So if Prescott has a couple of bad games are you going to change your opinion?

Former Redskin Tony Banks On RGIII's Debut: "Preseason Is Nothing Like Real Thing"

Let's see him do it in a real game before we start lamenting too much. Dak has looked good, but they don't count yet. He hasn't had to deal with a whole lot of pressure yet, both in the being behind an established starter as a 4th rounder sense and in the great blocking in front of him sense. He's in a good spot to look good.

Yet, people are giddy about our WRs, RGIII, and Nassib. Haven't they only played two preseason games?

...I will continue to second guess the major mistakes the Browns make. I'm not the only one talking about Dak Prescott...his play in his first two preseason games is a major topic of discussion in the NFL.

BTW, you seem to forget, Dak Prescott DOES NOT HAVE A DUI ON HIS RECORD...his record is clean.

Perhaps you are forgetting some things as well?

The Browns were still dealing with Manziel, and his issues. Maybe that red flagged Prescot? Like "Oh boy, he's a good qb, but do we want to, can we afford to, make another mistake?"

After all, Dak wasn't found not guilty until well after the draft, right?

Maybe the Browns erred on the side of caution as a result of Johnny boy? Possible.

Also, where was Dak drafted? How many teams passed on him how many times?

Manziel was expected to cut and was just before Dak Prescott was pulled over. I have no doubt that the Browns considered Prescott's dui charge...but, if the Browns draft team had done their homework to find out the facts of Prescott's situation, they would have found that it was very likely that he was not guilty of the charges.

If you would have bothered to read the thread, you would have read that the local media (Pluto, Grossi)clearly thought the Dak Prescott situation was nothing like Manziel's and called Prescott's dui an anomally. It's pretty clear that Pluto and Grossi would not hold it against the Browns if they drafted Prescott.

Prescott had never had an issue dealing with alcohol until that night..no previous record like Manziel who had issues going back to high school.

The two cases were light years apart.

The fact that other teams past on Prescott is meaningless...it means they screwed up just like the Browns did. For some reason, that doesn't make me feel any better.

There were teams that showed the most interest in Prescott at the combine...the Dallas Cowboys, Carolina Panthers, Pittsburgh Steelers, Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks.
Can't help but notice that all of the teams showing interest in Prescott are considered the among the best/winningest franchises in the NFL.

There was information about the case avaiable to the Browns, had done some research. I will post it below...

The facts of Prescott's arrest started making the papers within days. Information that the Browns front office should have known.

Prescott’s breathalyzer tests inconclusive after DUI arrest

POSTED 3:44 PM, MARCH 15, 2016
BY ERYN TAYLOR AND AP
link

STARKVILLE, Miss. — Former Mississippi State quarterback and NFL draft prospect Dak Prescott took two inconclusive breathalyzer tests following a traffic stop for speeding on Saturday night.

Prescott was arrested and charged with speeding and driving under the influence in Starkville.

His first court appearance is scheduled for April 11.

Police records state that Prescott was pulled over at 12:31 a.m. and took two breathalyzer tests at 1:13 a.m. and 1:47 a.m.

The first result was an “invalid sample” and the second was an “insufficient sample.”

He was released on bond “in good condition and without incident.”

The 6-foot-2, 226-pound Prescott is arguably the best player in Mississippi State history, rewriting the school’s passing records and helping the program win a combined 19 games in his junior and senior seasons.

You're totally missing my point.

The Browns were dealing with manziels issues. You think they're going to draft another qb that might have issues?

Hell, instead of blaming the Browns - blame Johnny. And then ask yourself why 32 teams passed on Dak for over 3 rounds. Can you do that?

There is a difference between not being guilty and being found not guilty. These don't sound like the words of an completely innocent person:

— Said Prescott after his DUI arrest Saturday: “[I] take complete responsibility for my actions. I’m very remorseful for my misjudgment. I want to apologize to my true supporters, my family, Mississippi State University, the NFL, and the kids who look up to me. I won’t ask for forgiveness; however, I’ll show the true man I am and exhibit my character through my actions and behavior moving forward.

link

Having said that, it seems like an isolated incident. However, the timing of it still reflected poorly. During the lead up to the draft, a player should know he is under the microscope.

