Well sometimes it's actually legitimate for both sides to do such.

I pulled this opening sentence out as I think it worth noting that, unlike the other examples he gives (Venezuela, Syria, ISIS. Afghanistan)...no, of course Brexit isn't anything comparable to these situations.

However, for us in America to ignore it or to say "get on with it" is cold, callous and quite frankly, ignorant.

The UK has been divided very bitterly by this vote. Their far right are pouring into the streets and tempers are rising. The British pound is at a 30 year low, the government is in complete turmoil and most financial experts are predicting a recession. As I pointed out in another post above...London is the European financial capital. It is one of the main economies in the world. There is no way we wont be affected by the Brexit shockwaves.

Also, Britain is one of the oldest democracies and their government and civilization is a model to most countries. Now, before some of you go off on your high horse about what a democracy is and start saying this or that...spare me. I know the differences between the American style of democracy and Britain's. For all intent and purposes the UK is still a democracy no matter how loose or exact your interpretation of the word is. Nevertheless, as an old yet, civilized country its downfall should be viewed as a worry. This isn't, nor can it be, compared to Venezuela or Afghanistan or some lawless group of warriors like ISIS. We have never seen it in our lifetime. The British Empire began to lose its grip around the time of the first World War and by the end of WW2, it was still symbolic but its influence and reign was finished and the American Empire replaced it. Obviously two major wars, rebuilding many cities etc. took its toll.

For its government to be in this much turmoil it is a first in our life time. What will happen, nobody knows. To blow it off and say "everything will be fine" is ignorant because again, nobody knows. To immediately say "doom and gloom" is arguably also ignorant however, looking at what is currently happening it is understandable that folks are worried and freaking out. It looks like the break down of their society and their economy. It will be far reaching.

The only comparison I think would be when the Berlin Wall came down. Yes, Germany and Russia rebounded but, nobody in 1989 or 1990 knew what to expect. There was a lot of joy in Germany but still uncertainty. In Russia there was a lot of heartache and immediate pain as the economy collapsed and the people had nothing. The difference in the UK is half the people are celebrating while the other half are worried and this has broken morale and has deeply divided the country. This cannot be understated nor just blown over as "Brits making a mountain out of a molehill".

Also, it is probably a hint at what we will see in November. No matter who you will vote for we have two very divisive candidates. Many will be upset no matter what the result is. I find it very troubling that Europe, the UK and the US are all experiencing such deep divisions amongst their own people.

What you fail to understand about people is no matter if you control the Press, have all of Hollywood's stars and all of the government on your side, make great speeches about diversity and inclusion or call those who disagree with your agenda bigots and racists and all other kinds of vile names,

People will nod to keep from confrontation but in truth, people are like springs. The harder you push them down the harder they will eventually push back.

I see it with the Brits and I see it with the Americans.
Enjoy the upcoming ride.

Every time I wade into one of these threads, I'm reminded of something I heard/read many, many years ago. I wish I could take credit for the quote, but I know that I read it at a time when I was incapable of forming such a thought:

"All politics is global... and all politics is personal."

The credit must go to someone else... but I'm not above appropriating a truism, and allowing it to inform my world view.

And it's no more evident/apparent/"in my face," than when I read these threads.

I can pretty much predict who will say what... and which posts will provoke each of My Fellow Dawgs to contribute. It's why I've backed waaaaay (tf) off from these conversations, lately: I already 'know' all you guys and gals... and you already know me. Y'all ain't giving me no recent surprises, and I'm still the same Clemdawg you've always known- so I've lost a lot of my interest in the "give & take" in the last several months.

Allow me to suss out who I am in 5 bullet points:

1. I believe in the existence of God/A Higher Power. That belief gives order and structure to my life, and compels me to be a better person.

2. I believe that ALL established religious institutions have, at their core, a fatal flaw in either conception or realization. Blame it on Man's fallibility, 'Adam's fall from Grace," the influence of Satan, or what have you- Mankind's interpretation of The spiritual Message is corrupt... and only The Individual can truly know (and hear) the ways in which God speaks upon his/her heart.

3. I believe that what each individual hears when God/A Higher Voice/The Ultimate Truth speaks to him/her, (s)he hears it through the lens of life experience...and as such, throws every word out to others with a personal bias attached to the message.

4. I believe that politics, religion, morality, ethics, etc are always measured, adopted, and promoted from a personal P.O.V.... and that none of us has a deadbolt lock on The Ultimate Truth.

5. I believe that these conversations are less 'open talks,' and more 'ideological supremacy fights'... because each and every one of us posters has an ego which we seek to bolster/defend/reinforce/resist/promote with every word we hear and utter- and because we need to think we are important to others. We each NEED to be important to others- be they adversary or ally- on whatever issue is at stake... because without that, how do we each define ourselves TO ourselves?

____________

So go on with y'all's bad selves.
I love My Dawgs, but y'all have worn me (tf) out- by simply being so consistently, so relentlessly- you.

