Never said I didn't want him.

Point is, its a long year from now til next draft. A lot can happen. I remember Tahj Boyd was heavily rooted to be a beast going into his last year, and come draft, he got picked up in the 6th round, and was out the NFL in a year.

Pretty sure that Hue is not focused on anyone at the collegiate level right now.

I don't know if thats a fact or speculation but unless RGIII lights it up, I REALLY want Deshaun Watson from Clemson...

If RG3 really lights it up why would that make u shy away from Watson? .. Would 1 even great year from RG3 be enough proof for u to pass on Watson?

I think RG3 lighting it is ideal to Watson's development ...

Man .. Wish I was moving to Clemson instead of Columbia .. Oh well .. I LOVE college sports way more than pro sports and I live in upstate NY .. I have the Syracuse orange who I HATE and nothing else at all ...

So moving to SEC and ACC and great sports all around is going to be AWESOME ... Even for an ND fan ...

Can't wait til thing spring and the SC games .. The SEC has 7 or 8 Friday night pitchers (there #1's) that will be going in the 1st round next year .... 1st thing I do is go get season tix and can't wait for Friday nights next spring ...

Mr. Peen - Florida's #3 last year was as good a pitcher as there was in the country ... He was only a freshman .. U guys were LOADED last year and will be once again this year ...

Anyhow .. Way off track ... Sorry ...

If Watson is your man then I think u go after hi no matter what RG3 does .. And I think it's CLEAR AS DAY that's who Hue wants ...

WERE LOADED WITH PICKS and depending on how the ball bounces we may end up with the #1 pick all on our own ...

I love talking baseball. It's the sport I played and coached.

The Gators are loaded. The beauty of baseball is that even the worst team stands a 49-45% chance of beating you.

The saying is that every team( in MLB) is going to win 60 games and lose 60 games. What is done with the other 42 tells the tale.......and folks, this holds up almost EVERY year

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

The head coach is not worrying about a junior quarterback that he may or may not be able to draft.

The fact that RGIII and Kessler are on the team makes it look more likely that Watson will be a target. I'm not sold on the Watson, but the Brown's QB situation is not looking very good. There is a reason why RGIII is ranked 32nd no the qb list. And no, it's not because his two former head coaches picked on him. [sniffles]

I find it interesting that Kessler was demoted to 4th string yesterday at practice. He didn't have a good practice on Tuesday, and came out with the last team on Wednesday.

Even with that being the case, I'd be surprised if the depth chart is anything but:

Griffin
McCown
Kessler

My guess is the coaching staff wanted to see how Kessler responds to a demotion.

I agree. It's just the simple fact that he was demoted.

They are probably trying to give Davis a shot before they cut him.

Or some pub / credit to get a 7th or something from Dallas for Davis.

Ideally, McCown plays lights out and in control. That would maximize his trade value (if they plan on going that route)

Austin does seem like the odd man out. A 7th for him to Dallas, I'd take that.

We could be hoping to showcase him for that ... unless Hue really thinks Kessler could make it to the PS or IR

I doubt anyone will give up a 7th.

(1) He's not worth it.
(2) Teams will just wait until he's cut. They know he's #4 on the depth chart.

Unless it's a team that loses a backup and wants to secure his services

I'm of the opinion that there are plenty #3/#4 QBs out there at least equal to Davis to warrant keeping that 7th if some team needs to sign someone.

Again, just my opinion.

'Can Robert Griffin III succeed? Sure, if the Browns follow these three keys'

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/spor...-keys/#comments

By Mike Renner August 10

As of Monday, Robert Griffin III is once again a starting quarterback in the National Football League. Nevermind that Griffin hasn’t had a positive grade in Pro Football Focus’s system for a game since 2013. Nevermind that his once-Olympic-level speed has taken a hit after multiple injuries. With RGIII taking play calls from new Browns head coach Hue Jackson – one of the most creative offensive minds in the NFL – the city of Cleveland has reason to be excited.

The think pieces of what could have gone differently in Washington and in-depth examinations of RGIII’s demise have been penned for three straight years now. This isn’t one of those. Instead, this is a look at how RGIII can get back to the form he displayed while beating out Russell Wilson and Andrew Luck for rookie of the year honors in 2012, during one of the most impressive introductory seasons in league history.

It’s almost ludicrous to think that in this day and age of quarterback development, that one could hit his peak as a rookie. So I propose a three-step plan to get RGIII back to the franchise quarterback he once was.

