This comes from Kings Island. The ride pictured in this photo ended up as my first actual job ten years ago. X-Flight, now known as Firehawk at Kings Island, used to run at Geauga Lake in Aurora, Ohio. Many good memories came from that summer working this ride.

15 lb. Lake Trout fished up from 115 feet down. Lake Michigan, 3.5 miles straight west of Portage lake, Onekama, Michigan. (can't see it in the pic, but my shirt said "Cleveland Browns". Fish is covering it up.)

Here's an "action" shot of my brother (in yellow) and 2 nephews - 3 fish on their way up. Captain of the boat is the guy standing there smiling. 3 fish at one time is challenging. And yes, it's real.

Our haul for the first night. Got our limit well before sunset. Me, brother, nephew, and bro in law. And, bad pic - can't see all the fish.

I finally had a chance to view your pics on the big monitor, and they are extremely sharp...all of them. I believe you got an excellent copy of that Sigma. Not to take away anything from your pitcher takin' skills. A friend of mine and I always joke when one of us gets an exceptional shot by saying, "you must have a really good camera!".

You're the one that gave me the tip to start gettin' these guys. Good glass and good friends, a must!

As far as what he is, I have no clue. I can say I got a side shot of him and he has brown wings and tail.

I had some fun at the fair this weekend gettin pics of my niece in the horse competition. The lighting was a bit harsh, but Rainee the horse knows how to pose, lol. She brought home some hardware.

Excellent shots! The second shot is beyond superb. That turn gives a motorcycle feel while the horses expression is magnificent.

First off, nice shots. Now my constructive input. If you care...Or maybe you already know about this stuff.
I'm assuming you're using a digital SLR? Have you played with manual settings? If not might I suggest start playing with your aperture settings. Your Fstops. You can change depth of field to accentuate your subject. The images you took of the girl and her horse are great but there's a fair amount of background clutter that if we're less in focus would make your subject matter really pop.

thanks. I'm well aware of the exposure triangle and the effect of aperture on depth of field. I'm using a long telephoto at rather moderate distances, and if I shoot at anything more open than f/8 or 9, parts of the horse and the flying dirt clods would not be in focus. A 70-200 f2.8 would be perfect for this.

This is an amazing photo! Looks like a J.M.W Turner painting.

That may frame the horse and rider differently by blurring the background and isolating them but it would also remove the local event, county fair feel the background provided. Personally I thought the ambience the John Deere in the background provided framed the shot with a real feel of a little slower paced time in our lives. I really liked it. Sometimes the subject is just a part of the whole.

This wasn't my first rodeo (pun intended ). That's an excellent point. To expand on what I said earlier, I think it's important to get the rider, the whole horse and the flying dirt in focus. If you look at the ground around the horse, you can see there's not a lot of room to play with using a long telephoto at those ranges even at f/8. (It's also why those lenses do so well with birds wide open, where if you focus on the eyes you get the bird in focus with a blurred background...horses are just too big). Blown up on the big monitor, the horse/rider are extremely sharp in these pics and there actually is a little blur to the background. The bigger the print, the more of this you notice. If I were to open the lens any more that it was, I'd lose sharpness on things I don't want to.

Such beautiful and clear astrophotography! I'm jealous of your dark skies. The sun stays up till about 11pm here in the village; I eagerly await October for prime astrophotography with my wide angle.

Beautiful....it was nice of him to sit on that flower and pose for you.

Sweet, love the star trails. I got up at 4:45 this morning to throw a brisket on the smoker and check out the Perseids, but we had total cloud cover. The brisket came out wonderful, though.

You can't even believe what they demand in their modeling release. Sheesh, prima donnas.