I'll continue to lurk these threads, but I'll rarely show my face, unless:

1. A conversation pops up that shows me an intellectual/emotional angle that reveals new layers of My Peeps.
2. My own ego compels me to add my voice to a thread (which will automatically make me the kind of poster I need distance from).

Hey- I never said I was better than you, did I?

I'm officially on 'fast scan mode' as of now.

I'm leaving this forum, one thread at a time... and it doesn't even hurt.
That reality in and of itself kinda sucks. A small part of me is gonna miss these silly 'talking points' fights.... but only a small part.

I can't wait to see how the rest of me adjusts to this new personal paradigm....

peace/out,

As always, the market in the USA finds it's way. Still pretty early in all this, but already, after dropping 600+ points on Friday and then dropping another 200+ points on Monday, the Dow climbed by 269 points yesterday.

And I have no idea if that means anything, just thought I'd point it out..

You are talking of the generation of youth who spread sexually transmitted diseases throughout society culminating in the Aids epidemic of the 80's? The generation that lead us into the drug addicted society we call home today?

Yea, we were young and we were stupid. Hopefully, those of us who survived it, have matured to realize the err of our ways instead of making excuses for it. Hopefully we can save our children and grandchildren from what we started and warn the stupid generation of today that what they think is progressive may have consequences beyond their control.

Can you save us from all the debt/deficit that you started? Also, in that list of heroes you named, there was not one boomer...

I think the funny part about it is that every single generation seems to think that it's everyone else's fault. You do have to admit though, that the popular thing right now is to blame the millenials, right or wrong.

Talking about republican Jesus could get you banned on this board, bro. Supply side don't play that.

It means that people that were trying to prove their point based solely on two days of stock market results should never play the market. Stock market results are one of those values that should be graded over years, not days. It's kind of like the NFL draft. If you make a snap judgement over a few practices, none of your first round picks will ever come to fruition.

?? He's talking about the US market specifically. Cool your jets.

Besides, making snap judgements is how day trading works. Obviously you don't know much about the market at all.

Neither do I, but I at least get the basics. Hello that's how I paid for my first bimmer. Straight cash from the market.

Anyway, and then there's this article:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2016...-following-bre/

Ewwww stripped of their rating and lost 100 billion pounds? Sucks bro.

Once again, you and others that are pushing a panic because of 2 days of trading are the ones that either don't understand the market, or are trying just to prove a point.

I know enough about that market to know that if you do day trading, you can make a little money in a hurry, but if you do long term trading, you can make a lot of money over time. Congrats for getting lucky at least once, as it's the same as betting on a 200/1 horse and getting it right.

Their currency and ratings will recover over time, and that will probably happen in less than a year.

Well said, Clem. I left the "Primaries" thread a while ago as I realized it was going nowhere other than on a spin cycle. No real dialogue was happening other than opinion. I am sure I am just as guilty as the next. But, unlike one's dinner table or at a bar where you have body language, nuance, emphasis and mutual respect with the friends or family you are talking to...even if you disagree there is a basic understanding of the other point of view, maybe an enlightened moment where something makes sense that never did before but, above all else...a mutual respect. Once I saw guns being discussed and images posted on the Orlando thread...that was me done there too. Not even fast scanning that one. Done.

I got sucked into this thread as I was fascinated by the Brexit vote and now I feel worry and sorrow for a nation, culture and people I have come to understand very well. Worry for what is around the corner (it could all be fine...but, we don't know) and sorrow for the hatred and division that is now coming out between the small majority that wanted to leave and the large minority that wanted to stay as well as the ugly face from the extreme right who are now spilling out into the streets. I also see the USA reflected in the Great British mirror. The division that we see there is/has happened here and it even plays out in this forum. It may only get worse depending on who is elected.

Long story short, Clem...I totally get what you are saying above and I empathize with your stance.

I was about to say the same thing, but you got it first.

Nobody here in America is panicking. I'm personally enjoying this because my next euro vacation I'm going to ball out of control. I made that clear early in this thread.

The only people panicking are in Europe. Specifically the same country that voted to bounce in the first place.

You are missing the point when it comes to Brexit.

It is not about Hate. It is about the Silent Majority having been oppressed by the Left for so long that they have had enough and are springing back against all resistance. This Majority is not doing well under your rule and will now put an end to it.

You can't say that, you can not have an opinion that disagrees with the agenda the Left is pushing. Resistance is Futile as your opinions are shut out of the Press and you are called vile names for daring to have an opinion.

What we are witnessing in my opinion is "The Western Spring", just like the "Arab Spring" before it.

Trump is a symptom of this revolt, Brexit is a continuation of it. There will be more to come as the common folk stand up and say fix this mess or come down here with us!

This is History in the making, fast scan or hide from it if you like but it will be the defining event of this Century.

The silent majority are crying about their decision already. Like a spoiled kid who had it good but thought the world was against them. The people in Scotland and Northern Ireland are in panick mode, because their economy was crap before they became part of the EU.