1.Don’t be above the ‘gimmicks’
The zone-read. Triple options. Run-pass options. The wildcat. Unbalanced lines. Max protection. End-arounds. Reverses. Tunnel screens. Bubble screens. The small-minded will call them unsustainable for an NFL offense – “gimmicks.” The fact is there’s no such thing in the NFL. Every single avenue for offensive proficiency should be on the table, and if the quarterback can be used as a weapon for reasons other than his arm, then he should be.

There has been a league-wide obsession with quarterbacks being “drop-back pocket passers.” It’s one that even consumed RGIII and led him to reportedly demand widespread changes to the Redskins’ offense for 2013. Jackson is certainly not one of those consumed with the idea. He helped Andy Dalton become the quickest passer in the NFL a season ago (2.21 average time to pass attempt) through a series of one-read passes and quick run-pass options. Jackson believes in the option so much that nearly a quarter of the Bengals’ run plays (24 percent) a season ago had an option look, despite a 4.87 40-yard dash quarterback at the helm.

Back in 2012, RGIII led the NFL in play-action rate (39.9 percent of drop backs), yards per attempt off play action (11.8), and total passing yards (1,826). Those numbers dropped to 30.2 percent, 7.3, and 981 in 2013 because many of those option looks were removed. It’s clear that his legs are a trump card against opposing defenses, and they need to be featured heavily.

2. K.I.S.S. It
In character, in manner, in style, in all things, the supreme excellence is simplicity.

The above quote from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow describes perfectly the beauty of RGIII’s rookie season. After about Week 4 in 2012, every defensive coordinator knew what Washington would be running. The Redskins’ core run and pass concepts were utilized over and over again, but they played off each other in such a way that defenses were put in a bind.

One play action pass play in particular was dialed up week after week — sometimes as often as five times in a single game. In it, Griffin executes a play-action fake with option mechanics from the pistol. The offensive line and H-back feigned their blocks in the same manner as one of the option-run concepts they ran frequently. This put the linebackers in a run-pass guessing game. Griffin then resets to throw just as his eyes take him to the play-side receiver breaking on a skinny post.

It’s an extremely simple read – did the linebacker bite up or not? — yet few linebackers are disciplined enough to not fall for an option fake with RGIII’s wheels in the backfield. Every team practiced for it in the week leading up, but it didn’t matter what coverage they threw at it, no one shut it down effectively.

The Browns don’t need a playbook that reads like “War and Peace” with new route concepts drawn up every week to beat certain coverages they’ll see. Give Griffin one read, maybe two, afford him time to get to it with play-action and/or max protection, and then allow his once-elite downfield accuracy to take over.

3. Help Griffin help himself
None of the above will matter, however, if RGIII can’t learn how to protect himself and stay healthy. There are times, like in the two-minute drill, where an offense can’t employ play-action looks or max protections. There are times where Griffin will be in the open field with a defender to beat and have to decide whether to slide or try and slip a tackle.

In my four years of grading games at PFF, I’ve still never seen a quarterback as skittish as RGIII was in 2013. He hung a talented offensive line out to dry repeatedly with his penchant for slowly drifting out the back of the pocket – the most obvious sign of poor pocket presence. And when he did attempt to juke a defender in space, he looked like a deer in headlights.

It’s been three years since then, however, and if Jay Gruden and Hue Jackson haven’t been able to drill it out of him yet, there may not be hope. Already we’ve seen from Griffin a better slide than anything we saw in Washington. If he can simply do the little things to protect himself, it will go a long way toward solving RGIII’s injury woes.

I believe we could see a 2 QB team with a practice squad QB added. Davis and McCown are probably in audition mode at this point. get what we can out of them, unless they determine, Josh is just to valuable in that QB room.

Which could be the benefit of keeping Pryor ... a decent emergency QB

Taking care of the ball and making big plays down field sounds like a good thing to me.

I'm not saying it necessarily means anything when the games start counting, but it's a good sign. Definitely better than hearing about left handed flippers.

GOT MY HEART BROKE YESTERDAY ... Oooops ... Sorry about the caps ....

1st college sports is the BEST VALUE around ... At least at SC ... $25 get u season tix to both men's and women's soccer (I hate it but my 14 yer old nephew is looking forward to it ) .. $60 get u season tix to both men's and women's hoops ... WOW ... What value ...

Plus I can go to a few football games for 30 and 35 respectively ... 8 and 11 year olds will be digging that ....

