I've not heard of it either, but it IS possible. Of course, if you're carrying concealed and the business/property owner sees your gun, well, you weren't concealing it very well.

The law that says its Illegal and you CAN be arrested for carrying in a place with a no gun sign...minus court of fed buildings.

I know people involved in case law on this very topic and dont want to waste a phone call if you can show me a specific law?? code number??

Again, I can only speak for Ohio. Open carry is legal in Ohio. In public. I'm almost certain the same thing applies though: If there's a "no guns allowed" sign on a business, open or concealed, LEGALLY, you're not allowed to carry in/on said property.

It's the same in OK and I'm sure in most other places as well. The property/business owner should have the right to say whether they allow weapons on their grounds. If you have the right to carry a gun and someone doesn't want you on their property, you have a right to go down the street and buy from someone else too.

Tulsa arrested?? Not saying anyone is wrong..just have not heard of it being Illegal to be there to the point of being arrested.

Or are people being courteous and not having people arrested??

Serious question.

Maybe I'm spitting hairs and while illegal not really enforced??

I can't give you the specific code/law right now.

I DID, however, just get off the phone with an NRA and Ohio certified CCW instructor, who is also heavily involved with Buckeye Firearms Association.

His exact words were (as you also stated, federal buildings, gov't. agencies etc) "If you carry in a building that has a sign prohibiting guns, (and you get caught, of course), you would be guilty of a minor misdemeanor. Would you be arrested? That depends, on you, the business owner, etc."

I've not heard of anyone being arrested before but how many CCL holders are going to ignore that sign? I think most are going to be considerate of others wishes as they agreed to abide by these laws when they got their CCL and if they aren't and try to force the issue they should have their CCL taken away, if not arrested. That's just plain ol' ignorant.

You sound like you know the gun game and you going to tell me there arent a metric crap ton of idiots with a ccw who have either been taught poorly or just plain dumb on what they should be doing??

Ive saw more then I care to admit...I was just curious on the code Id like to have read it.

Again, still can't post a link to the exact law, but, here's this. Way down at the bottom, under "Forbidden Carry Zones", you'll find "Any building or property listed as a 'no gun zone' "

I'm fairly certain I'm right about the illegality of carrying, concealed or not, into a business that has a no guns allowed sign posted.

Felony? No. Like I said, it's a minor misdemeanor.

Edited to say: I probably should have included the link.

Sorry man just cause they have a ccw means not much...Ive saw things said on this very board by a ccw that was just patently false.

All I'm saying is I've not run into it or heard about it happening around here. Certainly there are idiots in abundance just about everywhere and if they choose to be an idiot I think they should be arrested or at the very least stripped of their CCL because they are breaking the law.

Now if they pass the open carry where no license is needed, like they are trying to do here, all bets are off the table.

Tulsa if I'm coming across as confrontational or rude my bad man..I'm shell shocked from talking the gun stuff...and the misinformation out there is nothing short of astonishing.

And while my long term memory is ok my short term is terrible and I forget a lot. So its more of a clarification then thinking anyone is being misleading. I trust Arch on this stuff and I think he knows that.

Its in my nature to question and want specifics so dont take it personal Tulsa.

I believe the most you can be charged with for carrying in a signed gun free zone is criminal trespassing.

Which, if I'm not mistaken, is a minor misdemeanor.

Now, things can escalate, obviously, but, we were talking ONLY about carrying into a business with a "no guns sign"

I dunno how recent it's been since the last time you guys been out turning up, but clubs typically don't have enough security for the number of people inside.

This is normal, especially since most clubs don't plan for...I dunno... A self hating terrorist running through their club.

It's just something most people don't have to worry about. Also, the security typically don't carry, as there's plenty of law enforcement in the area(TYPICALLY, before somebody jumps on word play) that if something major happens they can respond quickly.

I don't go to clubs anymore, but I did. A few of the places had a bouncer or four. One checking ID's, the other two or three hanging in the corners.

Business can only do so much. They can't provide total security from some crackpot intent on burning the place down.

My question is this....at what point are some of these people going to fight back? I am serious and not just trying to sound "macho" on a message board.

49 died running from this punk ass Islamic terrorist. How might that have changed had 25 run at him with the intent to chop his head off?

Maybe it's just me, but if you are going to die, you might as well do it the right way. Warrior or Wuss....which is it?

At our hospital if someone carries we politely ask them to leave and come back when they at ot carrying while also calling security if they refuse....

Of course we have people who conceal carry all the time and most of the time never notice... But if one of our employees sees a gun we do ask them to remove it from our building and we do have signs posted. But to my knowledge we've never pressed charges for someone carrying.

I don't know how it works every where. But I do know, when I went to the hospital my son works at to get a key for his house, I walked in the e.r., through a metal detector

Then I was met by an armed security guard who questioned me as to why I was three. I explained. He then sent another guard to get my son.

Son came walking out and said, it's ok, he's my dad. Only then did the armed security guy take his eyes of me.

Criminal tresspass is not a "minor misdemeanor" it is a 4th degree misdemeanor that can carry up to 30 days in jail. A minor misdemeanor is a M5 and it is basically a ticket that you pay. You dont even have to go to court for it . Like disorderly conduct .

Not a single person from what I can see, not even the most ardent Christians on the boards are denying that fact. The problem comes to relevance. People keep bringing up the Crusades as if a) it was a one sided thing and b) as if it has anything to do with what's going on in the world today.

