Also, it's easy to say this now, but Dan Gilbert has to be one the best Cleveland sports franchise owners in city history right? Dude is the perfect example of going all in.
I would take it beyond just what he has done as far as sports(two titles to Cleveland) but also what he has done for the city is amazing as far as development.
You may be in the drivers seat but God is holding the map. #GMSTRONG
I think Mo Williams opted into his player option too, so technically that was piece one.
McRae was on a minimum salary and by picking up the option, they get to keep him for the cheapest amount possible.
Also not mentioned in a few of the articles above ... I think James Jones is a FA. As is Dahntay Jones. Naturally, if Lebron wants JJ to sign again, we'll probably have to throw him a vet minimum again. At this point though, he should probably be a coach.
Looking at the team salaries, you know what's crazy. Kyrie only makes about 500k a year more than TT does. Kevin Love makes about $6 million more a year. I guess big guys get paid more.
I also wonder what JR will command. Shump got a "starter's" salary of around $10M a year and JR immediately got all of his minutes.
Micah 6:8; He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.
John 14:19 Jesus said: Because I live, you also will live.
Who's going to take him off our hands at $10M a year? We're probably better off holding onto him an hoping he regains his defensive form/learns not to dribble and shoot.
yeah the shump contract was in the realm of the varejao contract in terms of being bad. I could see the possibility of wade coming here maybe to play with lebron and JR back to the bench (pipe dream) but how sweet would that be? I think you got to dump guys like d. jones, j. jones, you only get 15 spots and you kinda need them to be productive. We have enough veterans on the team now that we dont need to have them on the bench not playing, but i think theres a place for james jones in the organization if he wants it.

I agree, I don't mind a couple vets coming off the bench and providing locker room support but I'd like some young fresh legs over there too that bring a skill set other than "leadership" to the team..
Decent ^video^ but IMHO too much slow-motion...Also, they could have added a bit more of the very end of game 7. ________________________________________________
I like this one better, but it's only of the last game:
I'm very torn. I want to keep this core together to defend and I don't really care about Gilbert's money so spend all you want. Having said that, I'm sure he cares about his money and I doubt he's going to continue to spend like a drunken sailor. I just don't know if we can keep all of these salaries and continue to be competitive. It almost feels like when LeBron left, we had no avenue to get better so he took his ball and bailed. We won't have that issue for a couple of more years presumably but when he's done are we going to be stuck with Kyrie and Love and nothing else?
I posted this without clarifying that if that's the price of this year's win, it's totally worth it, just kind of bummed that we may have issues sustaining success as a team like San Antonio seems to do...
I'm not torn. Stop worrying about the future and enjoy the present.
You mention San Antonio, but we haven't really see them after Duncan leaves. This was Duncan's probably worst year of his career and the Spurs got bounced in the 2nd round. You ride out Lebrons legacy and let the chips fall where they do.

I get your point but the way my mind works, a week ago was the past, I'm worrying about the present. LOL
I think it may finally hit me when the Browns are down 2 touchdowns in the fourth quarter of a game and CBS can't run the timeline of terror graphic that they always do.

How is it crazy? And how is about big guys getting paid more? The fact is that timeline of when the deals were made. Just watch how many players get max deals this year.
And if guys like you, lead, candy, Swish, etc still don't get how valuable TT is............then you will never get it.
I can't imagine how confident and free this team is going to feel heading into next season. Golden State had their aura of invincibility taken from them. Now it belongs to Lebron.

I understand lol
I just keep telling people that rather we like him or not, Lebron is our Michael Jordan. We will never have a greater player than him. He is the franchises Mount Rushmore. So I say just enjoy his reign
just kind of bummed that we may have issues sustaining success as a team like San Antonio seems to do...
If LeBron and Kyrie would sign long term deals for $12 million a year like Duncan and Parker have done for years, we could sustain success like that...