High character, no problem people seemed to be a focus for the front office.

We'll see what happens down the road.

This story appeared a week before Prescott went on trial and it provides more detailed information that was available long before the draft.

The point I'm making is there was ample evidence available to the Browns that there was a good chance that Dak Prescott might be found not guilty. Even if he was found guilty, a check of Prescott's history showed that he was not another Johnny Football drunk.

It will be a shame if we find out that this front office did not bother to look into the details of Prescott's case.

Prescott to face trial for DUI

July 21, 2016 11:03:26 AM
link

Former Mississippi State University quarterback Dak Prescott will go to trial next week for a driving under the influence charge after Starkville Municipal Court Judge Rodney Faver denied a motion to dismiss the case on Wednesday.

Prescott, who was absent from Wednesday's proceedings because of a flight delay, was charged with speeding in March after he was pulled over for driving 41 mph in a 25 mph zone on University Drive.

He was also charged with DUI first -- a misdemeanor -- after admitting to drinking at least one beer that night, but court documents show two Intoxilyzer 8000 tests performed at Starkville Police Department failed to measure his breath alcohol level.

The first test resulted in an invalid sample, and the second test produced an "insufficient sample," according to the documents.

A uniform traffic ticket issued to Prescott was marked with an abbreviation for "refusal" where alcohol testing results would normally be written.

It is unknown if the Intoxilyzer 8000 malfunctioned during testing, if Prescott did not fully comply with instructions or if he definitively refused further testing.

Prescott's attorney, Jay Perry, argued Prescott should have never been stopped for speeding, as Officer Donte' Thomas was not certified to run radar at the time.

Thomas testified he only received certification to utilize the equipment after the traffic stop -- his qualification occurred so recently that he has yet to receive a physical certificate -- and that he tested and calibrated his radar equipment before beginning patrol that night but not after the stop.

Since the traffic stop was improper, Perry argued, the DUI charge should have never occurred.

Prosecutor Caroline Moore, however, argued Thomas, in good faith, believed Prescott was speeding, and the totality of the circumstances surrounding the incident should allow the prosecution to proceed with the trial.

Thomas, a 24-year-old officer with about a year of experience with SPD, testified entered the Cotton District for patrol "about closing time of the bars" on March 12 and observed Prescott, at about 12:30 a.m., driving too fast toward him on University Drive.

Thomas also testified he could not determine if Prescott was drunk at the time of the traffic stop. Prescott, he said, did not slur his words, have bloodshot eyes or display issues with his motor skills. No alcohol was found in the football player's Escalade, he testified, and neither Prescott nor his vehicle smelled of booze at the time of the stop.

Thomas, however, testified that, by his logic, Prescott was under the influence since he had admitted to consuming alcohol.

"Can you cite the code where having one beer is illegal?" Perry asked Thomas in his examination. "If I were at dinner and had one sip of wine -- literally one sip -- am I under the influence?"

"Yes, you have consumed alcohol," Thomas replied in his testimony.

Prescott's passenger, Thomas testified, was wearing a wrist band and holding a plastic cup during the stop, both of which appeared to come from a bar. Prescott, Thomas testified, said he was leaving the Cotton District after picking up his friend.

It is not known if or how Prescott's DUI charge affected his stock in this year's NFL draft. The former Bulldog was chosen as the 135th overall pick in April's draft. He was the eighth quarterback taken.

Prescott broke 38 school records while at MSU and passed for 9,376 yards and 70 touchdowns. He rushed for 2,521 yards and 41 touchdowns.

Following his arrest, Prescott released a statement in which he took "complete responsibility for (his) actions."

