The James Shields trade looked okay at the time. I can't believe how bad he's been since joining the Sox though. Actually, "bad" doesn't properly describe how bad he's been. I almost feel bad for him (not the Sox though).

Well, what do you do with Naquin if/when Brantley returns, and Dr. Smooth starts to produce.
I'm in favor of keeping him, but I wonder if we could acquire a shut down reliever for him.

Chisenhall bats .275, and has an on-base percentage of .375. He's doing his job. You need to understand those are average stats. The 90s inflated stats won't ever come back.

I'll be surprised if Brantley ever comes back for any length of time. The way he had the off-season to recover and was immediately reinjured when he tried to return looked bad.
Hope I'm wrong. (obviously, as Brantley was touted as the Indians best player)

The 90s inflated stats won't ever come back. i'm not talking about his bat, his glove is suspect, he's not an outfielder as much as tito tries to make him one, he can't be worse than uribe at 3rd, and i bet he can play 1st. my point is in the outfield he's the weak link, you don't take guy doing very well and replace him just because someone else comes back..Especially since Lonnie can play other positions..to be honest if brantley comes back strong i can see us holding on to Naquin and maybe something done with Rajai

Thanks a bunch. Knew I could count on you to point this out. I still disagree on your MLB cap argument, but that'll never change. ------------------------- Although, one question: Think the Indians should do anything at the deadline, or leave the pieces in place? I can't see a good option to do anything. Our two young bats in the farm system still need another year and a half to another a year, and I like the chemistry we've got. We could use a stout reliever in the pen, but the price would be too high in assets. Unless you think different?

I would hesitate to trade Naquin. He is a solid fielder in the outfield, and he seems to have really good bat control. He was never a guy with a huge amount of power in the Minor League, but he spent this off-season really working on his strength, and added about 10# of muscle, and added serious pop to his bat. This did not slow down any other aspect of his game. Most importantly, he has not let his new found pop affect his overall batting approach, and continues to hit for average as well. In fact, he is even proving to be a bad ball hitter. Think about that HR he hit on a pitch about 6 inches off the ground. lol He plays well in the field, as his .986 fielding % attests. I really hoped that Naquin would earn a spot in spring training and he has .... and he has exceeded even my best hopes. Much as has happened with Lindor, his power has come in the Majors.
I sure hope the Tribe doesn't decide to give this kid away to another team who will watch him really blossom. He very well could be our CF next year.
Think about this as well ..... if Abraham Almonte hadn't been suspended for PED, Naquin probably never would have had a chance to make the team at all. Almonte may not even have a job when he returns from suspension, as things stand now.

I still disagree on your MLB cap argument, but that'll never change. Yes, let's give more money to the billionaire owners and less to the players! Think the Indians should do anything at the deadline, or leave the pieces in place? Mid-level bullpen pieces are pretty easy to come by at the trade deadline and they don't usually cost much (the Pirates got Joakim Soria for basically nothing last year, same goes for the Nats and Papelbon, Cishek to the Cardinals, etc.). The Indians could definitely use someone similar to that. They won't be able to afford one of the Yankees' guys (Miller or Chapman), but they might be able to get someone like Ryan Madson or Will Smith (among many other available relief pitchers). I don't know the Indians' farm system at all, but the biggest position players out there right now are Jonathan Lucroy, Ryan Braun, Jay Bruce, Josh Reddick, anyone from the Braves not named Freddie Freeman, and any Padre. If I were the Indians I would probably go after a corner bat. They are basically playing one replacement level player in the outfield every game (Ramirez/Davis). The player that best fits what the Indians do and who is available is Josh Reddick. He'll be a free agent after 2017 and Oakland will trade for lower level minor leaguers with high potential.

Teams like the Indians don't trade players like Naquin. He is good, cheap, and in the Majors.
