I personally have been down this road. Sure Gordon has failed a few times, but that does not mean he will this time. It took me three tries, and I have made my life a lot better since. Assuming that he can't change is just that assuming. Ricky Williams is a guy to look at. He gave up football for weed. it cost him a couple years, but he came back and played well. I think Gordon can do it too. Will he? That's up to him.
I hope he proves everybody wrong who hates him. The players who know him love him, and even the coaches seem to really like the kid personally. I wish him luck.

Addiction can not be beat until the addict hits that point in their lives when "want to" becomes the driving force.
Is it a guarantee you will kick the habit because you have the want to? No. But it is guarantee you won't kick it without it

He was suspended indefinitely and got reinstated for 4 games...maybe he just doesn't care as long as he is back to playing football. What is he going to do - fight it?
I wonder his failed test before being reinstated the first time...for some reason I think he just missed the test that is considered a failed test.

And then when Gordon returns we either: 1. put Payton on the PS 2. cut Moore if another WR shows special teams prowess You can't just put a player on the practice squad. You have to cut him, he has to clear waivers, and then he has to want to re-sign with you. Then he can go on the practice squad. Also, my bet is that Payton is the guy that shows up on special teams.

I know about the PS. It was an insinuation that Payton would have a better chance to clear waivers ... along with Louis (which I mentioned in an aforementioned response)

Josh was asked the same question and he said...I don't know as well. Said got to ask the NFL for the answer. Is this odd that he doesn't know? I mean, is that normal that a player gets suspended for 4 games but hasn't had it explained to him? Maybe they said, "you are being suspended for 4 games, don't ask any questions and don't make any waves" Why would you believe Gordon's version of this? The guy is a known liar. And YOU tell me I have a comprehension problem Where did you see me say or even indicate that I believed him? I asked if this was ODD or NORMAL that a guy doesn't know why he's suspended..

My daughter used to chew 10 Vicodin. An hour later take 10 Perocet. A couple hours later put on a Morphine patch.
Addiction to prescription meds can get pretty serious. This was very sad to read. It's a real issue. It's far more devastating than pot, yet pot seems to be what law enforcement and etc focus on. Also, factoring how easy it is to go into a dr. and come out with a prescription, it definitely is an issue. The best thing about what you said ddubia, is when you said "used to". I hope your daughter has put that completely behind her. I couldn't imagine witnessing someone live like that. Very, very sad it is to me to even put myself in your shoes during that time.

I drool when I think of gordon, corey, pryor, hawkins, and barnidge spreading out a defense. I mean that could be something especially awesome and is worth the risk gordon presents to put that on the field. they trying to cover that like crazy and there goes RG3 like a bat out of hell. This could end up being one sick offense =)

Coleman proves to be a viable NFL route runner and catcher 4. Pryor proves to be an improved, viable NFL receiver 5. Barnidge proves last year wasn't a fluke

Oddly? You said this: I asked if this was ODD or NORMAL that a guy doesn't know why he's suspended.. Do you believe that he doesn't know why or do you think he telling yet another lie? Kinda eliminates the ODD part.

But again, you aren't quoting the original statement I made, just my follow up to you. And that makes it out of context. Learn to read already will ya.

Couldn't cannabis oil give the same treatment that people are looking for from smoking cannabis? Would that then be considered legal by the leagues standards?

I see, but isn't it fair to assume that the ban on marijuanna is more due to the stigma than it's 'adverse' effects? So wouldn't it be fair to allow a player to receive the benefits that cannabis provides for their brains then?

People can whine and cry all day about how unfair the rules are, but if it was me and I'm making huge money for playing a game and they tell me not to take something..........I don't take it. Pretty freaking simple.
And if you can't stop yourself from taking something that your body doesn't actually need, it tells me that you might have a problem. They aren't asking you to stop drinking water or eating fruit and veggies.

I think MrTed is suggesting that the marijuana could have a healing effect and the league doesn't like it because of the stigma attached to the smoking.

I think MrTed is suggesting that the marijuana could have a healing effect and the league doesn't like it because of the stigma attached to the smoking. It absolutely can have a healing effect and is a hell of a lot better for you than taking opioids. However, Verse is correct, it is at the present time against the rules so you either obey the rules or you do what meathead has done many many times in the past.... give up a job that pays millions so you can toke up. I absolutely think the PA was stupid as HELL not doing a bargain with the league where they allowed HGH testing in exchange for eliminating testing for grass. Unfortunately, they didn't make that deal and allowed the league to keep testing for weed, so it is what it is. Either continue to be the dumbest man in the league and continue toking, or stop and earn millions and once you're retired toke up all you want.... So far meathead has decided he wants to party now and to hell with playing football, to hell with his teammates, and to hell with the Cleveland Browns. So far the Browns have shown he can get suspended over and over and over and over again and they won't EVER call him on it and cut him. Not hard to see where this is likely headed. Another suspension and another year gone, with the fans hoping NEXT time he will be this Stud WR they believe him to be and the Browns waiting around on this idiot. Lets say he does keep his nose clean and for the next two season has really good productive years..... how many of you would then give him a huge contract, say top ten WR deal with a bunch of guaranteed cash? How many of you would franchise him for whatever outrageous sum the top WR's are getting now? Throwing money at meathead is like throwing gasoline on a fire..... But if you don't, he walks in FA..... Meathead is a trainwreck waiting to happen. You watch, the Browns will give him a big contract and to celebrate all that guaranteed cash meathead will do what comes natural..... screw up.

