With the current talk (well, it's constant on this board) of Cleveland's sports past, and the Cavs on the verge of another possible moment OR breaking the curse .... which one of the moments was your personal worst? We all know the list ...

Red Right 88
The Drive
The Fumble
89 AFC Title loss
The Shot
The Move
97 Indians
The Decision
15 Cavs Title loss

I was not alive for half the list, but for me the Move destroyed me. I was about 8 years old and was just growing into my love for the Browns. That really derailed my childhood to be honest.

Not only did I see everything on your list. I also saw the 1964 Browns Championship.

Red Right 88 was a divisional playoff game. Had we won we would still have had to go to San Diego to play Dan Fouts, Kellen Winslow, Charley Joiner, John Jefferson, Chuck Muncie, etc. They were an offensive juggernaut - remember Air Coryell? So yeah, RR-88 was a brutal loss, but it didn't necessarily cost us a SB appearance.

The three years after the move. (No Browns' games every week for four months)

What a bummer. Made for a long listless fall.

Being in CT having to listen to Giants fans, Patriots fans and Jets fans be all excited about their teams.

It was more than 35 years ago - perfectly understandable mistake. FWIW, RR88 was my worst too, but only because it was the first of so many. I was still relatively unscarred ("all in") when that one happened. I'm much more cautious now.

The Move is the obvious one. Nothing compares to the team moving.

But, if I had to pick a loss it would have to be "The Fumble". Why? I was 12 when RR88 happened. I was bummed but, I was still young and only a kid. The Drive happened my senior year in high school and it was such a gut punch. The following year everybody was convinced it was our year and we would correct the mistakes of the past. It was also our time for retribution against a familiar foe. As with this series...we fell behind and then clawed our way back. Momentum was on our side and then...it disappeared.

Ummm...after typing this I am beginning to see some similarities with tonight's game. Hopefully this isn't a prelude for what will happen today... ooo

After last night, it's all in the past now. Brian Sipe, Craig Ehlo, Jose Mesa, Earnest Byner, Dwayne Rudd, Derrick Anderson, Dennis Northcutt & Lebron himself can all be forgiven, except art....screw him.

For me, none of that matters.

It's like a guy dying of a snake bite receiving a massive dose of anti-venom. The poison is gone.

I saw someone call this "The Redemption" ..... and I like that a lot. It fits, because Lebron returned to Cleveland ..... and redeemed his "Decision", by bringing a Championship back to Cleveland.

Yes, so many horror shows in the past .... and none of them matter anymore. Cleveland is now the City of Champions. Celebrate Cleveland. No city deserves it more!

Still matters to me! Until I see a shinny new Lombardi trophy in the Brown's trophy case that is.

The shot, because as a kid I was a complete Cavs fanatic.

But even more than that, the Move. Because then I didn't like sports anymore. Plus, we're still suffering from the move.

#1 The Move
It was heart wrenching to see my beloved Browns move and realize that the team that would replace them 4 seasons later would be such a mess.

#2 The Drive
We were 98 yards and 5 and half minutes away from going to a Super Bowl. We even had the Broncos in a 3rd and 18 situation and couldn't get a stop.

#3 The Fumble
Just because of what it did to Byner's life and football career.

I agree. As bad as the others were, the move really ripped out the heart and left a hole, that never really got filled back up like the old times.

The move was different than a sporting competition. I kind of put that into a separate category.

The drive was just surreal. It was like an out of body experience.

But as far as just crushing me: it was the fumble.

I never saw the ball come out (at first). I thought he was in. There was all kind of noise going on.

After the 1986 season I thought the Browns were the best team in football. In my mind the drive was just one of those oddities.

I felt 1987 would be redemption. When that game ended I told myself that I would never allow myself to get that low again from a sporting event.

And to a degree it worked. I still get crazy watching sports. But since the fumble I get over things quicker.

It is very cool that the Cav's have won. But for me it has to be the Browns. The Indians winning would be over the top but I need the Browns to win a championship so I can die in peace.

The fumble was like dying of a massive heart attack, the move was like dying of cancer. Either way you're dead but dragging it out like was done with the move was awful.

The move was obviously the worst, just because even in the most heartbreaking loss, you can always look forward to next year. Not so much with the move, on top of the fact that they were replaced with dog-poo (the only person on the planet that doesn't realize this is David Modell)

As far as on the field failures, nothing compares for me like '97. I was 16, too young to really understand the failures of the Bernie Browns, or even the Price Cavs. I, like every other kid in Cleveland was so attached those Indians teams of the mid to late 90's. They were like super heroes. It's funny if you ever talk baseball with people outside of Cleveland they talk about how that era was carried by the McGuire and Sosa race, but really not in Cleveland. The entire town were behind those teams. You've seen it with the Cavs the last few years, but it's more impressive in baseball when 81 times a year that building was filled to capacity.

Still mind boggling to think a team could blow a shot like that, but that's baseball I guess. The 2007 Indians collapse should probably be on the list too. 3-1 lead against Boston with a game at home, and your ace (Sabathia) taking the mound. He was horrible that entire series.

I really like how this current tribe team is rounding in to shape, maybe they can ride some of the magic.

Was not alive for Red Right 88, but I've seen the play a bunch of times, and I just didn't understand the call. I get that people will tell you that was a free and loose team that lived and died on the edge, but maybe run a bit of a safer play lol

IIRC, Don Cockcroft had already missed two PAT's - he had a back injury, I read afterward - and Sam was not willing to leave it to him to kick a FG. The most annoying thing is Dave Logan was reportedly uncovered in the right corner of the end zone on the play, but Brian was looking Ozzie the whole way.

Red Right 88 was the end of my first season as a Browns fan...as long as it's been that memory is rather misty (thankfully).

I've read several accounts of Dave being open also.

If I had to pick a 'worst' memory I'd have to say The Decision, that one stung the worst but really it's been erased now. grin

I remember RR88 like it was yesterday. Well, my breakdown after the interception. I remember crying my 8-year old eyes out for 20+ minutes. My mom came over and said something that I would grow to despise..."There's always next year." It's a great feeling to not hear that after a Cleveland season has ended.

I've lived through most of it all and the 97 WS was the worst for me. We were TWO FREAKING OUTS away. Two. The Drive, The Fumble, NorthCutt's drop, The Shot, the ECF Bulls loss, and everything else were days, games, or multiple series away from winning it all. You can't get much closer to the final prize as we were in 97. I know it sounds dumb, but a piece of me died that night*. It was so odd, I just laid down on my couch under my Tribe blanket and fell asleep in 2 minutes. As if, I willed my body to immediate sleep because I needed that day to end right then, no matter what.

As bad as the Move was, we were getting a team back and with our colors and history. It sucked, but we'd eventually be whole again.

*That part of me healed last Sunday

My best man and I went to Damon's Steak House over in Pickerington (if you look at a map, see Columbus and look to the right just a little bit) for the '95 series. That was my 'bachelor party'.
My wife was carrying our first child during the '97 series, she was telling me how Orel Hershiser would sing hymns on the mound to keep his nerves.

But anyway, WE'RE CHAMPIONS NOW!