And now the leavers in England are going"I didn't know there would be consequences to my actions"!!! Like a teen who got knocked up her junior year.

You keep ignoring that, so I'll keep bringing it up until you acknowledge it.

Grass ain't always greener.

Interesting comparison you have made there. The Arab Spring and its consequences are still playing out and so far it has not been too good.

If that is what Trump brings with your so called "uprising"...

...no thanks.

The Arab Spring has been an absolute train wreck. So many people have died and it doesn't show any signs of the death toll slowing down. It's been an absolute cluster for ANY nation to get ahold of this carnage.

But 40 predictions are terrible, so let's hope he's completely wrong on this British spring or whatever he wants to call it.

Interesting. I remember some on this board using the small drop in currency as proof that the Brexit vote was the wrong vote. That's what I mean by 'panicking'. If you base your opinions on the vote being right or wrong on two days of trading, then you are definitely one of those 'panickers'.

We are witnessing the rise of the Silent Majority in the Western World and they are not concerned with economics and political standings. They are throwing a hard punch to the establishment nose, even if they end up losing the fight, they will be heard.

You can't say that.
You can't do that.
You are this and that vile name.
You are stupid and ignorant.
Your voice will be silenced.

Interesting. I remember some on this board using the small drop in currency as proof that the Brexit vote was the wrong vote. That's what I mean by 'panicking'. If you base your opinions on the vote being right or wrong on two days of trading, then you are definitely one of those 'panickers'.

\
Well, first of all, having a negative opinion of Brixit and panicking are two different things.

I'm personally not sure it was a wise move by the Brits,, but then again, I'm not up on all the details so it's unfair for me to judge.

But panic,, No, I don't see that at all.

Anytime an major world event takes place, be it an extreme terrorist attack or a countries economic downward momentum, you will see the Dow or NAS take a dip. Then it settles down and returns to normal....

Or at least what passes for normal. These days we're seeing numbers in the 17000+ range on the DOW when only 9 years ago, we thought 12000+ was normal. It's all relative I guess.

Anyway, I still don't see anyone here panicking...

I think the funny part about it is that every single generation seems to think that it's everyone else's fault. You do have to admit though, that the popular thing right now is to blame the millenials, right or wrong.

Of course it is. I was in that boat 25-30 years ago, my generation was in (or just out of) college and we were the young work force.... we were all irresponsible and going to ruin the world then too. We had no attention span, our work ethic was poor, our morality was lacking, and we weren't fit to carry our parents generations jock straps (or bras, whichever)...

And I'm sure we thought we were the most abused and misunderstood generation in history.. just like the millennials do now. Which is what makes it so funny.

That can not be accomplished within the two party system that has gotten us to this point. Both of the current parties have greatly contributed to where we are now.

The only way to really change anything or send the message you describe is through a third party. The status quo will get us nowhere no matter what's being said in stump speeches.

Horse Feathers!

Trump has won the Republican Primary in spite of the Party and its own wishes!

Trump is the Third Party! He crushed the Republicans and now will feast on the Democrats!

How is trump the third party when he's running under the republican banner?

Gary Johnson is a third party candidate. trump is not.

He's the GOP nominee just like many in the past. He's changed his mind on many things. He actually changed his mind on abortion three times in one day.

If you actually believe you'll get what he's saying when you vote for him, you're buying a wooden nickel. But hey, it's your vote.

It's really no different than the people who vote for Hillary.

This makes you lose credibility. I've never cried about it. Personally I could care less. Let's be honest here.

Not only do the Dems hate him, half of the GOP does too. So what are the odds any of his ideas pass the House or the Senate? Basically zero. He'll be a lame duck president for four years if he can even get elected.

You believe it will be some huge change. I say Washington will continue in dysfunction for another four years. The same thing will happen if Hillary gets elected. It's just more of the same.

You seem to be only one of a very few who are actually excited and worked up over Trump on this board. And hey, you have every right to if that's your choice. I'm actually doing the only thing I can do. Sitting back, taking notes and LMAO!

This is the most comical thing I've seen in any election in my lifetime. I might as well enjoy the freak show!

Are you really that naive?

Trump to Congress... I want this Bill passed!
Congress to Trump... No, we will stop you!
Trump to Congress... Ok, so you don't want to be involved with my Supreme Court pick?
Congress to Trump... Yes Mr. President, what can we do for you?

Come on Pitt!

You have not been paying attention to the phrase "Silent Majority" now have you.

People don't need the Libs slobbering all over them at the Bar, grocery story or online by stating they like Trump. They remain quiet and when the time comes they will make him President. Just like they made him the Republican Nominee.

Wake up!

There is nothing silent about it. And they aren't the majority.

Y'all are about as exhaustingly loud as the Bernie supporters.

Anyways,

Looks like Scotland is drumming up the vote of independence from the sarcastic sound United Kingdom.