BUT ... Not sure what they were thinking .. There baseball stadium is relatively new .. It seats 6,500 or so .... There is almost no tix available for any game .. Especially by the time they go on sale to the general public .. VERY BUMMED they built such a small ass stadium ... Makes no sense .. Especially seeing as how they just built a 12 - 15k seat stadium that opened this year for a long A minor league team ... Maybe, hopefully they'll play some games there ... They say its the nicest stadium in all of minor league baseball ..

Not sure how .. But I will figure out a way in .. My 11 year old nephew LOVES BASEBALL .. Really enjoys it and he's a sponge ... Gotta find a way in for him ...

If I do get some tix ... There's a nice lake 10 min from where I live .. U should come down for a weekend series ... Might be a nice enjoyable weekend with some good baseball .. When I get down there I'll go check out there fall schedule ... Hoping there's some open practices ... U have any idea? ..

I don't know diddly about Watson other than he couldn't out score Alabama .. I plan on watching a ton of him this year ... I'm guessing I'll have a chance to watch most of there games ... Really looking forward to it .. I really like /Sweeney as a coach .. Gonna try and get there for a game this year .. That would be CRACKALACKIN ... Not sure it's possible but we're gonna give it the ole college try ...

I personally don't want another RG3 ... I'll take the pocket passer/pass first QB'S all day long, the ATHELETIC guys that rely on running can't take the pounding in the NFL ... Cam is the exception cause he dishes the punishment out ... If your 6'5" 260 lbs with 4% body body fat .. Then your talking .. Will be interesting to see how he holds up this year after the 20 or so game season last year .. They way he plays .. It has to take a physical toll ...

Maybe I'll get my nephews to a Carolina game .. It's so much more appealing to go to a football game in Dec. in 55 degree weather than in 5 degree weather with 1/4 of the parking lot full of massive snow mounds from the plows ... Wonder how far from Atlanta I am .. Wait .. Carolina is pretty darn good ..

My guess is Hue is "smitten" with Watson ... Although Kessler has the skill set of the QB'S Hue has had succes with ... Watson just seems like Hue's dream skill set and the way this years draft went u have to think he's targeting someone for next year? ..

No Mr. Whip? .. Maybe Kessler was the end game .. That's showing an awful lot of cockiness .. But he did take him way before anyone "thought" he'd go .. Just cause a player is slotted at a certain spot doesn't mean that's where NFL teams have him slotted and all it takes is one other wanting your guy ..

Some info for you:

--Baseball is huge in Columbia. Most of those seats are gone because people snatched up season tix as the new stadium was being built. Their former coach, Ray Tanner--who is now the AD at USC--was a legend. Won back-to-back College World Series and was runner-up the next year. You can get tix on places like Craig's List.

--You should check out the new minor league stadium. I haven't been there, but my son has and he says it's really, really nice. They are building shops and restaurants in the complex and it's a real nice experience.

--The lake is called Lake Murray. I lived about 3 miles from the damn off of Lake Murray Blvd. in a neighborhood called Ridgemont, you can see it from Lake Murray Blvd. I used to run at the damn all the time. They have a walkway that overlooks the damn and lake and it's quite beautiful. You can rent boats nearby and it's a really nice lake. It's pretty damn big, too.

--We moved back to Columbia in May. It's called Forest Acres. Let me know how far away you are from there. Just do a quick search. I do have to say I at our house in Ohio right now.

--The football games are a big deal. Lot's of tailgating, partying going on. The stadium is in a weird area, but it's pretty nice.

--Atlanta is like 2 to 2.5 hours away from Columbia. Augusta is less than an hour. Charlotte is 1 to 1.5 hours away. Direct shot up 77N, which as Ohioans know, goes all the way up to Lake Erie in Ohio. The beach is 2 to 2.5 hours away, depending on which one you choose.

--Mountains are about an hour away. You might want to check out Asheville.

Hope that helps, bro.

Now, about RGIII. I think it's a matter of time before he gets broken in half. Man, he looks fragile.

Damien Woody on RG3

RG3 looked to be doing a better job of protecting himself than he did in Washington when the line gave him any time at all. He looked like he was recovered from his past injuries, at least when he started the game. I thought he looked pretty decisive.

There is definitely still work to do, but I did see enough from him for the decision to name him the starter to make sense. Josh is who he is. RG3 has some skills and room for growth, and is young enough to grow with the rest of the team potentially.