"I'm very remorseful for my misjudgment. I want to apologize to my true supporters, my family, Mississippi State University, the NFL and the kids who look up to me," his March statement read. "I won't ask for forgiveness; however, I'll show the true man I am and exhibit my character through my actions and behavior moving forward."

Municipal court is scheduled to begin 2 p.m. Wednesday. Trials are typically held later in session toward the end of the call docket.

He was stopped in March. The draft was in April - at the end of April. Everything you're posting is from July.

Drop it.

Dang - harping on the Browns is easy enough - don't get on them for dropping the guy. At least 32 teams dropped on him, for over 3 rounds.

He had the athleticism and range to be a great receiving TE ... but he never developed once he left

arch...and you would be wrong again!

Posted an article titled.."Prescott’s breathalyzer tests inconclusive after DUI arrest"

which was dated MARCH 15, 2016 and the video news report was on the same date, 3/15/16.

The information contained in the July 15th story was available to anyone who wanted to contact Prescott's lawyer.

It's pretty clear that the Browns Harvard educated (lawyer) GM and his staff misjudged Prescott in the worst way, failing to do their homework on Prescott then taking Cody Keesler for reasons that can not be explained, in the 3rd round.

Just as the Browns front office screwed up taking Manziel over Bridgewater in 2014 draft...things have not changed a bit when it comes to judging QB talent with the front office addition of the Harvard Moneyballers..some things never change in Cleveland.

From the article you posted, mac, it implies that he didn't do the breathalyzer properly. Have you ever taken one? They are pretty sensitive. To get an insufficient amount, you have to really be trying hard to fake it. Combined with other information, like his apology, and the mention of the arresting officer not being officially qualified with his radar gun, it sounds like he got off on a technicality. Maybe the Browns did more research than you think.

The only way this happens is if Gilber, Mingo, Shelton, and Coleman realize how bad they are and offer themselves up to become the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse and the only way we can stop them is if we build a time machine to draft Dak Prescott in the first instead of Coleman.

The following is why I've often referred to you as a badger:

Their [Badgers] lower jaws are articulated to the upper by means of transverse condyles firmly locked into long cavities of the skull, so dislocation of the jaw is all but impossible. This enables the badgers to maintain their hold with the utmost tenacity, but limits jaw movement to hinging open and shut, or sliding from side to side without the twisting movement possible for the jaws of most mammals.

Wiki/Badger

Once you get on a subject you hold onto it with the tenacity of a badger and won't let go for love nor money.

dub...I detest that characterization...a "badger", good lord!

The badger is just way too close to the animal that is the mascot of "that team up north" (Michigan) and in no way resembles me. The badger and Michigan mascot come from the mustelidae family that includes skunks, polecats, weasels and other low life animal species. It's such a poor example or characterization of who and what I am, I have no choice but to straighten you out.

If you must attempt to define me, the following would be the best example of who I am and what I'm all about...
...That is a "BULLDOG", often referred to as English Bulldog. The breed was developed to work and herd bulls but due to the courage and physical characteristics, the Bulldog became the breed of choice to used for the blood sport of Bull-Baiting (fighting bulls) and Bear-Baiting

Bulldogs are built low to the ground with a strong well muscled head, shoulders and jaws that would grab a bull by the nose or under the neck and refused to let go. A good dog would grab the nose of the bull with the jaws locking and eventually killing the bull by suffocation.

Blood sports were outlawed in England in 1835 but today the Bulldog continues to maintain the instincts, courage and physical characteristics that were bred into the breed for the use of Bull and Bear-Baiting hundreds of years ago.

A couple of examples below...

...The Bulldog is afraid of "nothing" and still have the physical tools to challenge anything that walks or slithers. Today the Bulldog is known for it's kind and laid back disposition. The aggressiveness needed for fighting bulls has been bred out of the breed, making it one of the most popular pet breeds.

