The Cleveland Browns have signed DL Nick Hayden. Hayden is 6 foot 3, 295 pounds and entering his seventh NFL season out of Wisconsin. Originally selected by Carolina in the sixth round of the 2008 draft, Hayden has appeared in 76 games with Carolina (2008-10), Cincinnati (2011) and Dallas (2013-15). He has logged 183 career tackles, two sacks, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble. Last year, he started 15 of his 16 games with the Cowboys and totaled 48 tackles and a fumble recovery. A native of Hartland, Wis., he graduated from Arrowhead High School. The Browns roster is currently at the maximum of 90 players. http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/news/arti...52-7d3c289c104bVet/Depth signing. I only vaguely remember him

Nah, we were down one DL, and we signed one DL. At least I hope it's that simple.

Wouldn't this signing have more to do w/Bryant's injury than Nassib's?

We're saved! 16-0 baby! As others have said, he is depth because of Bryant's injury.

Yawn. Their was better lineman available in the 1st rd of free agency And this tight wad front office gets a Kmart blue light special.

So we signed a run stuffer for the D=line. What's wrong with that?

jc..
I believe Hayden was one year behind Joe Thomas at Wisconsin. They probably went against each other in practice a few times and maybe Joe T. put in a good word for his former teammate.

It was addressed in the draft which mitigated the need to buy a player Now there is a void to fill and addressed it

and it was addressed with a run stuffer who didn't break the bank. That is the M.O. our front office is going to be following.

Hayden should fit right in with the Browns. He's coming In to a porous run defense from a team that couldnt stop The run. He's played in 4-3 most of his career He can't eat up blocks. If I'm gonna sign a d lineman l I'm gonna make sure He's actually has been productive and not a doormat. Dominique Easley was out there available at one time And would have cost the same as Hayden and you get a better player. This team would have been better off signing a Anquan Bolden with a open roster spot

If what you say is true, then he doesn't even make the Team. The point is moot.

Hayden should fit right in with the Browns. He's coming In to a porous run defense from a team that couldnt stop The run. Because his TEAM could not stop the run does not mean he sucks at it. We also didn't sign the guy to step in and dominate. He was signed as depth and as a rotational guy to maybe help out in the run game. and you know this how? Dominique Easley was out there available at one time Desmond Bryant didn't have a torn Pec muscle at one time either. We are on a roll today bro LOL I have to disagree with Bolden as well as I don't think we need an over the hill vet stealing time away from all the young WR's we have drafted.

So this is a camp signing? I just do not remember seeing him play for any of these guys. Is this an upgrade? Replacement? Starter? Or just a vet place filler?

Makes me wonder about Nassib's status. Nothing to do about Nassib...all to do with losing Desmond Bryant.
Nassib...we will see if he can develop fast in Training camp. Its a rotational position. I'm sure he will get his reps unless there is injury involved.
jmho - Hayden is Good, not great - not bad. Saw him play for the Cowboys...he did make some big plays.

“He’s a very smart guy,” coach Jason Garrett said. “He’s tough. He runs to the ball. He’s more productive than you think he is. He makes a lot of little plays. He’s very good with his gap discipline. He’s very good knowing his job and doing his job, and sometimes it’s a little bit unheralded, but it’s important to being a good defensive team. He’s a sneaky guy because he’s around the ball a lot. He chases the ball a lot and really impacts the game in a quiet way.” Link The article also talks about PFF not liking him, so I'm somewhat curious who within the braintrust actually pushed for him. Maybe we're just trying to get a feel on Greg Hardy (not that I'm for or against such a move.) Have we seen details on the contract yet? Here's another article on Hayden with pictures. Seems to be good at occupying multiple blockers. Link2

Gap discipline is a phrase that stands out to me. Looks to be a depth/short yardage guy

It's probably just that he was the best vet available at this point. He'll be competing for a roster spot due to Bryant's injury. There's no deeper meaning behind this signing.

I agree. There is no hidden or deep meaning. We lost a vet DT and signed a vet DT...pretty simple.

Not at all sure what that's supposed to mean but I assume that coming from you, it's some kind of insult that you are to afraid to actually write out? I assume that's also what the other pic is. The act of someone without courage to say what's on their mind so they resort to mindless pictures

(Didn't want to start a new thread for this, so I found one that was related) The Browns picked up DL Chihbo Anunoby (6'3", 316), waived DL Kyle Rose to make room. http://www.clevelandbrowns.com/news/arti...c8-208e2000bf1e

We've been really looking for some DL prospects thus far. Seems to be the one area with the most influx.

I could be wrong (often am), but I suspect they are concerned about depth more than anything else. The loss of Bryant further thinned an already thin area.

Shame to see Kyle go Known him since we were tykes. Was hoping to be able to root for him as a Brown this year. But it looks like we got another space eater on the line and we desperately need that since losing Des.

We have a bunch of 4-3 ends in the 260-280 range. Not many in the 310 range to play end in a 3-4. This guy fits the bill. He has played NT. Maybe we see Danny flip to the edge from time to time??
