I don't care if there is 1 cop on the scene or 1000 cops on the scene, if the guy is acting like he's armed, he should be treated as if he's armed. If he's not armed, THEN PUT YOUR DAMN HANDS OUT WHERE THE COPS CAN SEE THEM!!!!! There is ZERO freaking reason to walk toward a cop who is trying to apprehend you with your hand behind your back near your belt. ZERO REASON.. well I guess there is one reason, if you want to get your arse shot.

Because the other thing that is getting old is that any time somebody gets shot and it is determined that he was unarmed, regardless of the circumstances, the "there should have been another way" crowd comes out to explain how cops should put themselves at risk because somebody else is acting irrationally and dangerously..

People today want to make their case with the arresting cop or fight him because you think he is wrong.

Your day comes in Court. That is where you have the full Rights of the Constitution working for you!

Fighting with the Police Officer can lead to your injury or death, you can only surrender and go peacefully. You can explain yourself if he will listen but you are dealing with perceptions and fears of the Officer during an arrest. The Court will listen to your case.

There are many cases where I believe that the police do make mistakes and do misuse their authority. As with any profession, you have good and bad.

In this case however, I think it's a reach to suggest that.

The court is rigged. If you don't have money, you're screwed.

I'll just ask a simple question here... how many headlines wouldn't have been headlines had the person listened to the orders of the law from the beginning of the confrontation/event? "put your hands up", "get down on the ground", "stop where you are" and etc. Think about it. We always wanna talk, and criticize with opinion, about the post events... well, let's talk about the pre-events. What led up to an unarmed person getting shot. What transpired beforehand. Today though, we only wanna talk about death and the opinionated racist driven actions behind it.

What do you do when you get pulled over for driving erratically? Or, even when you get pulled over for speeding?

Now you've laid out the main reason many have been shot by cops in the past few years. When someone is getting a simple traffic stop or a simple citation and they decide to be completely uncooperative, they tend to get hurt. The guy selling smokes in NY did that exact same thing. He had been written multiple citations for selling smokes, and then he resisted arrest. The result was his death. The guy in Ferguson charged the cop, this guy charged the cops.

As I've stated, I've had police guns pointed at me twice, and I did nothing. Once, I was looking for my wallet in my jacket, the second, I was mistaken for a cop killer. I walked away without injury or even being handcuffed, because I cooperated (within rights). They didn't ask to search my car, or try to search me. I answered their questions politely, kept my hands in view, and assured them I was not the person they were looking for (say that with an ObiWan voice if you like).

If it comes down to what? If a cop pulls me and wants to talk, I'll talk, I'm not going to charge the guy, even if he's a total arse. You can become a statistic for the cause if that's what you want to do. I'd much rather live to fight another day.


You are turning this into something it's not. This guy wasn't being assaulted, they just pulled him and wanted to question him.. that's it.

If you get pulled over by the cops or stopped by the cops and they order you to do something your response should be YES SIR 110 percent of the time. You do exactly what they tell you to do. Otherwise if you get shot it's YOUR OWN DAMN FAULT.

Amazingly, if people would follow this simple piece of advice, we'd all be better off.

This is one of the attitudes I don't understand. Clearly, you and I have had different experiences with the cops. I'm not saying that all encounters I've had with them have been rosy, I can assure you they haven't, but I don't carry with me any resent. Whether this difference is due to our color, where we live, our attitude, or dumb luck is up for debate (probably all of them, plus others) but I really hope this rhetoric about fighting a cop if it comes down to it is just that-- posturing on a message board and then if it actually comes down to it, you'll act like a responsible citizen. It's not just about you.. you have a family to look after. Remember that.

I think there might me some underlying issues that, yes, you've spoken of. Praying for you bud.

I try to avoid putting myself in situations where I would have to deal with cops in the first place. I don't regularly stay out into the morning like I used to, I drive safer and try to follow all traffic laws (well I would typically drive with the flow of traffic, but let's be real, neither of us are getting tickets for going 5-9 over).

Sometimes things happen, if you have to talk to a cop for a while then you know what to do. Say you get pulled over, pull over to a safe location, hands on the wheel, interior light on, talk respectfully, tell the officer where you're going to reach, etc. These are all things that I have always done and have never thought of it as being obedient or having a little choke collar around my neck. It's more just about being a polite person and good citizen and if that's not good enough for you, do it in the interest of self-preservation. I bet you would get better results doing that than you have gotten by sticking a phone in their face every time you get pulled over.

So no, I'm not willing to fight a cop to prove some silly point. You've posted many times on here how much money you have stacked, how much money your wife makes, and based on your posting history you obviously have plenty of time to get a job or start a side hustle on top of that. That is to say, hire a good lawyer, do exactly what he/she says, and win in court. Maybe look into the laws regarding whether and to what extent you can record audio/video in your home or vehicle if it really bothers you (but seriously, don't do this without doing your research first. It is illegal to record video and/or audio in public in some jurisdictions. Talk about it with a lawyer.)
