Davone Bess Arrested After Standoff
GILBERT, Ariz. » Former NFL and University of Hawaii wide receiver Davone Bess has been arrested after a standoff with police at his suburban Phoenix home.

Gilbert police say Bess fled a traffic stop in Gilbert early Monday.

Police Sgt. Jesse Sanger says Bess barricaded himself in his car and then his home.

Sanger says a SWAT team entered after obtaining a warrant.

Bess is being held on one felony count each of endangerment, flight and failure to stop for a police officer.

Police did not say why he was initially stopped.

The 30-year-old was released as the Cleveland Browns wide receiver in 2014 after less than a year.

While in Cleveland, he was arrested for assaulting a law enforcement officer.

Bess also played for the Miami Dolphins from 2008 to 2012 after being picked up as an undrafted rookie out of UH.

It is really sad how his life and career kind of fell apart.

I hope that he finds peace in his life. It is obvious that there is something not quite working for him mentally and/or spiritually.

Definitely. I remember when he was supposed to be a leader in the locker room (and a reliable receiver). Didn't work out that way in both regards.

That's not necessarily the reason, but I think he's got mental problems, and the pot probably isn't helping.

Ya, we all was excited when we got him from what most of us took as a "steal", until the reasons were laid out. He had issues back in Miam before we acquired him.

We took another team's trash and the result of it is... it arrived and stunk up the place. Sounds like he'll have some "me" time while in his jail cell. Hopefully he gets it together.

Our FO should draft LBJ to play tight end or whatever. He may be out walking on Lake Erie for all I know, but he can do anything he sets his mind to do.
