That can't be Kathleen Turner.

Nevermind - I just noticed it says Lauren Bacall. Please don't put up a recent pic of Kathleen Turner; I'd like to remember her from her 80's movies.

Most of us come into this world with no hair and no teeth and we pretty much check out the same way.

As natural as a sunrise, why do you find it weird?

Look up Gary Richrath. In 1978 as the lead guitarist of REO Speedwagon he could have any girl in the crowd he wanted to meet him back stage.
Before his death last year he looked like he could have played the role of an overweight ogre and not need makeup.
I'm sure that many of the late 70's groupies probably couldn't scrub them selves in a shower long enough, in hot enough water, if they saw a photo from 2015, to make themselves feel okay today.
Yikes. He did not age well.

Getting Old and not taking care of your appearance are separate issues.

Getting old is what we all do naturally if we survive long enough. It really isn't Getting Old, it is more of a matter of Earning Old.

I have known far too many people who never got the chance to earn Old.

Certainly. Though long jevity can also be a cruel game. In hospice we say, "You don't beat the grim reaper by living long. You beat him by living well."

I just turned 29. I feel old.

Then you have Jennifer Aniston, who's still as sexy as she was years and years ago.

I think she'll always be my "crush" lol.

I think there’s two parts to the “weird” part of becoming elderly.

1. In retrospect it happens very, very quickly. (as you’re looking back on your life)
2. Virtually every elderly person feels like they’re younger self is still inside.

Time is a very strange dimension. What we perceive as “a long time” could easily be perceived as the wink of an eye to some sort of long-lived alien.

To us, a fruit fly only lives a few days. But to the fruit fly… Wait, I can’t speak for fruit flies.

Maybe fruit flies think: “A seven day lifespan?” “That sucks!”

Honestly, I haven’t touched the oxycodone.

Toto?...Toto…?.

Which is why I think the ideal for most people is to be active and then one day at some ripe old age just drop over... rather than have a long protracted debilitating condition...

It feels odd, indeed. I turned 26 last January, and I think of everyone else my age. Most are in some sort of a relationship, married, having kids, etc.

Me? I'm way out in the boondocks. I get to travel at my leisure in the summer, teach some great kids 9 months out of the year, and not tied down to anyone. Sometimes I wonder if I have it the "wrong way", but I'm happy doing what I do.

Agreed.

Hey, that reminds me Jay Fishman died a few days ago.

Fishman was the CEO of Traveler's Insurance. He was only 63 years old and on top of the world.

He was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) about two years ago and resigned just recently.

I would bet anything that he had a very hush hush "Doctor Assisted" suicide.

He spoke during the PGA Traveler's Championship like 3 weeks ago.

I'll bet anything, he and his closest confidantes planned his death.

ALS is 100% fatal and every day becomes worse.

Fishman was a very driven, ambitious man. I don't think he'd let ALS have the last word.

I'll bet anything.

It would be easier than those people jumping out of the Twin Towers.

Getting old is one instance that being black has an enviable advantage. Now I'm not saying all black people age gracefully and slow, but as a whole they do it much better than white people.

I went from being a young attractive guy to getting dad bod then to starting to fall apart... next thing I know I'll be a prune and then pushing daisies.

But the only weird thing is that I still feel like that young attractive kid inside.

When I get old I fully intend to dress like an old black man, gray hair, top hat and cane, burgundy suit, black/white wing tips.. yep, I'm going all in.

Life is 100% fatal, too.
In fact, it is the #1 cause of Death.

I once read about a tombstone with the following inscription:

As you are now, so was I once.
As I am now, so shall you be.

The message? Its the human condition; get over it. Stop obsessing about it. Go get a bacon cheeseburger and a beer. Everything's fine, until it isn't.

To be serious....aging is a part of the process. With luck we all get there.

The hard part is until we lose our mind, we don't think any differently. We evolve, but from a thinking state, we probably don't change much once we are mid 30's to 40ish....we are grown up at that point.

To me it is like a football game with 20 year quarters. The first quarter is growing up and getting prepared. The 2nd qtr is finding your station in life. The 3rd qtr is grinding it out....from experience, that is the hard one. You are getting older but expected to play like a youndster. The 4th qtr is waiting for the call. Hopefully you get a little time and have a little money to enjoy a few things you may have had to skip earlier in life.
