You have spent too many years with Obama the non-negotiator as President. Trump is a master negotiator and things will get done whether you believe it or not.

You should be more worried about your Think Check going down.

Interesting that you made an insect analogy.

I've been keeping distance from these threads lately, because they've been reminiscent of my visit to eastern Ohio 2 weeks ago...

I think ultimately the Brits will be just fine. They are made of much sterner stuff and their pride will help them keep that stiff upper lip. If they are the great financial center that they are supposed to be, they'll weather the storm just fine.

IIRC, there was significant opposition or at least trepidation when they were first considering joining so it's not like this is 400 years of British rule collapsing.

Swish,

several pages back you said that the EU was doing well as the trade organization that it was founded as, but they started making things worse when they started pushing the globalization stuff.

Isn't that really what Brexit is about? Getting out from under that globalization agenda? It doesn't appear that there was any movement or chance that the EU was going to move away from that. So if Brexit wasn't the answer, what was?

Of course people will tunnel, but a wall will restrict the flow of people flooding across the border by 99%!

While no wall has ever kept everyone out, historically speaking well constructed walls have a pretty good track record of keeping most people out. A few that come to mind: The Great Wall of China, Hadrian's Wall, Troy was known for pretty high walls, the Berlin Wall, the walls the Israeli's built have significantly reduced the number of attacks, maximum and medium security prisons, as well as many 6-10 ft privacy fences.

Some have claimed I have an impenetrable wall built around my heart <3 . The women in my life have thought it was to keep them out, to keep from being hurt... truth is, it was built to contain the terrible rage beast inside flamingmad

Yes, except instead of negotiating partial withdrawal standards and regulations, like a Norway or Switzerland deal, they decided to take their ball and go home.

Here's the hypocrisy of the situation, which as an American, I find absolutely hilarious.

One could make the argument that England literally wrote the book on modern globalization. How many countries currently celebrate their independence from the crown?

United States, India, China, and some others, right?

And now, they're fighting the EU over globalism. Ok, that's fine, you learn over time right?

Except they got what? THREE other countries still attached to them!!! 4 if you count the split between Ireland.

So their a globalist country complaining about globalism? That's how we roll now, huh? Straight thug life.

Think about man, you got two countries who absolutely depend on the EU to bring money into their economy (Scotland, Northern Ireland). So it's easy for England, who's always done ok for themselves, to give the EU the middle finger, but what about those 2? They didn't ask for that, just like they didn't ask to get conquered by England.

So that's all I'm saying bro. They wanted to bounce. And hey, I understand completely. But a full withdrawal? Didn't need to do all that. There's a long list of reasons for that, I'll go over that in a minute.

I guess that made it an unwise move for the Scots to have voted against independence last year then huh?

It was wise then because along with the EU, they depended on trade with England as their main trade partners. So while the vote was close, I see why the majority chose to stay. We're also talking travel regulations, everything on the line.

Nobody expected this to happen. Hindsight is always 20/20, I suppose.

But that's why they're talking about voting again.

And this is a prime example of the inherent danger of becoming too interdependent. If they are looking at voting again, I'm sure that means when looking at the concerns about breaking away they had last time, they might not look as important this time around.

If the Scottish people think it's that important, I absolutely think they should vote on it again. It's also why I'm a little confused at some of the assertions that a second referendum to renege on Brexit somehow undermines democracy? Of course I could be misinterpreting some of the posts wrong. But the purpose of democracy is to empower people to have a say. A legitimate democracy allows the People to go back to the polls and revise or repeal what's been previously done.

Now if my opinion counted for anything I wouldn't have a second vote next week. I'd let this play out a little bit to see how it's going to go first. As has been stated on all sides, there's a lot unknown still as to what is going to happen.

I agree, but there's a line.

Some countries just....well they just don't produce a lot for the global market.

I'm not gonna pretend to know a lot about what every country chief exports are, but speaking as an average consumer, I just don't have any knowledge on buying anything imported from Scotland.

I mean, the only thing I see on TV is that Scottish dude selling grass fertilizer or something.

So countries like that depend on foreign investors to keep their economy afloat. Greece is a perfect example. The only thing people know them from imports is olive oil and other produce.

Other than that, did you know that tourism is 25% of the GDP? They soles depend on foreigners coming into their country and making fun of the penis sizes on their statues.

