In a letter to Josh Gordon today, Roger Goodell wrote: “As we discussed at our [July 19] meeting, as... http://fb.me/7cf3Bsw1Q

Suspended first 4 games

Yup!

NFL.com

Josh Gordon is getting another chance.

The wide receiver will be conditionally reinstated and face a four-game suspension, the NFL announced in a release Monday. NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport first reported the news.

"As we discussed at our [July 19] meeting, as Commissioner, I want nothing more than to see you turn your circumstances around and succeed," Goodell wrote in a letter to Gordon. "Countless others including your agent, teammates and coaches, Mr. Haslam and the leadership of the organization, the Program professionals and Jim Brown also have pledged to provide you with every resource at their disposal. But as you acknowledged, ultimately, your future is your responsibility. I have every belief that you can make the right choices, but it will be up to you to do so."

As part of his reinstatement, Gordon will be able to take part in training camp and play in preseason games, though he'll still have to participate in treatment. During his suspension, Gordon will be allowed to be in team meetings.

Around The NFL will have more on this story.

I'm still betting the Under on him getting popped again, though.

As has been my opinion from the start, if he's reinstated, stays clean and produces... WONDERFUL.. If not, see ya later.

I'm interested to see what the Browns do here. They drafted 4 WRs and clearly looked as though the team was moving on from Gordon. However, Goodell referenced Haslem and Brown devoting resources to help him succeed, which means The Commish talked directly to both men prior to making this decision??

Also, the decision in itself is so odd. How many times (times is a concern here of course) did the league drag their feet to make a decision, yet this time around the meeting and reinstatement happen in a blink of an eye.

Weird.

weird that they would reinstate him with an additional 4 game suspension.

Gordon: "Great, thanks! So... why am I suspended the first four games again?"

Goodell: "Well it wouldn't be fair if we suspended Le'Veon Bell and didn't suspend a Browns player, so..."

I agree. It's all gravy with Gordon

I think the additional 4 games is just the NFL adding one final rap across the knuckles.

Man, I am not expecting it at all, but I REALLY hope he's gotten his act together this time. He has ridiculous potential if he can just keep himself together.

Four games for the diluted sample??

The 4 game suspension is from a Dui Gordon received in North Carolina awhile back.

So, who gets cut to make room for him on the 90-man roster?

Josh Gordon...

So, how about that heat? Lol. That loser is hardly worth the .00000001mb in space that this thread is consuming on Purple's server. People are blind to the facts. It wasn't just a diluted sample. It was a diluted sample with traces of thc. He was trying to mask it.

It's what losers do when they pick drugs over millions of dollars and a chance to play a kid's sport at the highest level. It's what losers do when they feel like letting everyone down.

If you guys want to get your hopes up, get excited and etc - good luck with that. We'll see how you feel after his next pending suspensions, and yes, it's pluarized on purpose. He's a moron of endless opportunities given to him.

While all of that may be true, and while I'm still betting that you're right and he will get popped yet again.... it no longer matters at all what that sample was - he's reinstated. That case is now closed.

I'm fairly certain that Haslam has probably stuck his neck out a little with the Commish to get this done, and I'd bet a half dozen paychecks that is has been made absolutely crystal clear to Gordon that this is his last and ONLY shot at an NFL career.

He just witnessed the burning at the stake of his buddy Manziel - he knows it is real and he's next if he doesn't change his ways.

Still.... I'm betting he screws it up. If he doesn't, however, this is a game-changer for this offense.

I'd be making calls to see if we can get a second or third rounder for him... I'd be shocked if he doesn't get suspended again sometime in the next two seasons...

I really like it - I personally think anyone suspended for non performance enhancing drugs should be allowed to be with the team during their suspension - they need the positive support system

I like it because he won't be thrown into practice knowing nothing week 5.

I agree jay, and iirc Botch once lobbied for that - I think it was when William Green was suspended.

It is hard to not be excited by Gordon's physical abilities and talent ...... but it's also impossible to not be concerned by his consistent lack of self control. He has received numerous "2nd chances" ...... and has blown every one thus far.

He gets the preseason and the 1st 4 games to show that he can stay clean and be a good teammate, so we'll see what he does with this 6th or 7th "2nd chance".

I absolutely agree. Get something, anything... while you can. Shift all that high-risk onto someone else's plate. You could easily wake up to a headline of him failing another test the next morning. By end week. Heck, by end day.

But how high-risk is it really? He's being paid peanuts and wont' even be paid until WK 5. I guess the 'highest' risk is a roster spot or being a poor influence in the locker room, but I've never heard JG as a concern in the locker room. In fact, the exact opposite.

Anyways, if the Browns cut ties with Gordon...I definitely get why they would do that. But if they keep him, I get that too.

And that's why it's extremely unlikely that we'd get a 2nd or 3rd round pick for him.

Rule #1 ; NO rookie is allowed to spend any time with Gordon off the field.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

He's a high risk of just having him on the team. He's at risk for crap effort. He's at risk for drinking. He's at risk for smoking. He's at risk of just being a moron incapable of learning from his experiences.

I could care less what we're paying him. Keeping a roster spot on the final 53 for someone who messes up so much is silly imo. Shop him, a 5th rounder is better than him having a few killer games, getting everyone excited, and then letting everyone down while not getting anything outta it but yet another kick in the nuts.

Surely we can get SOMETHING there, don't Dallas like his type?

IMO the reward greatly outweighs the risk. If he straightens out for good we got a stud WR. If he screws up again it costs us almost nothing.

Him taking reps away from some of the kids in camp is not a big deal and since RG3 throws a nice deep ball, opposing Ds would have a problem on their hands. Let him create space for Corey underneath. Might be something to see.

The Browns should have learned by now that Josh would certainly fail another p test. It's time to cut the ties.

worst case scenario? he screws up again and we don't have him again

best case scenario? he stays clean and returns to his dominant self

Welcome back Josh .... I wish you every success in turning your life around. Sincerely hope it for yourself first and foremost - and I hope it for the Browns too. We're a way better team with you lining up at wide out, healthy in mind and body.

Oh yeah man, he's headed to the HOF. He's had ONE great season. Lets erect a statue right next to Jim Browns.... LMAO

The guy hasn't played in YEARS so let's cut one of the rookies we just drafted so meathead has a roster spot. Works for me. If having the DUMBEST player to EVER take the field is so damned important, by all means, lets sign him to a LONG term deal so you guys can fawn over him for years to come.....

Personally, I hope they cut him the second they are allowed to do so. I don't like stupid. Stupid never wins. Stupid ALWAYS makes a mistake at the worst possible time. Meathead is the epitome of stupid.... He's a lousy route runner. He half asses it and he can't stop getting suspended. But hey, he's the greatest WR NOT to play the last couple years. LMMFAO

Meathead is BACK! We're saved lol

So you believe a guy who hasn't played any significant time in YEARS can step right back in and dominate? You don't lose a thing not playing for years.....
