Browns defensive end Desmond Bryant is likely out for the season after sustaining a pectoral injury over the weekend multiple team sources tell 92.3 The Fan. Bryant, who led the Browns with 6.0 sacks last season, sustained the injury during a workout and underwent surgery on Tuesday. The estimated recovery time is 5-6 months. n 2012 former defensive lineman Phil Taylor sustained a similar injury during a May workout and was able to return in early November. http://cleveland.cbslocal.com/2016/07/12...reRZsPs.twitter

Oddly, this doesn't bother me at all. To me, this is a year to see what the young talent on the team has moving forward. Bryant was likely never in the long terms plans.
The silver lining is this creates an opportunity for young guys to get valuable game experience.
It's likely the Browns were/are a 4-6 team w/ or w/o Bryant.

I just don't understand how people do not get that when the team loses a ton of games that the coaching staff receives the blame, and that the more times we blow up the coaching staff, the further we set ourselves behind.

Probably the end of Bryant's career as a Brown. I don't see us keeping a 31 year old coming off an upper body injury next year. If we're being frank.
That said, I've always been a fan of baptism by fire. No greater teacher than experience. Let's see what Nassib and Meder can do.

...well that didn't take long. Has the curse re-asserted itself already?
Sub packages are probably gonna look interesting now. Think Kruger will kick inside with Cooper on passing downs? I hope Nassib came ready to play.
I guess IR is one way to clear roster spots for the young guys. Hopefully, getting the rookies more PT pays off next season because this one could be rough.

one player who I thought we could pencil in and not worry about

That sucks...one of our best DL and a veteran leader.
We do have depth all be it mostly young.
Cooper might take that spot he Hughes, Meder and Nassib will have to pick up the slack.
Hey football is about making lemonade. If one guy falls and its not the QB but devastates your season then you did not have a team anyways.
jmho - Des Bryant...heal fast big guy...maybe back for December and hopefully meaningful games.

NEXT MAN UP!
Injuries are going to happen but when they happen in training and not on the field, in a game...you have to ask if the training is a problem.
All I know is the injury was said to be due to "weight training". Those in charge may need to look at what they are doing in training.

It's likely the Browns were/are a 4-6 team w/ or w/o Bryant. Yeah, this is how I kinda feel as well. I guess I figured this was his last year in Cleveland anyways and this team wasn't going anywhere. Now, we get to play more youth. He was our best defensive lineman but I think he was still overrated a bit. Calling him the best defensive lineman on the team is like having 'shiniest turd syndrome'. Always injured, disappeared for games on end, only to have back-to-back sensational games, then disappear again. What I did like about Bryant is he didn't make any glaring mistakes. He was consistent, I guess, but not overly great at anything. I would have loved to see more of him as a DT in the 43. Anyways, Cooper and Nassib are the beneficiaries of this injury, IMO, with my guess that Cooper starts at DE at this stage in the game.
At DT, context and meaning are a scarecrow kicking at moving goalposts.

Even more so than before, if that was even possible, do we need young men to step up.
Can we get some sorta positive story or positive headline regarding our bloody team? Just one, a single one...

That's the first thing that came to mind when I read about the injury. A young team just got younger. I hate it for Bryant. I hate it for the team. Hopefully he'll get a shot at returning but I won't hold my breath.

Next man up. Dial up the rooks. Might as well season them up.
Why do our injuries seem to be so huge, so serious, so season-ending so often? Hope the injury bug stays away.

Losing Bryant is a huge blow cause no body else on the front 7 Can bring the pressure on the QB like he could . He is basically the Browns version of JJ Watt or Geno Atkins Not saying talent wise but what he brings on passing downs Against the run he was garbage This defense was already short of proven talent

All over the place. Bryant was responsible for that lack of pass rush just as much as anyone else. I'll also put the blame on the DC, but Bryant was no pass rushing world beater as far as I remember. What would have been nice was to see him play under Ray, as 2013 was his best year as a Cleveland Brown, IMO.

Found this on Daily Norseman which looks like the equivalent of Dawgs by Nature. Excepet for the Vikings instead of the Browns. Browns Pass Rusher Done For Season With Torn Pectoral By Gone Fishin'  @brad_henke on Jul 13, 2016, 9:20a 21 Bruce Kluckhohn-USA TODAY Sports You'll never guess who one of their strength and conditioning coordinators is.......  TWEET SHARE (20) PIN Cleveland Browns defensive end, Desmond Bryant, will likely miss the season with a torn pectoral muscle that he injured while lifting weights. He underwent surgery on Tuesday, per si.com. Okay, you may ask, why is this story about the Browns on the DN? Well, you may recall the last couple years that our Vikings have also had players suffer pec injuries at an alarming rate. In the 2014 and 2015 seasons, the following players suffered pectoral injuries: Phil Loadholt, Brandon Fusco, Brian Robison, Carter Bykowski, and Josh Robinson. Who was our strength and conditioning coach for those years? Evan Marcus. The Vikings brought him on board in 2014 as our strength and conditioning coach, and he remained until he was fired in January of this year. After leaving here, Mr. Marcus went to...........Cleveland! Cleveland hired Evan Marcus as their strength and conditioning coordinator earlier this year, per dawgsbynature.com. The following graph was created by the folks at SimpleTherapy: Provided by SimpleTherapy Let's look and see how often a team should expect to see a player go down with a pec injury. I couldn't find 2015 data (or even 2014, for that matter), but according to a story on mashable.com, there were over 1,300 injuries in the 2013-2014 regular season. Of those 1,300+, only 11 were pectoral injuries (probability of .008391), so the odds of a team having five of those injuries in 2 years are quite low. If there are 1,300 injuries for 32 teams, each team should, on average, suffer 40.625 injuries per year. The probability of a pec injury being one of those injuries is .340884375 (40.625 x .008391). So basically, one out of every three teams should suffer a pec injury in a given season. We suffered 2.5 per year while Evan Marcus was our S&T coach, which is about 7x higher than the average). Now, I'm not saying that he had anything to do with Bryan'ts injury, as I couldn't find any evidence that he worked directly with Bryant. I'm just thinking that it's a hefty coincidence that he's here when we suffered 5 pec injuries in 2 years, and he's now in Cleveland in his first off-season there, and they've suffered a torn pec already. It'll be interesting to keep our eye on the situation over there. http://www.dailynorseman.com/2016/7/13/1...h-torn-pectoral

That's a little worrisome. I don't really know the first thing about being an S&C guy in the pros, but I wouldn't be surprised if these guys are on the bleeding edge of sports and fitness science, and pushing the envelope. They may be trying to differentiate and having players do weird stuff.

I would hope they do.
In response to peen, I'm sure NFL franchises hire people who know the human body and what it can do, how it needs to be built, and when too much is too much.

Why do our injuries seem to be so huge, so serious, so season-ending so often? Because established teams can absorb a loss like this, and still have a chance. We never have an established team.
