Not pulling over for lights and sirens should not translate into a Police officer or State Trooper shooting anyone dead.
Obviously, the impaired man wanted to get home or very close to his home before pulling over. Maybe to seek family assistance because of his handicap..being deaf and with speech issues.
I now can understand why the impaired man did not pull over.
If the individual did not show a weapon and threaten the officer with it, he should not have been shot. If the individual did not try to choke the officer or try to kill him with his bare hands, he should not have been shot.
Today, many of our police and law enforcement officers are not properly trained and take it upon themselves to act with lethal force when it is not called for, imo.
The use of lethal force should be a last resort, used only when all other options have been exhausted and the officers life is in immediate danger...jmho It should, but in light of all that has transpired over the last year, it's easy to understand how a cop is going to take the attitude that he is going to be the one going home tonight. For hearing impaired drivers....how about a tag designation? That would be pretty simple. I mean we have tags for all sorts of college footall teams, save the seacows, etc.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn. GM Strong

Maybe it would have been better stated that traffic violations led to a shooting that killed a deaf person? Because from where I sit, that's the gist of it. I think that is a much better way to phrase it. Not really. At his time, it appears that traffic laws were the only ones that were broken. Have you seen any other laws that were broken in this case? If you get pulled over, there is nothing inherently illegal with jumping out of the car and waving your arms around frantically.. (not that that is what this guy did).. but you can appear very threatening without actually breaking any other laws.

How can a person who can't hear and get out of the way of firetrucks and ambulances be allowed to drive a 2000 pound sledge hammer? To me that seems extremely dangerous. I don't even live in a big city and at least once or twice a month I have to get out of the way for emergency vehicles.
I guess IF it's legal then I would think their license plate would be required to show that the driver is deaf. I don't think they test your hearing for a driver's license though so how would they even know if the guy can read lips well enough.
There is also no way this driver didn't see the flashing lights. If he is that blind or zoned out then he really shouldn't have been allowed to drive. I wonder if they will do a tox screen to see if he was high or something.(Not accusing, just wondering)
I usually prefer to give cops the benefit of the doubt so would like to know if it was high speed or low speed chase. Just how crazy did the driver look? I am sure the cop had a camera in his car so I hope it's got footage of that. A man just waving his arms around after just a traffic violation seems to be shaky ground for the cop to open fire. I think the cop will be in a lot of trouble on this one but who knows how crazy the driver was acting ...

Q:Are deaf people allowed to drive? A: Deaf people can drive, but they may need to install a few adaptive modifications in their vehicles to be able to drive safely. Many deaf drivers utilize special devices to alert them when fire trucks or ambulances are near them. The special devices used to alert drivers about nearby emergency vehicles are programmed to shine different light patterns for different emergency vehicles. Some deaf drivers also utilize special panoramic mirrors so they can see everything that is around and behind their vehicles. These mirrors allow deaf drivers to have a larger field of vision and to be aware while they are driving. https://www.reference.com/government-politics/deaf-people-allowed-drive-495779ddfc44037f#

Was it required in his specific state? IF so then seems he has no excuse.