I'm going to try to make the argument with England and immigration. So, British people pay for school, something like 6-9k pounds a year.

So, anybody who doesn't have an agenda knows their biggest minority group is who?? Polish people.

So when the EU happened, an influx on polish people have steadily been coming to England, right?

Off the top of your head, can you name any polish exports? I can't.

However, guess what? School is tuition free at state institution in Poland.

PDX had hit it earlier: you got homeys coming over to England HIGHLY educated, masters and all.

Also, British companies are demanding educated people, especially polish people, cause guess what? Non citizens aren't entitled to any benefits, just pay in England.

So you see the same issues here in the states. Somebody is giving those jobs to them, right?

Here's the main problem England has like the states:

Even if you cut out immigration.....you still need qualified people to fill those jobs. Obviously, there's a shortage of qualified people to fill those jobs.

Somebody said it on this board a few weeks ago: there's 8.5 million jobs right now in America available. But nobody can fill them!! We don't have qualified people in this country.

But guess who can fill them? Them Hindu boys with engineering degrees. Your doctor from Slovenia, who prior to that, you didn't even know was an actual country til you met him. That chemist from Romania that you swore up and down was a gypsie when you first saw her.

My point is sometimes we complain about situations in our country that's our fault in the first place. These countries in Europe. Some of them don't produce actual products, but on the flip side, provide highly educated people who are in demand around the world.

And then the countries that produce everything, somehow makes it harder for their own people to qualify for the jobs.

It's a viscous circle

Now, as far as your point about the vote. I agree, they should let it play out..I also don't understand how a do over vote would undermine democracy. It's the same people voting, who most probably asked for it anyway.. That's the textbook definition of democracy working for the people.

However, for Americans looking at it from a financial standpoint.....

I want them to crash and burn, I got my money stacked on the Etrade WAITING on that recession to happen, so I can buy everything up.. England will recover, the question is how much, and how long will it take?

From a social standpoint? I hope they re vote, because a lot of people's careers, lives, friendships, and businesses are on the line. I don't want to see people suffer.

Here's the post-brexit EU Parliament speech given by Nigel Farage. Needless to say, he's not very popular in the EU Parliament right now, but I like the man's style.

Haven't watched the video just yet, but Youtube Daniel Hannen... for being a Brit, he puts most Americans to shame with his knowledge about our founding principles and philosophies.

Most people can't name the VP, their Congressman and Senator, and we expect them to understand our founding principles? People think that Marxist statements are part of the Constitution, ("From each according to his ability.....") and we think that people will know what the founding fathers did, or the incredible personal risks the took in signing the Declaration of Independence, or the impossible odds the Patriots took in somehow winning the War for Independence? Not a chance. People don't know, because they don't care. It is simply not important to them. That is truly sad.

If you want to know why, one of my favorite quotes from a book I have read is:

Success breeds stagnation. Stagnation breeds failure.

We, as a people, have grown complacent, and therefore, stagnant.

I am watching with interest as the "Western Spring" expands in England and America. Today I was reading on how much resentment is building the world over against "Globalization" and "The New World Order".

This is gonna be a wild couple of years coming up!

Those I refer to as the Common Man and the Left, in typical elitist fashion, refers to as "the Less Educated", are rising up and rejecting this lousy meal served thru the backdoor on a cold plate.

They have found the people who claim to be open and loving are liars as they show their true colors by violently attacking free speech while claiming it is those they attack who are violent. They claim those they attack are full of hate while they themselves have shown true hate thru their actions. They claim the Right is Nazi like as they act like Nazi's themselves. The Left buses in their protesters as the press reports they are "Spontaneous Crowds".

The Common Man is now aware of the games of the Left and are rising up to resist it.

Our current Presidents reaction to the Brexit vote was not to accept the will of the people but he reacted with typical Progressive vindictiveness by saying the Brits will now have to move to the very bottom of the list as we negotiate trade deals. Certainly no way for an American so called leader to treat one of our greatest allies on the planet.

I have come to the conclusion if Trump does win the election, the reaction of the Left will be over the top as they show they care less about America and our Constitution than they care about their almighty agenda. I will not be surprised if they begin to lash out and destroy everything they can out of vindictiveness and hate. I almost expect they will be Running thru the street setting entire towns ablaze while screaming "Look! Trumps violence has lead to the burning of towns!"

Like I said, an interesting couple of years coming up.