Throughout history both religion and greed have often been at the root of mankind's worst and lowest moments.

With all due respect, I think this is a straw man argument. It ignores some pretty essential and consequential facts:

a) Just about any reason imagineable (religious and not) has been used to justify mankind's lowest moments

b) that religion has also been the root of mankind's greatest and most charitable moments

and c) it ignores the fact that secular gov'ts have murdered hundreds of millions of innocent people throughout history.

So while you may feel it's unjust not to recognize that all religions have had their dark moments, IMO it's unjust to portray religion as the biggest perpetrators.

but religions are the biggest perpetrators.

religion is a tool to control the masses. control people's biggest fear: death and the idea of an afterlife, and you'll have them eating out of the palm of your hand and doing whatever it is you tell them to.

we got these crazy ass muslims in the middle east, the disgusting christian cults running around here in america, the sexual assault happy hindu's in india, the list goes on.

that you think it's somehow only boils down to "who's killed more than who" is the biggest straw man argument of them all, especially funny since you're claiming PDX is using one. it goes way beyond body counts, which is a disgustingly high number all by itself.

No, religions are NOT the biggest perpetrators. You keep parroting that but it's not factually correct. It doesn't matter how many times you repeat it, it is not true. Even if you combine the death toll under Muslims and Christians, it still doesn't even come close to the body count of your socialist and communist buddies: Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Che', Castro,(pick your favorite commie and/or South American dictator)... and that's within the last 100 yrs alone...

I only keep bringing this up because you keep asserting something that is not true.

I just watched a YouTube video yesterday and it demonstrates how easy you can conceal an AR, a pistol and tons of magazines filled with ammo in your regular ole jeans and t-shirt attire.

Sorry I don't have a link, but it's an eye opener. The guy moved around completely normal, and had over six plus magazines of ammo. As I said, an eye opener.

See, you keep only talking about death tolls, once again proving my point. It goes waaayyy past death tolls. How come you keep ignoring that?

But I get it, just cover your ears and scream "lalalalalala".

I conceal a full size 1911 most days and only had 1 time where a person brushed up against me and mustve felt the gun and gave me a look like she wanted to ask but didnt. I'm kind thin to but can easily conceal in t-shirt and shorts. Plus I make it a point to avoid printing and not fidgeting with the gun.

Actually if you pay attention it can be quite easy to spot who is carrying based off of mannerisms they are showing...how they walk and clothes not fitting the weather and they have a habit of fidgeting with the gun trying to keep it in place maybe due to a crummy holster or not having a holster at all.

Living in Tennessee I pretty much fit right in with the crowd. There's an overwhelmingly amount of people who carry here.

I carry a full government model 1911 (nice choice with the 1911, BTW) and feel like most have no idea it's on me in public. But, it's different concealing that than a rifle as the video demonstrates.

You know whats funny...before I got sick I would get watched like a hawk man...you saw pics of me Pit I'm tatted up right good. I accepted that as a problem I'd have with my choice to tatt up my body where it cant be covered with out sleeves and collared shirt.

The last year or so I have to use a cane to walk and can be real gimpy looking even with the cane depending on how I feel that day or how much Ive done. Now its like I get overlooked or people feel sorry for the gimpy dude no matter the look I project when not covering up.

Not real relevant to the convo but made me think about it with what you posted.

Hey Dawg, I wasnt trying to imply that at all...Ive watched tons of these videos and maybe I'm more aware or cognizant of it...due to training and just being paranoid about peoples intentions and I watch people when I'm out. A ton of people just arent aware at all.

Thanks on the compliment I like the 1911 quite a bit when it doesnt jam willynilly Kidding on the last part kind of tongue

I've never owned a gun in my life, have never pulled the trigger on a shotgun. When I went into the service it was the first time I ever shot a gun with a real bullet rather than a pellet or a BB. I qualified Marksman with an M16. But so did everybody else.

But when I got back from Vietnam I was assigned to a motor pool in an MP Battalion. One day they all had to go to the firing range to qualify with their weapons, the .45 cal.

Since so many MP's were on the job at the time and they had a quota to fill they came to the motor pool and took the two of us who were E-5's and made us qualify with them. I qualified Expert. Out of 250 MP's in the Battalion at the top of the list of qualifiers was the First Sgt. The second one was the other guy from the motor poll and I was third on the list.

I never fired a gun again until last summer when while visiting a friend his neighbor allowed me to fire two of his pistols while he was target practicing. I don't know what they were, I don't know guns at all.

But since this Orlando incident I have been very seriously considering buying a .45 and getting qualified for a concealed carry. I did't know it was called a 1911. Now I do.

I carry all kinds of guns...but I'm partial to the 1911. IF you follow through go to a range that rents different guns and get one you feel comfortable with...man opinions vary on this but dont get caught up in caliber...big bullet big hole...but Ive always believed more in shot placement and having enough readily available ammo also being comfortable with the gun you carry..last, shoot it then shoot it some more...then hey..shoot more.

Ive talked to tons of people who told me their doing the same thing youre contemplating...women mostly.

just kidding.

Good advice on trying them out. I always felt the .45 was a bit heavy, but it's been a long time. I wasn't caught up in the big bullet, I was caught up in qualifying Expert with no practice. I always chalked that up to me and that pistol being a good fit.