The wife and I bred Bulldogs for over 30 years, developing our own line of show Bulldogs and retiring a few years ago

DUB...if you must label me, the Bulldog would be the most accurate example of who I am. thumbsup

Just as the Browns front office screwed up taking Manziel over Bridgewater in 2014 draft...things have not changed a bit when it comes to judging QB talent with the front office addition of the Harvard Moneyballers..some things never change in Cleveland.

I understand your frustration because it seems to happen to the Browns a lot... but to say that this one example is proof that things haven't changed is a bit of a reach.

The New England Patriots picked QB, Jacoby Brissett out of NC State ahead of Kessler and Prescott... The #1 and #2 picks in the draft were on QBs and Prescott has outplayed both of them so far in camp..

So are you prepared to say that Bill Belichick didn't do his homework?

So to say the Browns may have missed on Prescott is fair but acting like it was a no-brainer to take him is something many other teams seemed to have missed, including the Patriots.. so throwing around the Harvard lawyers and Moneyballers is kind of cute, it seems unnecessary...

And, I will add, it's the preseason, Prescott has played in 2 preseason games and has thrown 27 passes... if he was with the Browns, people would be screaming about not anointing him as anything until he actually proves something... which he hasn't.

DC...I do believe I was referring to the Browns ability to judge QB talent and even referred to Manziel as an example of the Browns judgement.

Passing on Prescott and selecting Keesler will be one of the worst mistakes the Browns have made when it comes to attempting to draft a franchise QB.

Indicating Dak is a franchise Qb over play, even though really good play, in preseason games?

I'd rather have Dak, Cardale or almost any of the other qbs over Kessler, never approved of the pick, but insinuating Dak is already a franchise level Qb is also something I couldn't approve of.

Romo will get injured and he'll be asked to play in regular season when coaches are scheming and etc, from there we should open our "evaluation" eyes.

Preseason is not the environment for such. Weeden looked stellar in preseason, did he not?

LB..you should realize I'm speaking about "potential" based on past (college) and present (preseason) play.

I see Prescott's circumstances similar to the Russell Wilson situation except Prescott has tougher competition for the starting job.

IMO, it's just a matter of time before Prescott becomes the Cowboys starter.

Just as NFL teams looked at Russell Wilson's height and determined he was not suited to start in the NFL, many NFL teams classified Prescott's dui as a disqualification to even consider drafting him. Stereo typing, rather than taking the time and expending the energy to dig for information and facts makes a difference.

That is why some teams are a threat to make the playoffs on a regular basis and other teams remain bottom feeders.

I do not now, nor will I ever, consider taking a QB in the 3rd or 4th round "attempting to draft a franchise QB".

We missed on Quinn, Weeden, Manziel.. I get all that.. I would not include Colt McCoy or (in the future) Kessler on that list.

But my more important point is, I don't think it's right to use this one example as a reason why this new FO is no different than the old ones.. and as I understand it, Kessler was as much a Hue Jackson pick as anything. He seemed to rave about him after the draft. Which I doubt he would have done if he didn't have significant input into the selection.

Ahh, my apologies for the confusion. I hadn't been paying too much attention to the prior posts and thought it was a statement based just on two preseason nfl games.

DC...based on the Browns record for drafting of QBs, they continue to make poor choices, imo. You want to pin it on Hue, fine...but do you honestly believe others in the draft room remained silent, not giving opinions or recommendations?

Had the Browns bothered to pick of the telephone and call Prescott's lawyer, they could have learned the details of the entire situation and given a better educated recommendation on Prescott.

Prescott was ranked as the 5th or 6th best QB on most online QB rankings...Keesler was ranked around 15th. Do you really believe Hue and the rest in Browns draft room felt Keesler was a better QB than Prescott?

If amateur internet draft sites can see a 10 slot difference between Prescott and Keesler, don't you believe Hue could too? I believe Hue knows enough about QBs to recognize the difference in talent between those two QBs. Do you really believe that the dui was not a factor in the Browns decision?