It's against the rules, but some people get tested many times a year and others just twice. If they enforced the rules across the board instead of treating certain individuals differently, it wouldn't seem quite so hypocritical. The league knows that players are smoking pot, but for the most part is fine looking the other way. However, they also want to look good in the media on "moral"/societal issues. It's like politics, the league wanted a big story to distract from other issues and Gordon was the sacrificial lamb. I'd be willing to bet that Gordon has smoked with other NFL players, like he was on a plane to Vegas with a coach and other players when he got busted for drinking. His one suspension wasn't even for pot. Goodell probably had some scotch on his desk as he passed down the punishment. It's not like the rest of the league is a bunch of choir boys, but Gordon was held to a higher standard since he entered the league. It frustrates me.

How do you know that Gordon was held to a higher standard. And if you don't smoke, you don't have to worry.

Because he was put in the substance abuse program before he'd had any issues at the NFL level. In the program you are tested more often than the average player; thus, he was held to a higher standard.
I'm just saying if they are going to test for pot with certain players all the time, why not do it for all players all the time? Oh, it's probably because they really don't care because it has no effect on games and also no effect off the field on anyone other than the player involved.
The public flagellation, holier than thou garbage is lame.

He was kicked out of two colleges for drugs. He lied about the second one. Other players who were busted for drugs in college faced the same situation as Gordon did when they entered the NFL.
Besides, it's fairly well known that you have to be a complete moron to get caught in the NFL. The NFL is not out to get the players. LOL

LOL But Gordon wasn't in the NFL's standard, easy to avoid program. I'm sure a lot of other players would fail if they were in Gordon's program. For the most part, brain surgeons NFL players are not. If the goal of the program for the most part isn't to catch players smoking pot, why test for it at all?

The fact (which I disagree with BTW) is that the THC is a schedule 1 drug on the federal level. The NFL covers many states and locations. If the NFL allowed the use of weed, THC or cannabis oils, it would be promoting that their players break federal law in many of the states that teams reside in. I don't see that as an option for the league.
Josh had multiple infractions at more than one college before entering the NFL. He earned his status in the substance abuse program entering the league. He was not treated unfairly or held to any higher standard than any other player in that same position.
Now you may disagree and believe weed should be legal. I do and I don't even smoke it anymore. You may believe that the NFL shouldn't test for it. Some people may believe the NFL should allow cannabis oils to be used rather than prescription drugs, which makes perfect sense to me as well.
But as long as the federal government has weed listed as a schedule one drug, this won't happen. It's not the fault of the NFL. Claiming Josh was held to some higher standard is silly at best. According the NFL rules, he earned that status. So have others. You reap what you sow and that's nobodies fault but Josh Gordon's.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

+1, seems Gordon has owned up finally. Is this based on him "saying the right things?" Cause we been down that road before. He is good at saying the right things, or repeating the right things others tell him to say. All we get from him so far is words. If he ever feels that a multi-million dollar career is more important than puffy-puffy, *then* we might see him own up.

I'll give him credit on one thing for sure.... he's walked the walk enough to get Goodell to announce early that he's reinstated - without even waiting for the Aug 1 date when he told Gordon he could re-apply. Granted, that probably speaks more to skids being greased behind the scenes than anything, but it still says something that Goodell was comfortable going on that limb and not even waiting the 2 weeks or whatever to give the appearance of waiting for Gordon to re-apply. So - I think we all have to think that there is at least a little something different this time.

Grimm I believe you have to fail TWO TESTS before you receive a suspension. Nobody is privy of that info accept the NFL and the player. Not sure if that is with the new CBA or existed when Gordon arrived here.
But somewhere he had to fail a test after he became a player and if I recollect his first failure was in his tests from the draft - he wasn't prepared to be drafted in the compensation draft to get it all out of his system.
I think he has tried to do a good job unlike his days in college but his total disregard of the rules as he thought as long as he didn't smoke he was good. Cough medicine, at a Weed party enough where there was a considerable contact high to a big degree. DUI, adding alcohol in the mix. Not knowing when the ban on alcohol took effect and got caught drinking with tweet selfies on the plane.
These are all actions that he didn't take it all serious enough. Hopefully he has finally learned his lesson and matured enough.