Okay, so that answers that question. Kyrie sort of did that by taking a max deal a couple of years out from the big money hitting but LeBron never will. Not that I blame him, again he deserves every penny if that's what someone is willing to pay him.
I would probably let Delly and JR walk. It's also a shame we are on the hook for Shumpert
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."
LeBron James opts out of contract; no timetable on re-signing with Cavs
Cleveland Cavaliers LeBron James is opting out of his contract to become a free agent with there being no timetable on re-signing. CLEVELAND, Ohio – To no one's surprise, Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James has elected to decline his 2016-17 player option to become an unrestricted free agent for the third straight off-season, his agent Rich Paul informed cleveland.com.
However, the 31-year-old will either re-sign with the NBA Champions for another one-year term or accept a multi-year deal once the free-agency frenzy begins on July 1.
James had a player option deadline of June 29.
Paul says there isn't a decision yet and added there is no timetable for when James will ink his deal. James is turning down a $24 million salary for a pay raise that will take him closer to $30 million with the salary cap hike of $70 million to $94 million.
James announced he was returning to Cleveland moments before last week's championship parade.
"I love it here. I love being here. I love my teammates," James told cleveland.com days after leading the franchise to its first championship. "Obviously my agent will take care of all the logistical things, but I'm happy. I've got no plans to go nowhere at this point."
The four-time MVP possesses a 13-year career average of 27.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and 6.9 assists. ESPN's Chris Broussard first reported James' opt-out decision.
So apparently the Knicks only traded for Rose to clear cap space..
For 2017.
So that they can sign Dewayne Wade, Chris Paul, and LeBron James..
If that wasn't ridiculous enough for you. Know that in 2017 the youngest of those 4 (with Melo) will be 32 at the time..
Yeah, I actually heard that a few days ago. The media will trip over themselves trying to get Lebron into New York or LA.
I think the biggest thing with lebron is he doesn't need or care about the big markets, He's a big fish in any pond, and his pond covers the earth. The LA/NY markets need lebron ALOT more than he needs them, theres nothing they can give him he can't already get or already has, so he wants to go one of the two worst run teams in the last 10 years for what? He's got a young team, coming off a ring, has a FO and ownership group that has no qualms about spending whatever it takes (looking at you Mickey). But i guess if they couldn't talk about lebron leaving then they'd have nothing to fill offseason with

I think lebron opting out was expected, he can make more money...a no brainer. I think he may wait to sign to allow cavs to fill some holes first, then he can sign for whatever allowing cleveland to go over the cap, i think its an extra 20+ million this year, we can't do alot but we might be able to work some sign and trades with mosgov etc move some pieces around and fix the end of the roster. I think Delly, J. Jones, D. Jones, Mosgov are all gone. Which is fine, they didn't really contribute much in the finals and a guy like mosgov who needs to be in a half court offense. I think the guy we drafted or Cook/McRae/Mo can fill the backup PG no problem. If RJ backtracks and retires then we need another SF with the MLE..if theres one thing we can improve on from last year is bench production, we get just a leeeettle bit more from the bench and we can rest guys a little more.

I agree that based on value, LeBron should be the highest paid player in the NBA.. on the flip side, with the hundreds of millions he's made and his billion dollar Nike deal, if he wants to compete for championships for the next 5 or 6 years in Cleveland, signing a deal that allows them to go get another $10 million/year guy would go a long way.
I understand Kyrie, he hasn't made nearly as much as LeBron and will never make the endorsement money LeBron is making so I kind of understand him wanting to max out his deal.. same with Tristan Thompson..
Yeah, I kind of agree. While Lebron is certainly entitled to make every buck he can get, his $6 million more in salary this year is $24 million ($6 million in salary, $18 million in luxury taxes) in real money Gilbert has to pay if I understand correctly. And his most recent contract extension with Nike (lifetime deal) is worth over $1,000 million. $6 million is a drop in the bucket.

It doesn't really matter when he signs. We're already well over the cap, and we still have a "cap hold" value for Lebron's salary so long as we have the rights to him. So, it's not like we can sneak in some free agents under the cap before Lebron signs.
We're pretty much restricted to an MLE contract and vet minimums. I think you're pretty dead-on with the RJ situation. If he does retire, we probably have to get his replacement with the MLE.
We'll probably offer Delly a qualifying offer, but if anyone offers something larger, I doubt we match. Someone will offer him something, so my guess is that he's gone. We've got replacements in line for him anyway.
Mosgov will probably test free agency, and I highly doubt we'd offer anything close to what he can get there so he's probably gone. We do sort of have need for a big man though, so I'm not sure how we replace him though.
J.Jones will likely be back on a vet minimum unless he retires (which he probably should). He's Lebron's guy, and he's happy to take a minimum contact.
