloping. Totally exposed to the sun and wind. Then the trail bends and sends you into the jungle. Breezeless, bugs, humid. Six river crossings.... I had to do many of the river crossings twice as I'd have to cross with my 48 pound backpack on then go back to carry my (ex) wife's 35 pound pack across for her. There was a point on the trail, around one of the previously described cliffs, where she almost broke down in tears not wanting to hike that part, as if there were options. I had to do that part twice too. Carrying her pack. (Doing all the double duty on the trip out too.) Sound miserable?
It was amazing. Breathtaking. The beach at the end of the trail, Kalalau Beach is pristine. It can only be reached by foot. Or at certain times of the year, boat. We spent 4 nights camping. Collecting fruit from the trees, swimming, bathing under waterfalls, sharing the beach more with monk seals than humans. It was a top five accomplishment/vacation in my life.

It really is a cool bridge.
". The bridge was designed by internationally renowned engineer David B. Steinman and Holton D. Robinson, of New York City. At the time of construction it was the longest suspension-style bridge west of the Mississippi with a total length, exclusive of the roads, being just shy of 3,834 feet. The main span suspension is 1,207 feet, with each side span being 430 feet. The towers rise 400 feet and the spires on top are another 50 feet. The center span of the bridge rises 205 feet above the river. The bridge is reminiscent of a Gothic Cathedral."

I went out to a dark sky park in Geauga County the other night. I rested hope in trying to capture the Milky Way, but that didn't happen. Instead, I got a beautiful wide angle shot.

All of us saw the sea of people downtown from the overhead shots of the parade. Well, I'll take you "street level" from my position yesterday. I stood in the rally location, and just shot away. Many of my people shots came "blind" with just sticking the camera up in the air; I pressed the shutter button, and I hoped for the best.

The blimp, and chopper were shot with my viewfinder, obviously.

Took this shot of Vettel's Farrari darting out of the pits during the Montreal F1 race a couple of weeks ago.

I walked through all of that in sandals. Wasn't bad, but probably should've worn shoes at the very least.

Back when I had a Pentax Super Program (early 80's) I set up a feeder and crawled into the bushes behind it with my camera on a tripod and my remote cable so I didn't have to touch the camera. My fastest shutter speed on that camera was 1/2000th, the hummingbird came into view, I snapped the shot, of course this was film days and when I got back that roll printed it turned out fairly well except my 1/2000th could not stop the wings.

What shutter speed did you use for this fabulous photo?

1/800, F8, ISO 800. Handheld with a Sigma 150-600 Sports lens fully extended at 600mm. The hummingbird was about 10-12 feet away approaching the feeder. It's close enough where you can get a big subject in the frame for a good focus lock.