Whose job is it to dig into the background of potential draft picks? When it comes to drafting a QB..a possible franchise QB, wouldn't others in the draft room research the potential draft picks?

If you were a GM with a Harvard lawyer degree, would you make a call to the lawyer of a potential draft pick to find out as much as you could about a dui charge?

It would not surprise me one bit if the Browns Harvard educated lawyer/GM failed to call Prescott's lawyer.

I also doubt that Sashi did not have an opinion on Dak Prescott and I'm pretty sure he would share his opinion with Hue.

I believe the Browns stereotyped Prescott based on the dui and failed to do the work necessary find out the facts of Prescott's case.

Hue is part of the draft team but there are others who should be doing all they can help the franchise make the best draft picks possible.

Can't help but notice that all of the teams showing interest in Prescott are considered the among the best/winningest franchises in the NFL.

According to NFL.com’s Path to the Draft, there were three teams in particular that really paid close attention to Prescott. Those teams were the Cleveland Browns, Carolina Panthers and Pittsburgh Steelers.

The article states that the Browns really put Prescott through a mental examination...

Most teams also have their own security department, consisting of former police officers and detectives, who do full background checks on every player on a team’s draft board.

The security personnel also often attend the college all-star games, such as the Senior Bowl, to interview athletes one on one.

milk...Mississippi State's Pro Day was March 10th, before his DUI arrest. The Browns interest before the DUI that included a battery of psychological tests took place the day before Pro Day.

Below is an interesting article showing how differently teams approach and judge draft prospects, QBs in this case.

Prescott gets quality time with Browns, Panthers, Steelers

Dak Prescott threw passes for 30 NFL clubs Thursday at Mississippi State's pro day event, but three of them showed the former Bulldogs star a little more attention than others: the Cleveland Browns, Pittsburgh Steelers and Carolina Panthers.

First, it was the Browns with a battery of psychological tests on Wednesday, the day before pro day, that assessed Prescott's capacity and methods of learning. Five tests, timed at seven minutes each, with no such thing as a wrong answer. The Browns took the results back to Cleveland without grading immediately.

"I had to place some drawn pictures, kind of like comics, in an order so they tell a story without any words," Prescott said. "That was one test, another was asking what was missing from a picture, there were some pattern correlations with numbers, that kind of stuff."

All that testing built up an appetite, which is where the Steelers came in.

Steelers quarterback coach Randy Fichtner texted Prescott to arrange dinner Wednesday night, and Prescott picked Harvey's, one of the top eateries in Starkville, Miss. Nothing too heavy with a pending workout: a balsamic chicken pasta dish. The dinner topic? Football, of course, and a member of the Steelers' scouting staff came along.

On Thursday, Prescott stood on all his combine testing and opted to go through passing drills only. He weighed in at 227 pounds, within a pound of his Senior Bowl and combine weigh-ins. After a 70-throw script off three- and five-step drops, Fichtner and Panthers quarterbacks coach Ken Dorsey asked Prescott to throw out routes off a seven-step drop, for which he was glad to oblige.

Then it was time to meet one-on-one with Dorsey.

"I did some board work and he showed me some plays, then we watched some of my film together," Prescott said. "Then after we watched him, he wanted me to explain back the plays he had shown me earlier. He wanted to see how much I could repeat back, and I thought I did pretty well with it."

If the Browns, Steelers or Panthers plan to bring Prescott in for a visit or follow up with a private workout, they haven't yet informed him.

Prescott's schedule remains the same: the Arizona Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys with private workouts later this month, and facility visits to the Cardinals, Philadelphia Eagles and Buffalo Bills in April.

So the Browns put a lot emphasis on their psychological tests..drawing comics and finding what was missing in pictures.

I'm guessing that Cody Keesler aced the picture drawing and comics stuff and that is why the Browns Harvard educated draft team passed over the 5th ranked QB and took the 15 ranked QB in the 2016 draft.

I wonder if there were any comics showing the boundaries and size of an end zone?