RG3 on his performance

I could do without the catch phrases, otherwise he seems to be saying the right things.

Yeah, I'm tired of the king's Ransom quote

I'll be living on Meadow Saffron Drive in Lexington school district one ... Were about 10 minutes away from the lake ... I know why u ran there .. It is buetiful ... I live on Lake Ontario ... Hate to dissapoint u but it's a frickin crick .. *L* .. It is buetiful .. I can see us renting out a house for a week on it pretty much every year .. Nice vacation for the boys with the water ..

The boys will be going to Carolina Springs for middle and white knoll for High school ...

U know anything about the local youth sports programs? ... Finding coaches that know what there doing especially in baseball is REALY REALLY REALL HARD ... I know all of them around here .. I know NO ONE down there ... I HATE that ... I want him to have fun and enjoy himself, not playing for some anal douche living through his kids ...

When u gonna be back down in Columbia? ..

How far away from Charlseton are we? .. Gotta go see a Charlston Charlie's baseball game .. Them and he Toledo Mud Hens ... Two all time favorite baseball team names ..

How far away is the bet beach to go body surfing at? .. ANY CLUE? ..

As for RG3 ... It's pre-season ... Not a guy who puts a ton of stock into pre-season ... If u made me critique his performance ... I would say he played like I would expect from a guy that has not taken a meaningful snap in at least one entire football season playing w/o most likely his top 2 WR's in a new system with a bunch of new guys ... Add to the above the fact I don't think he's very good anyhow and we saw pretty much what U would expect ..

If he is not broken in half by week 8, I'll be ready to have a chat about RG3 and who he is at that point .. I'm guessing it won't be a real positive chat .. *L* ...

I agree with U 100% .. He's way to small .. Doug flute was shorter but he looked way sturdier .. RG3 looks like a frickin toothpick out there ..

I wil say one thing that did scare the hell out of me .. And I don't put much stock into pre-season games . But this was a new one in his negatives at least for me ..

I'm not sure I saw him look off his #1 receiver on ANY PLAYS last night ... Not a single one ... I realize this is a quick read/get the ball out right away O so sometimes there's not going to be a progression .. But some plays ... He locked in for way way way to long on his primary receiver .. That is the one new take away from last night and it's obviously not a good one ..

But that can be corrected ... Hopefully anyhow .. That way we will go a little further down the list as to why he still STINKS!!! smile

I'm not too familiar w/Lex 1 schools. They sometimes make the papers for the wrong reasons.

A.C. Flora has a good baseball program. It's close to my house.

It's kinda weird down here in that the white kids play baseball and soccer and the black kids play football and basketball. It's way more dramatic in terms of sheer numbers than it is in northern states, such as Ohio.

Charleston is 2 hours away. You gotta visit. Make a weekend out of it if you can. Very historic city w/so many things to do. I marvel at the architecture. You would probably enjoy Fort Sumter, as well.....which is right there. If you got money, go to Kiawah Island. It's right by Charleston. Pristine beach.

Body surfing? The Atlantic Ocean doesn't have very big waves outside of a few places like the Outer Banks in NC. I would recommend beaches like the ones at Kiawah [expensive], Hilton Head, DeBordieu, Pawley's Island, Island of the Palms, Folly, Fripp Is, and Wild Dunes over a place like Myrtle Beach [it's way too commercial and seedy.] Hilton Head is expensive, but very nice. Lot's of great places to eat and see.

Back to RGIII:

Reading defenses and coverages has always been a struggle for him, especially reading coverages after the snap. I don't see that improving.

I look for Hue to go w/a lot of quick patterns where RGIII will have to make one read and then keep the defense honest by throwing 3-4 deep passes each game. RGIII does throw a beautiful deep ball.

I will be surprised if he stays healthy all year. I've seen more meat on some chicken wings than I do on his calves.

Murrel's Inlet or hit Huntington Beach State Park near Georgetown. I did some decent body surfing there back in April.

As for RG3 - I hold zero hope for him.

Zero hope for him....that's harsh.....guess you're all in on Watson...the newest RGIII....JMHO, hope is eternal, RGIII could be an improvement over McCown, who didn't have his best game...Cody's TD was sweet, his rookie errors weren't...time will tell.....biggest issue was O line....GO Browns!!!!

Ahhh........I forgot about Murrel's Inlet. Georgetown is a pretty cool area.

RGIII? I have some hope, but man his legs are skinny. LOL...
