I recommend you at least give this pistol a try. The Ruger P-89.

It has since been replaced by the Ruger P-85.

Now it's only a 9mm but you can buy ammo that gives it a big punch.

As has been said, the important thing is that it's something you feel very comfortable with.

As a personal preference, I like a gun with less recoil. It allows you to regain control quicker in order to be faster with accuracy for your next shot.

I've had both the 9mm and 45 at the same time and shot both a lot. What I found was that it was far quicker for me to recover and be ready to accurately get off the next round with the 9mm because the 45 had more recoil.

Like I said, preference varies from person to person, but I find the Ruger to be reasonably priced, very accurate and the 9mm I believe gives me a better chance at more accurate shots in a shorter period of time in the case of emergency.

That's fine. But I bought up some Black Talons and it packs quite a punch. Any shredder round in a 9mm will stop someone cold if you can shoot worth a damn. lol

This is my choice for 9mm. The Springfield XDM, double stacked. For carry you can use the standard configuation of 13/1 or you can get the extension mag with it if you like a longer grip and of course it's a 19/1 configuration this way.

I carry one at times in 9mm sub-compact.

I got my wife an XDs and for carry it's really nice, thin and light.

My wife carries the same...and has The Shield she likes also.
