I think we will score points but we have some of the worst tackling LBs in the league and a very iffy secondary. I think our avg points per game will be 17-21 will be a very good improvement IMHO but our defense will give up at least 24 points a game. I think we beat baltimore once and pitts once. Cinci knows our offense too well and their defense will crush it.

I think we will have a team with good effort but will have sloppy technique due to its youth. Also, due to youth they will play subject to the sways of emotion and play much better at home then on the road. It will also looks sloppy out there at times.

HOWEVER, if our starters stay healthy then I could quickly change my mind and see us going 8-8 or 9-7. Still we always end up so banged up that I doubt that happens.

Cleveland Browns will improve, though not dramatically, in win column

In a May practice while I was standing on the sideline, Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam sidled over, reached out to shake hands and said, "This is the guy who thinks we're going to win one game this year."

His greeting was good natured, and fun, and correct.

In April, before the draft, I thought the Browns had giant issues and predicted a 1-15 record. Fan reaction was predictable (ease up; it was assigned and I gave an honest answer).

After watching the Browns practice and seeing Hue Jackson work, I now believe that one-win projection was low. But not that low. The Browns are building a team through the draft and with patience. They have added good players. But it will take another draft or two for the team to be competitive. The upside: If they draft in 2017 and 2018 like they did in '16, the improvement should show soon.

Week 1: Sunday, Sept. 11, at Philadelphia Eagles, 1 p.m. ET

This game is winnable. It's not as if the Eagles enter the season a powerhouse. And they start a rookie quarterback in Carson Wentz. But the Browns will be without receiver Josh Gordon and they showed so little in preseason. They will not be able to overcome so many new offensive pieces for a road opener against a Jim Schwartz-coached defense. Record: 0-1.

Week 2: Sunday, Sept. 18, Baltimore Ravens, 1 p.m. ET

The Browns always play the Ravens tough, only to lose. But in this game, they should be buoyed by a home opener and a new coach against a Ravens team that is not as strong as Ravens teams of old. Mark this the first win of the Hue Jackson era. Record: 1-1.

Week 3: Sunday, Sept. 25, at Miami Dolphins, 1 p.m. ET

This is not the 1972 Dolphins, nor is it the 1964 Browns. Ryan Tannehill is growing up, and the Dolphins get to play at home in the middle of the day in the South Florida heat. Miami wins a close one. Record: 1-2.

Week 4: Sunday, Oct. 2, at Washington Redskins, 1 p.m. ET

It will be tough to find a more hyped game than Robert Griffin III's return to Washington. The Redskins will spoil this return, though, because the quarterback who Washington chose over Griffin will play better. Record: 1-3.

Week 5: Sunday, Oct. 9, New England Patriots, 1 p.m. ET

Yes, this will be the game in which Gordon returns from suspension. But it's also the game in which Tom Brady returns. It seems that Brady will be especially motivated on this particular Sunday. Record: 1-4.

Week 6: Sunday, Oct. 16, at Tennessee Titans, 1 p.m. ET

A team led by Johnny Manziel beat Tennessee in Cleveland in 2015. Tennessee returns the favor this season, winning in Nashville. Record: 1-5.

Week 7: Sunday, Oct. 23, at Cincinnati Bengals, 1 p.m. ET

Jackson will want to return to Cincinnati and win, but he can't. The Bengals simply have too much talent on both sides of the ball. Cincinnati's offense will take serious advantage of a Browns defense filled with question marks. At this point, the Browns will have played five of seven games on the road. Record: 1-6.

Week 8: Sunday, Oct. 30, New York Jets, 1 p.m. ET

The Jets aren't as good as they were last season. Gordon rises to the challenge of facing Revis Island and produces enough to carry the Browns to a win. Record: 2-6.

Week 9: Sunday, Nov. 6, Dallas Cowboys, 1 p.m. ET

Even with Tony Romo out, Dallas has way too much firepower on offense for the Browns. The Cowboys' overall talent is simply better than Cleveland's. Record: 2-7.

Week 10: Thursday, Nov. 10, at Baltimore Ravens, 8:25 p.m. ET

The Browns can beat the Ravens once; they can't beat them twice. By this point in the season, Joe Flacco should be back to his old self, and the Ravens will be too tough at home. Record: 2-8.

Week 11: Sunday, Nov. 20, Pittsburgh Steelers, 1 p.m. ET

The talent level here is like comparing the Empire State Building to a tiny house. Ben Roethlisberger, Antonio Brown and Le'Veon Bell are way too much to handle. Record: 2-9.

Week 12: Sunday, Nov. 27, New York Giants, 1 p.m.

In April, the Giants didn't impress me. I thought this would be the Browns' only win. In August, the Giants still aren't that impressive -- except they have Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr. facing a Browns defense that at this point could be worn out. The Giants win. Record: 2-10.

Week 13: Bye week.

Week 14: Sunday, Dec. 11, Cincinnati Bengals, 1 p.m. ET

Jackson would love to win this one, but it's December and the Bengals will be in a playoff chase. That, plus an overall better team, means the Bengals sweep the series -- but the game will be close. Record: 2-11.

Week 15: Sunday, Dec. 18, at Buffalo Bills, 1 p.m. ET

The Bills at this point of the season will be out of it. The Browns will be starting to see some growth from young players. They win this one on the road. Record: 3-11.

Week 16: Saturday, Dec. 24, San Diego Chargers, 1 p.m. ET

A Christmas Eve game for a warm-weather team in Cleveland? The Chargers must be wondering what they did to make the schedule computer go haywire. The Browns get their first winning streak of the season with this win. Record: 4-11.

Week 17: Sunday, Jan. 1, at Pittsburgh Steelers, 1 p.m. ET

It would be nice to think the Steelers will relax in this game because they have already clinched a playoff spot. Doesn't matter, though. Pittsburgh makes a habit of tormenting the Browns, especially in season finales -- whether the Steelers have clinched a playoff spot or not. Record: 4-12.

Ahh, so in that bye week, RG3 will throw for 300 yds, 2 TDs, 1 int, and 1 rushing TD?

The state of the Browns: Someone who predicts a 4-12 season is an optimist.

How does a league celebrating its 100th season only recognize the 53 most recent championships?
