Indians version of JR Smith, and not useless in the field like Beltran. Plus, we can't have Napoli, Santana, and Beltran all in the lineup at the same time.

Puig's still batting .260, decent in the field, and we'll need someone to replace Almonte come the playoffs. We can then move JRam back to 3B, and not worry about Uribe or Davis sucking up too much playing time.

Puig is too much of a loose cannon, I can see him running through a stop sign or a wild throw in a big spot costing us a series, too risky

The team likes Almonte, and he has started hitting, after a bit of a slump starting his time back up, following his return from his suspension.

I am worried about 3B. It does seem like Uribe has worn down. We could more Ramirez there, or bring up Urshella, though he would be more of a superior defender than extremely productive hitter. I tend to believe that Ramirez will see more and more time at 3B as the year goes on, until he is the starter, with Uribe the backup.

I am not sure what you have against Rajai Davis. He has found the fountain of youth. He is hitting for average, has more HR this year than he did all of last year, and has found speed he didn't have last year. He is one of the league leaders in stolen bases. He has been a really nice addition to the team.

The best possible outcome for the Tribe is if we could get Brantley back to full strength. I still hope that will be the case. Evidently he is feeling much better after having scar tissue cleaned up in his shoulder. I also wish that the trade for the catcher whose name will not be mentioned had not been blocked by him.

Overall, with the pitching staff we have, starters and bullpen, I think that we have enough right now to win the World Series. It would be nice to add one more impact bat though.

Evidently the Tribe is still discussing Beltran with the Yankees.

How weird is it that the Yankees are a seller, and the Indians are a buyer? tongue

We've acquired OF Brandon Guyer from the Rays for prospects.

Brandon's slash line vs. LHP in '16: .344/.488/.594.

Looks like Guyer is just a guy. crazy

Indians send prospects OF Nathan Lukes and RHP Jhonleider Salinas to the Rays for Guyer.

Lukes is a lower Class A OF. Salinas is a low level Class A pitcher.

Edit: Guyer has been hit by pitch a league leading 23 times? Is that right? Wow.

JR just gets down when his team is losing. We also don't have a guy like Lebron on the Indians to keep Puig engaged. JR worked because he came to a team that was an instant contender, had a good teammate in Lebron, and was put in a role where he could contribute and succeed.

Puig is already on a team that "should" be contenders, has been somewhat of a lockerrom cancer, and would be doing much the same thing here as he is in Dodgerville. I'm not sure how much a change of scenery will help him like it did JR.

Juan Uribe DFA with the trade for Guyer. Probably makes Ramirez the starter at 3B, and moves Gonzoles into the primary backup role 2B-SS-3B.

I suspect that the Indians will use Guyer as a pseudo platoon with Maquin ..... with a lineup including Naquin against RHP, and Guyer against LHP.

Guyer is a good bat against lefties, but is that it? With the package we were willing to give up for an everyday catcher, this is all we could find after that fell through?

Indians are the favorite in the AL
Cubs are the favorite in the NL

Anything less than those two teams in the WS would be an upset

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

Beltran has been one of the best hitters in the American League this year.

as olney just said, some of these teams (mets, rangers) are resigned to the fact that they just have to out-hit teams now. Not the best equation for success, but maybe their only chance.

Run prevention is still a thing. Their defense may suffer to the point where the runs aren't that big of an advantage (or an advantage at all).

They would have been better off keeping the prospects and just running out Cespedes/Conforto/Granderson.

His production at the plate drops during extended times while playing the OF. Not sure how we could've juggled putting Santana, Napoli, and Beltran all in the lineup at the same time.

Nothing againt Davis, YTown. Just he's older, and not a long term fix. The guy we got from Tampa should do alright when Davis leaves next year.
-----------------------------------

Texas snags Beltran AND Lucroy. Sounds like they're going with the Indians of the 90s strategy, and we're trying to match how the Braves won it in 95.

These playoffs will get fierce. Can't wait to play the Rangers in a few weeks.

That's what the Indians tweeted out. (It cannot count extra innings, though, because we have lost in extras)

Guyer vs. LHP this year: .338/.482/.585, 196 wRC+

An OF capable of mashing lefties was a necessary addition to roster.

Indians have been using Abraham Almonte vs. LHP since his return. Not only is he ineligible for postseason roster, vs. LHP isn't strength.

I thought it was the Indians, but evidently not.

Twitter was going nuts with all of the action at the deadline, and I just cannot find the Tweet now.

Now that you mention it, though, I know that Allen has losses on his record. This cannot be right. I have to retract it, because it is wrong. crazy Shows what I get for trusting Twitter.

I also forgot that Almonte will be ineligible for the post-season ..... so that's why we added the OF we did.

I said earlier in the year, Salazar always comes back down to earth and will struggle for stretches. He's one of those guys that you can hit hard when he's missing.

Miller comes in and in his debut promptly gives up a home run. Waste of 3 hours

Because of his PED suspension. (changed in 2014)

Suspended M.L.B. Players Now Ineligible for Playoffs - The New York Times
http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/29/sports/baseball/suspended-players-now-ineligible-for-playoffs.html

Baseball players suspended during the season for a performance-enhancing drug violation will not be eligible for that year’s postseason under changes to the sport’s drug agreement announced Friday.

In the most significant toughening of the drug rules in eight years, Major League Baseball and the players association said the penalty would increase to 80 games from 50 for a first testing violation and to a season-long 162 from 100 for a second. A third violation remains a lifetime ban.

Hopefully they bring up Clevinger again. He took a bit of a beating the 1st time up, but he has settled back down again at AAA, and I am curious to see how he does knowing what to expect this time around. He was also used as a reliever 1st time around, and he has been a starter in the Minors, so it would be good to see him in a familiar role.
