What did Jerry Jones see in Dak Prescott that the Browns highly educated draft team did not see?
What did the amateur internet draft sites see in Prescott that the Browns highly educated front office missed? Prescott was ranked in the range of 5th-6th best QB by internet gurus while Cody Keesler was ranked around 15th best QB in the 2016 draft.

I know it's just two games in the preseason, but watching video of those two games, Keesler and Prescott are light years apart at this time.
Was it the DUI?
Did the Browns do any research into the incident? Prescott was pulled over for speeding on March 12, 2016. Prescott was truthful with the officers, admitting he had some beer earlier in the evening. Did the Browns know that Prescott took two breathalyzer tests that came back as invalid and showed no BAC?
Prescott took the case to court and was found NOT GUILTY, on July 27th.
I'm guessing the Cowboys did their homework on Dak Prescott and may have made the steal of the 2016 draft, selecting Prescott with a supplemental pick at the end of the 4trh round.
The Browns might regret not taking Prescott down the road. Prescott does everything better than Kessler. Just look at the college film and the 2 preseason games. Kessler is in the same realm as McCoy and Frye.
Prescott got many more reps than Kessler in practice with Romo recovering, is playing with the ones (for a decent bit at least) behind a great O-Line.
Kessler was playing with the bottom of the roster players behind tissue paper level of protection.
Yes, Prescott has looked good and Kessler not so much, but they aren't exactly in the same situation.

Prescott publicly expressed remorse before the draft which points to some culpability, and wasn't found Not guilty till well after the draft. We were still dealing with the Manziel mess, so Dak would have been a tough sell with his terrible timing.
Dallas seems to have benefited from that type of timing recently with La'el and Dak.

I would take what you said, and add to it. It's hard to know about some players even after the 4th preseason game. QBs almost always have a period of adjustment, where the league catches up tot hem, and they have to adjust to those adjustments. That is when you know if you have a QB or not .... not if they have initial succecss ... especially in the 1st 2 preseason games.

Lenz was making plays vs CBs no longer in the league. That's a huge difference from a rookie QB facing 1st team defenses. 2 games in Prescott is playing at a high level. He's gonna struggle that's the nature of any rookie coming Into the league. But the fact of the matter he's making decisions and executions a established 5 yr qb would be making.

I was simply throwing in Ogbah because an above poster mentioned something about teams that passed on Dak in earlier rounds.

Kessler will end up on the practice squad and I doubt anyone is going to make effort to claim him. I agree with the general sentiment, the other qbs have looked alot better. Pascot especially.
It wasn't necessarily the selection of Kessler (although I really did not like him as a player) ... it was mostly where he was selected.

Jerry Jones is not a Harvard educated GM like Sashi Brown and Jones was not surrounded with other Havard educated members in his draft room, like Sashi Brown was.
As I have already pointed out, had the Browns checked out Prescott's dui situation they would have found that it was very likely that Prescott was not legally drunk but did admit to drinking beer hours before he was stopped for "speeding", thus the breathalyzer test. He was not stopped on suspicion of driving drunk.
I believe many teams, including the Browns, failed to investigate the facts of Prescott's dui charge and had already made up their mind that Prescott was guilty of drunk driving.
The truth is, Prescott blew into the breathalyzer twice and did not register a number. Prescott chose to fight the charges in court opting for a jury trial and was found not guilty, based on the facts of the case. That trial did not take place until July, so any team willing to look at the facts of his case would have known there was a chance he would be found "not guilty"..but they would have to be willing to draft Prescott and wait for him clear himself of the dui charge in court, in July.
Something else about Prescott..did he have a history of drinking and a record of problems associated with drinking? (like Manziel had)
Had the Browns checked, they would have found that Prescott did not have a history of alcohol related problems. Even if Prescott was found guilty (at trial)of the dui charge, a check of Prescott's history would have shown that it was an anomaly and no way indicative of the man's character.
Either the Browns failed to do their homework on Prescott and/or had already found Prescott guilty of the dui charge.

I noticed Prescott when reviewing video of all the top prospects at a time when many thought the #1 draft priority for the Browns was a QB.
Even with RG3 signing with the Browns, no one knew if he would be the Browns answer at QB..and we still don't know if he is the answer.
Word was the Browns were still interested in drafting a QB and on April 26, two days before the 2016 NFL draft began, Terry Pluto wrote this about the QB subject...

At least two of local writers thought that Dak Prescott would be a good selection and this was before anyone knew he would be found not guilty of the DUI charge.
I just don't understand how the Browns continue to make major screwups, even when the owner spends big bucks on what many thought were the smartest front office talent evaluators in the NFL.
After reading the articles from Grossi and Pluto before the draft, it was obvious that the front office would have some local support for the pick of Dak Prescott.
I'm not buying this stuff that Hue thought Keesler was a better QB prospect than Dak Prescott and that is why the Browns passed over Prescott.
Someone failed to do their homework, looking into the type of man Prescott was and understanding that he was nothing like the drunk, Johnny Football...and he was there for the Browns taking.

We have RG3 and a distinct possibility that Hue can fix him. That is good. We got Kessler, who in time might be good but he hasn't had a chance to prove himself or get up to game speed. The Browns were still dealing with Manziel, and his issues. Maybe that red flagged Prescot? Like "Oh boy, he's a good qb, but do we want to, can we afford to, make another mistake?"
After all, Dak wasn't found not guilty until well after the draft, right?
Maybe the Browns erred on the side of caution as a result of Johnny boy? Possible.
